Yeah my XIV free period ends soon and I'm thinking of leaving it. Trying to level with friends who are joining the game is a pain because the required story keeps us apart, and the current end game is really derivative.

Trying out the Etrian Odyssey IV and Untold Story demos. I like the gameplay, I just got to get used to the mapping. I might get Etrian Odyssey IV while it's still on sale for $20 at Gamestop.

Looked up how much more I had left to go in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, and upon finding out (it was a long time yet), said fuck it, I'm not going to play this tediousness anymore. On the plus side, I got Rune Factory 4 yesterday, so if I absolutely need to Harvest Moon it up, that should be a much better way to go about it.

Still playing Pokemon Black 2, tho'; currently up to four gym badges. Definitely don't plan to get X or Y right away.

I rec'd EO: Untold. Haven't had a chance to play it fully yet, but at least the save from the demo carries over.
I love the demo and want to play more but I'm waiting on a sale. I just got EO IV and Soul Hackers so I will play one of those during the weekend.

It's funny how much the backbone plot of Mass Effect 3 mirrors that of Dragon Age. There's an unstoppable evil that can only be combated if all the warring races join forces. They'll only work together if you do tasks for each race that require you to make Difficult Moral Choices.

But I am a motorcycle.

Swag-ass Wasteland 2 stuff.

Also Kickstarter related, this basically looks like it was made specifically for me, but there is no way in hell they can do it proper-like for $500,000.

I saw that one, it looked pretty interesting, but like you said no way they can make a AAA game of that scale with that budget.

I dig RPGs so I'll post what RPGs I've beaten in the last year. I ran through P4G around May and I loved it; it's the perfect version of Persona 4 and everyone with a Vita should get it. I also completed Nier in August and managed to get all four endings for it and that game deserves all of the praise it gets; I adored it and it shall remain in my collection forever. Dragon's Crown for the Vita is being shipped to me right now, so I should have it in a few days and I can't wait to delve into that!

Swung back into FF 13-2 this weekend. I am on the final chapter finishing up subquests. Also threw some more time into SMT IV, and about 20 hrs in currently, so about halfway I guess. I need to spend some time grinding and fusing better demon before I continue, cause I'm just barely scraping thru some of these battles.

I just started Soul Hackers this weekend. I play about 2 or 3 hours. I just got to get used to talking to demons. I also started Pokémon SoulSilver.

Anyone want to defend the battle system in Kingdom Hearts RE:Chain of Memories HD?
Can I trash it? Well actually just trash the whole card battle thing in general, I only played the original back on GBA but I didn't have much fun at all with the game, and I'll never be interested in playing a remake; though to be fair I don't think anything Kingdom Hearts could really interest me at this point, 358/2 Days was lackluster, I couldn't really get into Birth By Sleep, and after that I had no interest at all in playing Dream Drop Distance. Honestly I don't even think I'll care about Kingdom Hearts 3 if/when that ever comes out.

On a lighter note, I'm now a bit more of a ways into Xillia and I'm still enjoying the game a lot, the new combat features are really cool, although I do feel like the number of enemies they put on each map is more than it should be, and by that I mean I think it has the most densely enemy packed regions in any game with visible enemies I've ever played.

I've been hearing on the twitters that Drag-On Dragoon/Drakengard 3's coming out stateside? Good news for us fans... of The Dark Id's Let's Plays!

As for CoM, I also played the GBA original, and although I didn't mind that it was a card-based battle system, it was a fairly bland one. Also, fuck a certain boss in that game.

I didn't really mind the card thing, though, unlike KH2's battle system, which just made me angry.

I need to get back to Dream Drop. It's been at least 4 or 5 days since I last played it. The fact that I'm back in Twilight town, repeating the same sections doesn't help.

I'm about to cure the Krogans in ME 3. Those frogs (fish?) better be grateful. And the breeding Rakhini (spider queen) was straight out of Dragon Age.

I guess when it's Bioware stealing from Bioware it's okay.

Never played it, honestly. I'm a :ps3: guy. By the time the first came out, I had already finished two and had three on my shelf.
Ah, that's fair. They were represented in ME1, but there's no denying similarities. Only reason I ended up even going back for ME1 (I kinda hated it initially.) was because of how much I enjoyed ME2. Now I've got a soft spot for all of 'em for one reason or another.

To be fair I'm not saying that card based systems can't be good, I totally LOVE Baiten Kaitos, but I'll agree what CoM had was super bland. The thing that really did me in beyond the battle system was the environments in the GBA version (don't know if they changed it in the remakes) which were all just totally copy paste randomly generated, there was nothing remotely interesting about the environments in that game, and basically every world broke down to go around killing stuff in the random rooms until you unlock the next story sequence/boss.

Nono, that's exactly how it is in the remake too. Every room looks almost exactly the same, in a square grid playing same rooms over and over until you hit a story room. Which has same environments as other KH games.

Anyway, I wanted to hear someone say something good about the battle system so I could keep going in the game. About 8 floors done and it's just so blah. Until you fight a boss then it's "Sorry, those 7 and 8's won't help you now". I'm playing on Normal mode and the game does not supply you with any good cards, at least that will make a difference on a boss fight. I literally interrupted a boss on their every attack, until they do a Sleight which I used a 0 to cancel it, then they immediately pop any card like a 4 and do a combo for 1/3rd my health. All the while me pressing X on a 8 doesn't do anything.

Same here. I don't know if I will play ME1 unless it's goes on sale or free on PSN.
You totally should though, if you enjoyed the other Mass Effect games. The gameplay is often janky and unrefined compared to 2 and 3, but it's just such a great experience. I've beaten it seven times. :p

There's allot of good strategy and RPG games on the mobile platform too.

I'm currently playing Dragons of Atlantis: Heirs of the Dragon several times daily. I'm sort of in the middle ground where all the higher level players (15+) raid my town daily for gold. I then in turn raid for lower level players

The two Baten Kaitos games did card battling very well. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't perfect, but it sure was a hell of a lot better than what KH did. SinOfHeart nailed it. The KH card-battling system is tres bland.

The Wii U needs to get on doing HD upscales for the Baten Kaitos games. Those were some of the best looking games on the Cube, period, and Nintendo's console needs more RPG love.

And ME1 is worth playing. I loved shooting Rex in the face and leaving him for dead. Fish-frog bastard was stolen from Farscape anyway...

Gonna finish up FF XII-2 now. The recent trailers and gameplay vids of Lightning Returns look as if it may be the best game of the 13 trilogy.

I've been replaying this on PS3. The story is melodramatic nonsense (like, even more than usual) but it really is a solid game in every other way. Beautiful too.

I actually enjoyed XIII-2 much, much more than XIII.  While I missed the party aspect of XIII, I didn't care for a lot of the cast/the way they were handled in XIII anyway.  Every other aspect imho was much improved in the sequel.  Larger, less linear areas with tons to see and do, tons of side quests (still gotta go back and wrap everything up for 100%), great soundtrack (once I experienced Crazy Chocobo in context it actually sat pretty well with me haha).  Just so much more freedom (or just the illusion thereof).

The game had freedom but it was lazily implemented and was the cause of balance issues in the campaign.  I get that people prefer different styles, but on each game's own merits, I think XIII was just much better constructed.

Up to five Gym Badges in Pokemon Black 2.

In other news, I'm thinking of buying Phantom Brave again, possibly the Wii port this time. I originally played it on PS2, and although I liked some of the characters, story, and music, the battle system was too fiddly. I've been thinking of giving it a second chance lately; that's what I did with FFVIII some years ago, and the second time I played that was much more enjoyable than the first.

I am replaying the original FFT for the thousandth time and am considering how far I want to take the playthrough. I have done pretty much everything in the game (Lv 99's, maxing out all jobs, getting hidden characters, etc). It made me think of some of the crazy things I have done in RPGs in the past, especially FF games since I used to be a pretty big fanboy of the series.

What do you all think is the craziest thing you have done in a RPG? Mine probably would be choosing a team of all White Mages in Final Fantasy I and leveling them up to 99.

I finished Dragon Age 2?

Nah, I don't have any patience for that kinda shit. Running through a Fire Emblem game on its highest difficulty and not letting anyone die is the most grueling I'm willing to do.
