Now with Wiki Editable Goodness!!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

ITUNES GIFT CARD SALES
Gamestop: 6/8 to 6/14, $25 iTunes gift card for $20

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Infinity Blade Multiplayer is pretty cool. I was doing awesome until the other person got to be the wood jester. I do not understand its moves.

Just picked up an iPad. Is Plants v Zombies worth the 6.99 if you already own the iphone version. Or is it worth waiting for a possible sale?

I waited for the Japan relief sale because I already had it on the iPhone. You may be waiting a while for the next sale as it looks like there has only been one other sale in its price history (not counting the price drop).
Oooh...I'd grab Zenonia 3 for sure....any idea of the soon to be sale?
Same here, buying Zenonia 3. No, no idea the timeframe, but I'd guess it should probably be either tonight or tomorrow.
I'm bummed to see that there is no iPad version. Maybe later?
It's going to be universal in an upcoming update.

A port of an existing PopCap game is 4th & Battery's new title? What happened to that being the experimental wing? Downloading anyway.

Also, toucharcade.com pretty much trashed Chaos Rings Omega. Apparently it's nearly identical to the first game with differences such as changed color palletes. I wasn't interested anyway, but OUCH. Sounds like SE is just going for a money grab. Here:

PopCap games is currently doing a sale where one of their sales will be discounted for 48 hours. The iPad version is bound to be on sale considering the sale will last 6 weeks.

It's really rare for them to knock something, usually they only cover a game if it's good. It must be pretty bad.

Good to know. Thanks

Sorry meant to say *one of their games for the iPhone, iPod and iPad will be on sale for 48 hours for the next 6 weeks.

So far its been PvZ (iPhone, iPod Touch), Chuzzle, and stupid Bejeweled in-app purchases(really PopCap? lame).
And it's on sale; last time I checked it was $4.99 but it's $.99, so get it while it's hot!
Yeah, posted it on the previous page ;)

Trivia Hound: Platinum Edition has dropped to FREE for the first time since last October.
"Trivia Hound is a pack of trivia cards that you can flip through to challenge yourself and your friends. This isn't wimpy multiple choice trivia…it's a real test of knowledge, and many questions include cool factoids so you're always learning something new."

LaDiDa is the new main FAAD offering.
"LaDiDa is a reverse karaoke app that uses artificial intelligence to help you sound like a professional singer. You SING or RAP into the phone, and LaDiDa will analyze your voice and compose music to match. Also works on melodic instruments such as GUITAR.
***NOW WITH PITCH CORRECTION AND REVERB***
Can't sing? Doesn't matter! LaDiDa can automatically tune your voice to the correct notes and add studio-quality vocal effects."

Paper Glider Para Drop is also being highlighted by FAAD.
"Hit the spot in Paper Glider Para Drop! Jump from your glider at the right moment to land safely onto the trampoline...
Careful though, if you miss you could sizzle in the campfire or splat in a doggy doo!
Tap to jump out of your glider, tap again to open your parachute before the fence and let the wind carry you safely to the trampoline. Touching down in the middle of the landing zone gives you BIG points!"

VegasTowers
is the latest OpenFeint FGOTD title.
"Tower above the Las Vegas skyline with your brand new Mega-Resort! Build your own luxury skyscraper from the ground up, manage hundreds of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, and prosper from the thousands of visitors you'll attract. Compete with thousands of other players in real-time to dominate the Vegas Strip!"

Zenonia 3 looks tempting, but what's this I'm reading about the Zen store and needing to pay more money for in game items?

Zenonia 3 isn't really $0.99. It's a heck of a lot more once you discover how much IAP is needed... IAP is evil, evil I tell you!

Thanks! HD version is free as well
I'm tempted by this. I've been playing the iPhone version in 2x and it's great but I'd hate to buy it and have EA drop it to .99 next month
If there's something I learned about App Store sales, it's ALWAYS wait on EA and Gameloft games to go on sale. Almost all of them eventually drop to $0.99 for a holiday sale.

Very true. I am tempted as well, but I am willing to wait.
Myst is a buck. Should I or shouldn't I?

App Store
Myst, if you haven't played it already, is a fantastic game or a terrible game depending on your gaming sensibilities. I thought it was phenomenal when I played it some years back, and it's WELL worth a buck.

Thanks for the heads up - probably the only game my wife ever played before meeting me and we just got an ipad.
Zenonia 3 looks tempting, but what's this I'm reading about the Zen store and needing to pay more money for in game items?
This. Forcing you to buy IAP just to finish a game is really greedy on the developer's part. I think I'll stick to parts 1 and 2.

Not to go too off topic but realMyst: Interactive 3D Edition was incredible if you were into Myst at all. I finished Myst on 3do originally but realMyst is by far the best version. I really wish they'd stop rereleasing all these crap, I mean that in the most endearing way  , versions of the game and rerelease realMyst. That'd be sick on the iPad or PS3/360 in real3D.
Infinity blade is $2.99.
Yeah, that was posted a page or two back, great deal.

Does anyone have an opinion on Chaos Rings? Thinking of picking it up while it's on sale.

I was on the fence because of that. It's the main reason I was waiting for a price drop rather than buying it full price (well, to tell the truth I rarely buy games at full price).

Anyway, before buying I read somewhere else that it's possible to finish the game without the need of buying IAP, but it's a bit harsh. Here's a link to the discussion.

Personally, I know I won't be buying IAP. But, for a buck, it should at least entertain me for a while. Going to the movies (as an example) is a lot more expensive, and it's just for two hours tops.

I've played PvZ on several platforms and iPad is without a doubt the best experience. It's meant to be played with your fingers.
Thanks for the heads up - probably the only game my wife ever played before meeting me and we just got an ipad.
Alas, Myst isn't a universal game and there's no separate iPad version either. Bummed.

I'm considering Fruit Ninja HD for 99 cents, but I'm not sure why. I don't play it on my iPhone, so why would I play it on the iPad?

Whoops completely missed that, sorry for the repost. This topic has been busy the past day.

Wow, i just bought infinity blade and i am VERY disappointed. The graphics are great, but the game is the action-RPG equivalent of a soccer game where you only do penalty kicks over and over. It's one combat sequence after another, fighting one of 3-5 different kinds of enemies with different skins one at a time where you do the same thing over and over. Wait for the enemy to attack, swipe to parry, swipe to attack, repeat, next enemy. Eventually enemies get stronger and you need better gear which you can buy with money from earlier fights. However, enemies just hit harder and have more health. They never do any different attacks, your fights never change, you just need more HP to take hits. Once you're strong enough to take on the guy who could two-shot you before you move on to the next guy who does the same thing as the guy before him, but hits a little bit harder.

I don't really recommend this game, unless you're just looking to show off ipad2 graphics.

How is that different than most games? There are a few enemy types, rinse, repeat. It's not the most varied game but I really enjoyed my time with it which has to be at least in the 5-10 hour range.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Smef on Infinity Blade. I found it a completely repetitious bore. It was a waste of money, but I think I probably paid more then Smef, so I lose. I keep meaning to try it on my iPad anyway, but I never feel motivated. Perhaps when I'm suffering from insomnia. It's true that I didn't stick with it. Some people say it clicks later. I guess I don't have the patience to get to that point. When my first whatever-they-call-it was over, I was done with it.

Myst on the iOS for a buck is great... If you love old school point and click adventure (no dialog really), and are not sick of myst already.

Infinity Blade is one of my favorite games, but I also love demons souls on the ps3. If you like grinding, farming, crushingly difficult but extremely rewarding games, its awesome.

Chaos rings, I think is a huge steal right now I've always heard good things about it but the price is usually 12 bucks or around there Rpg square Enix fans can't really lose at 3.99

Army of darkness defence is also on sale for .99 doesnt say how long it'll last. Part action, part tower defense 100% Bruce Campbell. 5 stars.

The sequel, Orions 2, was released and it has online unlike the original. I've never played either. There's a free version to try. Orions 2 mini. I'm downloading it now. Unfortunately there's no iPad version, and apparently that's unlikely. However I'm told it looks pretty good at 2x scaling. I'm going to give it a shot, anyway.
