If you can't slam with the best (aka RPG Thread XVIII), then jam with the rest!

Are you playing 3 without a save from 2? Tali (the girl wit the biohazard suit) is a major part of your team and legion is part of her story which is one of the main threads. I've heard that if you play without a save from two it sort of arbitrarily decides who's still alive.

You might not be far enough into the game yet? Tali and Legion don't show up until the second half, more or less. Jack is part of an optional mission that you can miss if you're not careful-- basically if Samantha Traynor gives you a lead on a mission, don't wait too long to follow up on it.

I used my save from ME 2. I'm probably just at the half way point (or less). Just 'defended' the citadel form Cerberus.

Love how during the elevator sequence Capt Bailey warns me of "More incoming Phantoms!" As if he can read the enemy titles above their head. The enemy type that we haven't encountered before.

Game is sort of boring me though. At this point it's more of "let's just get this over with."   Instead of "Let's see what happens next!"

Legion's subplot is... kinda awful, really. And it's not like Jacob's cameo, where the whole thing wrapped around to actually being funny. The dude who did most of the writing for Legion and EDI in 2 had little-to-no involvement in the third game, and it kinda shows.

The whole EDI/Joker romance screamed bad fanfiction to me. My wife thinks it's great, but she also reads LOTS of fanfiction...

I had a number of problems with the storytelling in Mass Effect 3 compared to the first two games. Chiefly that they railroaded the story and characters back onto this "Alliance is 100% pure good, Cerberus is 100% pure evil" track, when the events in ME2 were more complex and ambiguous and encouraged the player to make their own decision about who was in the right. The way they treated the Illusive Man was particularly terrible, squeezing out nearly everything interesting about him and changing him into this cackling James Bond villain.

EDI was definitely a bright spot for me at least, I really enjoyed everything they did with her including the tentative romance with Joker.

Still one of my absolute favorite games of all time.

I've been playing Dragon's Crown and been having a blast with it, but I want something to play when I am home. Currently, I have Resosance of Fate and Way of the Samurai 3 to play, which one of those should I play first?

You can play Dragon's Crown when you're home.

Mass Effect 2 is the second best game of this generation.

Dragon's Dogma is number 1.

Canada had SARS.

Facts.

I played Dragon's Dogma last year and I had a blast with it. I could play Dragon's Crown when I'm home as well, but I got it on my Vita, so I'm able to play it wherever

Robotic camel-toe aside, EDI got out of it with more dignity than Legion and the geth, at least.

Her hair looks terrible, though. C'mon, lady.

28+ hours into Kingdom Hearts DDD. Riku is a full world ahead of Sora and can't move on until Sora finishes the Fantasia world.

It's a pretty linear game, though. I don't see any reason to mess with the Flick Rush cup although I did clear a few rounds.

Searched the thread and came up empty, apologies if I'm re-posting earlier content...

Anyone taken a look at this Kickstarter for a space shipbuilder/crew manager game called "The Mandate"?  It sounds promising...well, to qualify, some aspects of the concept sound promising.  The overall updates give the impression that this might be a clusterfuck in the making.  Lots of meta- talk mixed in with art and bickering over accents, but no in-depth detail on the mechanics of the game.  That's bothersome.

It's why FTL was such a success, in my eyes: you strip away all the bullshit and get right down to scratching the shipbuilding itch.  I loves that shit, goofing with ship configurations and staffing is always worth doing.  Watching cutscenes and savoring Russian accents I could take or leave, however.

It looks incredibly interesting, but I can not conceive of them making anything living up to the concept for that budget.

It's the kind of Kickstarter that I really want everyone else to donate to so I can pick it up later if it actually turns out.

I had the same feelings. There's been a few really cool looking Kickstarters lately where my predominant thought is just that there's no way they can actually do that on their proposed budget.

Now, you want to see broken dreams in the making?

Check this shit out.

A super fucking ambitious MMORPG and spiritual successor to a game with a very devoted fanbase... and it has a budget that's probably going to end up ~$650,000. There is no way this ends besides "hilarious".

Saw that on Destructoid a little while ago. So Curt Schilling couldn't get his MMO out the door with $75 million+, but they're going to make it happen with $400,000 and a bunch of volunteer programmers working on nights and weekends. Good luck with that!

I just cannot get into ME2 at all.  Even Yvonne Strahovski's likeness in skin tight outfits can't save it for me.  I dunno why I have such a hard time getting anywhere in the game.  ME3 is on backlog as well.  I've been hanging on to them because I think I want to play them through at some point, but so far, I just haven't been interested.  Same thing with FFXIII-2.  Game looks purty, but every time I play it, I get tired quickly.

Also, my FFXIV sub expires this week.  I probably won't re-up until PS4 version comes out.

The updates on the CoH follow-up have a disclaimer: "All information contained below is conceptual. The ideas expressed below may or may not make it in the game at launch, and may or may not change to accommodate additional information."  That's some fine lawyerin', but to really cover ass you should reserve the right to consider the Kickstarter updates and comments page as a "game" experience and product of the project.  "We never promised you a 'game' game!  THIS IS THE GAME."

I preordered Hometown Story for my daughter.  I'm not sure if she'll like it, but it comes with a plushie which she might appreciate at least.

Well, it looks like neither of us is getting that plushie because I've been reading how shitty Hometown Story turned out and I ended up canceling the preorder.

I will likely get Rune Factory 4 instead.  But farther on down the road.

Instead, I'm going to try and get the furthest I've ever gotten in a Pokemans game with X.  Maybe this time I will actually go more than 3 badges in....

No need to grind in X/Y if you have EXP share on.
I just started last night so I know what you are talking about.

It's nice that a single XP share affects your entire party now. About fuckin' time doe.

I played 3 hours straight and am really enjoying it. I think this is the most fun I've had playing a Pokemon game in a while...

I'm getting sick of having to go back to the citadel after every little mission in mass effect in order to complete side quests and move along character narratives. Oh, the loading screens......

I'm scared to fight Snorlax.
He has a berry.  Luckily my Combustiken has double kick, but I need to get him leveled up real good so I can bust him down to size.  Wanna catch snorlax no matter what.

Three days without a post. ya'll are slacking.

Boy they really cranked the difficulty on this last world in Kingdom Hearts.

BlueShin!!

I donno if your homeboy Metaly posts here on CAG anymore lol,

Passed the message along! I don't know if he posts here anymore either

Haven't been playing any RPGs besides Pokemon Black 2 lately, but I did convince my husband to finally start Torchlight II :whee:

Only rpg I'v,e been playing is Mario & Luigi Dream Team, and it's slow going. I think the next new one on my list is Stick of Truth. though I still have Valkyria Chronicles, Earthbound & KH 1.5 on my backlog.

Dang, are those 3 a never played backlog? Or just got the newest version since I liked it before backlog?

Been swapping between EO IV and SMT IV recently. Not much else.

So, what does everyone here name their trainer-selves in Pokemon games? The last one I played was Black, and I named myself Black. If I wind up getting X or Y eventually, I think it would be dumb to call myself Eks or Why, so I'm at a loss here...
