Dragon Quarter's save system was the worst, but it was mainly the battle system, which I loved, that kept me playing through to the end. It's also one of those games that encourages you to restart multiple times, but I managed to get through to the end without doing so (it was tough).

I actually thought Dragon Quarter was fairly cool (I really kind of liked the character designs and the setting), although the game was hard, and I thought the time limit thing was interesting, although I'll admit that after I made it 3/4 of the way through the game and realized I was probably going to have to restart due to overusing dragon powers to get through some of the insane boss fights I kind of burned out on the game and haven't been back; I'll have to look up how to transfer stuff over to the restart (I think there is a locker or something where you can store equipment to use in a restart) if I ever get back to it (and also some of the ways to get a huge pool of XP by using dragon powers since I'm going to die anyways and I remember reading you could farm up XP fairly easily for a restart if you knew you weren't going to make it to the end) and just go from there.

Bumped up Tales of Graces to Chaos difficulty.

Definitely have to focus more on hitting weaknesses now, but it's still not anything killer.

Resonance of Fate is pretty fun. I have no idea what the story is, but the combat and overall presentation is well-done. I'm just on Chapter 4, and all the cutscenes seem kinda random so far. I realize this is a mission-based game, but they could have done a better job on presenting the story, maybe a narrator or something. Please tell me the story kinda makes sense the more you play. So far, it feels like one of those weird anime series that have a bunch of random, unrelated episodes and then the last couple episodes introduces some bad guy out of left field and then its rushed to a quick conclusion, and you realize those previous 20 episodes really had no relavance at all to any sort of story arc. At least, thats the vibe I am getting.

Otherwise, the combat is tight, and the graphics are pretty, so its all good for now.

I was thinking about getting Resonance of Fate after checking out some videos you guys posted on here. I decided to pass for the moment. I have way too many games (mostly RPGs) in my backlog that I haven't even started yet.

It does have some fun combat. Didn't really feel anything for the hex system. The overworld part of it was kind of unique, specially when you were trying to connect certain bonuses with others (you want green hexes by the by).

I think I made it to Chapter 10 before I stopped playing cuz that seemed like the halfway point. It's definitely structured like a monster of the week tv show with hints during each chapter about the main arc. Kind of dug it for how far I got, some of the chapters did have their moments and it's probably better to have a few semi-good little storylines than a whole unoriginal/boring storyline like they seemed be setting up.

I actually like that about anime. It gives you a change to learn about and get to know the characters so you'll actually care about them. Gives the characters a variety of depth. It beats a 13 episode power up or battle dealing with one bad guy that gets boring easily. So in this format I think it's ok to jump around.

But in game format? Can't think of any examples besides games like FF4 where you don't find out the real bad guy until the very last moments. But still linear always following that next goal in the story line.

Somebody get this man (or non-man) a copy of Live A Live!

I'm just saying... it does the episodic, and it does it very well. One of my most memorable SNES experiences.

i actually thought live a live was terrible

i heard RoF, story-wise, there's a main story arc going on but it's kinda interesting because it's taking place outside of the scope of the main characters.

not that i would know
i got to like act 3 or 4 or something? i don't remember. i just remember staring at the arena list and not wanting to do it anymore.
XSEED rebranded to Marvelous USA
Well, they were already sort of the US branch of Marvelous AQL to begin with. I just hope this doesn't impact XSEED's dealings with non-Marvelous Japanese publishers too much.
Red mage, actually. Max him out and you get one of the best skills in the game.
Almost finished with the game and I have to call you out here. Not only does the Red Mage suck, but I don't think any of the starter classes are among the best in the game.

Did you max him out?

Cuz those were the specifics.

What does Red Mage learn anyways at max?

Oh, it's Dualcast.

That's cool I guess.

Ok, ok. I think doublecast is a good skill, but I just checked my save to see what I had on right before the finale, and it wasn't that. Instead, all my characters had Berserk and Double Grip (one had counter instead.)

So... berserk and double grip to win the game. I don't remember when you get access to those.

Wow, they look amazing. Totally looking forward to it. Rikku's hair looks hella good now.
It's a good one.

Tales of Xillia 2 doesn't move as much as expected in Japan

Have they confirmed a US release yet?
They haven't. Let's hope ToX sells well over here to warrant bringing over the sequel.

I am genuinly looking forward to FF X/X-2 HD. I never spent much time with either, just plowed thru them both. I didn't do any sidequests or whatever on X, only the main story. I did do most of X-2 trying to get the best ending, but only had 99% completion because I missed something at the very beginning of the game, so I had to watch the 100% ending on youtube.

Beating the game with 70% completion and wanting to go back sometime for 100% (not that I didn't YouTube the 100% ending as well...) is the major reason why I don't think I'll upgrade to the HD version once I get a PS3. That is, unless there's some way I can use my original version's New Game+ file with it.

So I think Star Ocean on the SNES looks better than it does on the PSP.

Has anyone here played Treasure Hunter G?

I spent a little time on it yesterday, getting past the intro/tutorial portion, and I'm not sure if it's something I'll enjoy. The combat felt really slow paced, and the graphic style is a bit bland.

Any thoughts? Does it get better or more interesting?

Well, they still have not confirmed whether the Last Mission content will be included in the FF X-2 HD upscale. Bastards.

Been grinding in Resonance of Fate a bit to upgrade my guns, but otherwise I am still on chapter 5.

i know i didn't like it.

that says a lot because i played it in the era when i played EVERYTHING

IX is my favorite from the PSX era.

Also, remember I hate X and dislike VIII quite a bit.

So whatever, grain of salt and all that.

You're playing all these over right? Nothing for the first time?

IV and V were new to me. I had tried some of VIII a long time ago, but that was mostly new to me as well. And I only made it a 1/3rd of the way through IX way back when. Never beat VI, or even touched 1-3.

Finished off Persona 2. End boss was a bit of a challenge, unless you follow the "leave one character just to heal and use items" tactic.

Started up Growlanser: Wayfarer Of Time. Game is pretty slow and dialogue heavy so far. Also too many personality choices in the dialogue options. Do these actually have an impact storywise, or is it just for my own amusement?
Also starting Dragon's Dogma. Game feels janky as fuck, but I see fun times ahead.
You don't say Arisen. That is fascinating Arisen. Tell me more Arisen.

Joking aside I'm playing through that game as well, not making that much progress though since I have to finish a cosplay in two weeks. But I've enjoyed what I've played so far, well except for the repetitive dialog, haha. Looking forward to really getting into it more once my weekends aren't dedicated to sewing and painting stuff (with the occasional matches of DotA2 thrown in for breaks).

Same here! I haven't had time to play it. Hoping to do so this week.

Persona 4 Golden was GotY 2012. Stop making things up, Indig.

Gosh.

I have fallen into the Skyrim hole and I don't think I will come out for a while. Do I need to buy the guide for this game?
