CERVY!

I'll play with you sometime, I wonder if our connection will be any good since we're fairly close.

But man, I hate only just as much as anyone. I can't stand lag at all.

It sucks cuz neither you or your opponent can perform to the best of their ability.

I had this same problem with Tekken online ;( I like to play Tekken, but not Tekken Rock Paper Scissors.
i'll play you offline, if you ever host an SC meet / tourney in SD.

seriously, online is something that makes me legitimately angry. i've lost 15% of my money so far in stocks, i've had kids laugh at me when i airballed a shot in a pickup game of basketball, i've been straight embarassed in fighting game tournaments, i've tried to hit on bitches that wouldn't give me the time of the day...

... but nothing has made me angrier than SC4 online, except maybe madden. no joke, 100% serious.

hahaha

joe we're gonna have a big SC IV tourney next month, n8 and masa will be running it. Unfortunately I'll be in Hong Kong ;( You should go though!
Does anyone have an insider inkling as to what version of Street Fighter 4 (PS3/360) will be the de facto tournament standard?
Going to depend on the quality of the port. But so far most tournaments are PS and dreamcast based. Most custom sticks are made for those systems as well so i would lean towards ps3 as a guess...
I'm going to guess PS3 version because everyone will have a stick for it but I could be wrong.
I always thought that as well. 360 has a huge community, but will likely be full of casuals and annoying 13yo :bomb:. OTOH, alot of people have 360's and buying a new stick is cheaper than buying a new PS3.

The good thing is that Street Fighter HD comes out this year. That will tell us where the fighting game community will be. I'm going to buy the PS version of both games and hoping capcom adds their own matchmaking system. A poor one could swing gamers to the 360.

Battle Fantasia is almost out for 360, but I think I'll hold out for the PS3 version then see which is the better one. I got too many other stuff to play first anyway.

I honestly think the 360 version is better :x

The PS3 version (when it comes out), will be missing some things the 360 one has.

Yet the 360 version is still missing, oh, idk, a controller that can play fighting games maybe?
pffffft!! welcome to JEKKI's ranting the day after Soul Calibur came out!!

I'm waaaaaaay ahead of all yallz!
offline is fun, son

don't brag because no one lives in lancaster =)

Whoa, busta, I thought you said it was the other way around ::whistle2:s

hmm...

man, fuck a sad face, I'm wearin' a happy fuckin' face now. Wit a smile on it. Because now I can buy the 360 version first and not have to wait for a PS3 version down the road.

NANDATOU!?!!!!! Battle Fantasia's... already out?? And it's the better version? This is... wow. The shit just flew out of my pants.
Yeah, I'll probably pick it up this week. If I have some money to spare that is.
I'll probably wait a week or two, because priorities this week = Yakuza 2, Crysis Warhead, and Dragon Quest IV while it's on sale.
I'll probably wait a week or two, because priorities this week = Yakuza 2, Crysis Warhead, and Dragon Quest IV while it's on sale.
I already snagged Yakuza 2, but I'm definitely picking up Crysis Warhead too. I should get DQIV too, since it is on sale. But I really want Battle Fantasia. . .

Time to sell some shit.

I really do wanna buy Battle Fantasia soon, just so I can feel like I'm supporting Aksys... it's nice that we've finally got a company putting out good fighters like this in the US.

Edit: One last question, though, MM - do you know if the stuff that was going to be added to the PS3 version (I think you said there was gonna be new stuff a while back) is still on the way, or is the 360 version the clear winner as far as content goes? or maybe that new content was just supposed to be for US releases in general or... I dunno, I'm confused.

I'm not sure if it will still be added. I know some things might be taken out. I can't really say it here. But I'll try to find out what I can and reply here.

Alright, coo. Thanks, for all the general info up to this point.

I'll probably end up breaking down and buying the 360 version either way.
Alright, coo. Thanks, for all the general info up to this point.

I'll probably end up getting the 360 version as well if stuff is going to be left out of the PS3 version.

Is there any good pads at all for the 360 for fighters? I use sticks but some of my friends prefer pads.

Bummer for those of us who wanted BF for PS3.

Looks like I'll probably import it sooner or later. Maybe by the time I decide, it'll be out domestically.

Played some more SFIV at Arcade UFO a few nights ago. The machines there only take dollar coins, so I bought 10 coins and sat next to this dude playing Akuma.

10 dollars later, it was 10-0. :whistle2:(
That mvc2 match was hilarious!
That match was straight up awesome. Dude was beastly.

Haha. Who were you picking?

On a side note, my jaw almost hit the floor today walking to class when I saw a sign that said "MD Arcade now Open" posted onto a lampost. It had hours and a location. Hopefully it's what I'm thinking, and not somethign completely different. Going to investigate later.

Well, I think our Ms. Pac Man machine is still broken.
A brand new Street Fighter finally comes out and the guy picks Akuma 10 times in a row.
Haha that's the way it was when I was playing to. Everyone was just picking regular ass characters.

In his defense though, if he keeps winning he can't switch.

I'm currently playing SC IV at the moment anyone wanna play me? Also I randomly encountered N8monster or sumtin who plays tekken but didn't know he plays SC
Go msg him for me and tell him MarkMan says "n8 you suck at SCIV"

Thanks.
lol I saw his % it was about 60 or so on ranked matches, too many noobs online but I did come across some good players
In his defense though, if he keeps winning he can't switch.
That's true, forgot about arcade rules.

off topic but man Im trying to catch up on dat Ayumi Hamasaki discography...
Here we go folks. I did have to look up a couple of fighting game terms I didn't know for this one, but I'm confident in this translation's accuracy for the most part.

Read and discuss!

I'm free today, so here's my 2nd diary update for the day . . .

Tentative character rankings!

Whether it's perfect yet is subjective,
but I doubt there are any mistakes.

S: Zangief

He's different. Perfectly different.

When people say he's at a disadvantage to Sagat, I think "what the hell?"

It's one thing to say,
"There's a bad matchup when I use Zangief"
"All characters have a bad matchup against Zangief"
is more like it.

Without taking into consideration the Zangief players who have a life lead and think "I'll SPD them one more time",
I'm really talking just about "the Zangief in my head",

But those "I will keep attacking with Zangief until they're dead" people,
While I don't think that's the best way to play him, I still think that style is strong enough.

For people who have a different opinion,
Against "Zangief with a life lead holding down back",
Please clearly show me an attack style that will beat it!

BESIDES a Ryu with a Shinkuu Hadouken or charging up for one.

AA: Sagat

Strong enough, maybe the character for Street Fighter 2 specialists?

That's what I thought,
but Tiger Knee destroys everything.

If you watch closely it's almost like a dragon punch,
and you can punish whiffed footsies against some characters,
but that's not the problem.

The fact that in addition to his natural SF2 effectiveness,
he still has Tiger Knee puts him at this rank.

A: M. Bison (Dictator)

The fact that he can hang with Zangief/Sagat is his strong point.
There's an overwhelming feeling that he can't do anything to lower ranked characters,
But if you just play regular footsies (or even if you're forced to play footsies), he's strong.

A: Ryu

The speed of fierce Shoryuken is a point of Ryu's adaptation to SF4.
There's also the perfect backdash counter, his hurricane kick.

The rest doesn't need to be said.

A: Rufus

The only character in SF4
who gets a huge return on on throw motions and holding down back.

I can't say anything flattering about his footsies,
but unlike ST and 3rd Strike,
Attacks that control the screen (like fireballs that don't disappear)
Don't exist in SF4, so it doesn't matter too much.

B: Chun Li

By all rights, she's below Zangief/Sagat,
but "she will always lose to any Zangief"
Is too strong of an assessment for this spot.

B: Ken

From here on out, Ken's potential is vast.
Fierce shoryuken and fierce hurricane kick are the bottlenecks.
Bearing Zangief/Sagat in mind,
You can assume that he's not the 3rd best character.

B: Balrog (boxer)
I thought this when I tried him myself, and he's definitely strong.
Because his value is dependent on mind games/readability (besides just headbutt),
You can assume this character has his pros and cons.

B: Abel

As I thought, a strong character.
This is a simple way of saying it,
but he feels a lot like 3rd Strike Makoto.

He's more stylish than Makoto.

B: Blanka

For people who don't understand, his matches probably looks shitty and boring,
but actually he's a character that's easy to understand.

Keeping in mind that he can hold his own against Zangief,
The next time, there's a good chance he will be higher.

C: Viper

She holds much power,
but as I thought, it seems like she doesn't fit the game.

Nonetheless, I haven't used her much myself,
so there's a chance she may climb up to B rank.

There's no way she'll become better than Zangief/Sagat.

C: Fuerte

Depends on your ability to link 18 fierces.

Well . . .
I usually think of it based on me not missing in tournaments,
But I guess this loop is an exception.

That being the case, he goes here.

C: Guile

Even comparing him to the old Guile,
I think he really did become more interesting.

The scariness of letting go of a charge isn't as bad in SF4,
so I really want more Guiles to focus on that when they play.
But I digress.

D: Honda

His basic stats are high,
but each of his moves are way too bad.

Nonetheless,
in SF4's gameplay,
You can't say "this character is weak, therefore they can't win",
So I expect character specialists and hard studiers to make an appearance with him.

D: Dhalsim

For people who say he can win against Ryu and Ken,
I have no idea what you're seeing.

At least now,
There is no Dhalsim that I've lost more than 2 games against.
Someone please explain this to me.

With a CVS2 player like Iyo's skill level,
He might rise a little higher,
but my skill level is lower so he goes here.

F: Vega (claw)

Extremely disadvantaged.

You must be willing to really win with time-ups only.
Or should I say, he's just that kind of character.

It's just that he doesn't have the adequate tools to do even that with,
so that's basically the reason he gets the lowest rank.

With all the tools,
If you concentrate solely on time-up wins . . .

Maybe.

That's the idea.

I am completely riddled by Akuma.

Summary below.

--
S: Zangief
AA: Sagat

A: Dictator, Ryu, Rufus
B: Chun Li (she's only here because of Zangief), Boxer, Abel, Blanka

C: Viper (for now), El Fuerte, Guile

D: Honda, Dhalsim
(Up to now, haven't used them at all)

F: Claw (I expect him to stay here)
--

If I were to write the main idea behind these ranks,

"At my skill level, and the current metagame, this is about right".

To the people that say
"What?! You're not changing Claw??",

I don't expect you to be saying that much longer.

For a summary, here is the tier list:

S: Zangief
AA: Sagat

A: Dictator, Ryu, Rufus
B: Chun Li, Boxer, Abel, Blanka
C: Viper (for now), El Fuerte, Guile
D: Honda, Dhalsim
F: Claw
First time I played, I picked Blanka. Won't lie, I wanted to sort of go for the comfort zone :) My buddy played Ken all day long.

I got lucky though, a couple of the guys we played wanted to try out every character in the game. Minus Crizzle (Top MVC2 player) who was beasting all of us with Vega/Sagat.

After messing around with Blanka though, I became obsessed with playing Abel. So fun. So good.

It shouldn't be called a tier list. It's just how he ranks them, thus his use of "ranking" instead of tier.

From my understanding, tiers are based upon tournament results which is compiled together to put the general higher win;loss ratios at the top, and the lower ratios at the bottom. Since the game is still new, and I doubt professional tournaments have been held since the release here, US tiers shouldn't exist yet. But meh.

So that arcade I mentioned earlier that opened up in my town?

Totally
fucking useless. They had Big Buck Hunter, Ms. Pac-Man, 3 racing games and 3 pool tables. OH YA AND A JUKEBOX

tier lists are formulated by the community, not through any "official" arbitrator.. it shouldn't be too taboo for a top ranking player to analyze and speculate what he/she feels is an accurate tier list.. even though there haven't been any national tournaments yet, a lot of top players are playing the shit out of the game.

tier lists aren't like the ten commandments, etched in stone. for some games, they still change.. for some not so much, but still.

remember when iceman was top tier in marvel? and he was for a little while..
