Now with Wiki Editable Goodness!!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

ITUNES GIFT CARD SALES
Gamestop: 6/8 to 6/14, $25 iTunes gift card for $20

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on missed high-quality games and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new idevice. The gameloft fathers day sale includes the iPad versions of these games at $.99 - are any of the iPad versions especially good? I'm specifically considering Gangstar 2 and Spiderman

Thanks!

Still thinking about Chaos & Order. By the way, keep in mind that there's a sub.

Gameloft’s latest release is called Order & Chaos Online – and is their iOS answer to World of Warcraft (WoW). It just hit the App Store and comes with a $6.99 (universal) price tag. That’s not too bad for an iOS game, but you’ll also need to pay a subscription fee. You get three months free when you first login, and to continue playing after that you’ll have to pay $0.99 per month, $1.99 for three months, or $2.99 for six months.

I forgot about the subscription part. Well, I guess I'll get at least 3 months out of it. But now I'm also really hesitant to fire it up because I may not be able to put the time into it yet to make it not feel like I wasted some money. So I guess I'll be holding off on it. Stupid subscription games. Oh well.

holy christ, it's 9 months of gaming for 4 dollars. You can't get your moneys worth out of that?

4 bucks for a 6 month mmo sub is incredibly cheap. That being said, I doubt you will keep on playing this game for more than a few weeks unless its changed. The game has a very solid foundation but gets dull after a while because there isnt much to do other then quest and grind and all the quests are very similar. I never got to the level cap, but from what Ive read there is nothing really to do once you get there. I still think you can get a ton of game play out of it before it gets old. It is a good value for a buck, I just dont think the experience lasts for months/yrs like Warcraft or other mmos(at least in its present form).

Uh. What if I fired it up, played it for 10 minutes, then didn't get back to it for half a year? I've got games I've downloaded and even bought that are like that. :)

Not a game, but Maven Web Browser has gone free and seems to have good reviews:
Egg vs. Chicken is free for the first time and highly reviewed.

Edit: oh, beaten. oh well, heh.
There seems to be a lot of complaints in recent reviews that this has moved even further to push IAP (which sucks for those who paid for it). Still will probably download to give it a shot for free.

EDIT: According to a TA thread, the game takes up about 300 MB of space after install. And with all the IAP complaints, I'll pass on this one. Have an 8GB so gotta set priorities.

Perfect! I'm glad I waited on this one. I had a feeling it might go free. I just didn't think it would happen quite so quickly. The HD version is also available for FREE for your iPad enjoyment.
Spiderman for a buck is a steal. Having a blast with it. I just can't get pass through the 2nd boss.
Good old Rhino. That's the biggest problem with the game, insane difficulty spikes, I never did make it passed the second boss before I moved on to other games.

Have you started to get a sixth sense for Apps that will go free too? I swear I can tell when a new app is going to drop to $1 or free soon after its release.
wow, continuity 2 looks awesome. comes out june 23rd for $0.99 +app

I got stuck forever as well and looked up the strategy online. You need to be near a wall and dodge when he's charging. He'll hit the wall and get dizzy and you can attack him easily then. He'll eventually stop being dizzy, and you just repeat the same strategy. Boss fight goes quickly when you use that strategy.

I didnt see this anywhere but Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 got an update today that added 10 characters and 6 more levels. Finally bringing the rest of my favorites back into the game. The game is still lackluster but there arent many fighting games on the iphone to begin with.

Maybe cuz most developers are turned off on trying to compete with the likes of Street Fighter 4. It does set a pretty high standard bar.

That may be but even before SF4 hit, there werent many then. SF4 is def the best on the ios but that shouldnt stop anyone from bringing another fighter out. UMK3 isnt bad, its just buggy. Im still confused as to why they decided to redo the characters in the game as 3d models... i guess they couldnt really make the original HD without making it look nasty.

Hey what's the best way to submit a request for a refund? I just found out that the fitness app I use (full fitness) got pulled, but what irks me is that it was released as a replacement for another app that got pulled (ifitness) so basically I've paid twice for this app and twice it's gotten pulled.

Email Apple support. It's not guaranteed but worth a shot.

Thanks! Normally I'd just ignore it but this crap has happened more than once. There's too much of this bait and switch type stuff happening in the app store recently.

Both iFitness and its replacement are fantastic apps despite no longer being on the store.
Why do you feel that warrants a refund? Both iFitness and its replacement are fantastic apps despite no longer being on the store.
Because I want to buy an app that will continue to get updates and bug fixes, etc. Full fitness was even better than ifitness, but with 5.0 or even 4.x updates, the app may no longer work. Full fitness was supposed to be the ifitness code but with all sorts of updates coming etc, so a lot of ifitness users bought it, then it got pulled.

Btw Applichord mini is currently Free

Shining blocks contain bonuses that can seriously change the situation. Green power-ups will help you to cope the task – such as ball splits, rocket launcher, plasma gun, fire ball, acid ball, magnet, shield and so on. Try to avoid red power-downs, that can speed up balls, decrease board size, make balls flight trajectory unpredictable or even explode the board."

Just wondering, is there any point in buying the original if I'm buying the sequel?

I still can't decide from the last time Fast Five was $1 if Fast Five is worth buying if you have Asphalt 6. Hm. And come on, Gameloft, put MC2 on sale already. It's starting to annoy me. :p

EA bought firemint. This is part of their manly sale.

Is Real Racing 2 HD worth $7? It looks fun, but I just don't know. Seeking opinions.

I'm in for free Army of Darkness & HD. It's worth a shot for free even though I'm not really a defense game fan.

Is there any reason to buy Real Racing 1 if I'm gonna get Real Racing 2? I have the new generation ipad so how good is Real Racing 2? Debating whether I want to pick it up or not.

I'm curious about Real Racing 2 HD for iPad. I went to YouTube to view gameplay for it.

I may sound weird but does Real Racing 2 offer NON tilt controls (like a standard analog visual nub or something)? I loved Death Rally and Galaxy on Fire 2 for this.

Sorry if I sound off, I barely slept last night due to weather ;_;

I'm giving away a code for Hard Lines, which is an iPhone/iPod Touch game I really enjoyed. It's basically Snake + Tron Light Cycles. Details here.

And @wongjp: Real Racing 2 does have non-tilt controls, but I can't comment on whether they're any good.
