Since the old thread was getting too large, I made this new thread to continue.

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.

Isn't it more like a demo... you can only play a handful of levels without having to buy more.
Seems like I heard a lot of people complaining about that when it first came out.

Sort of. Think of it more as a game with extra DLC at your fingertips. The core game has more modes and levels than the original Pac Man: CE, btw, and is a fraction of the cost. The add on pack just gives you more.

It's a great game. I don't mind the controls, like some. It's so good, I would buy it in a heartbeat for the 360.

Red Conquest! is $2 from $4. I HIGHLY recommend it. The new update just added online multiplayer, a new faction (Green), more challenge missions, and Episode 2 campaign. Definitely my most favorite RTS game on the iDevice (the other would be Robocalypse).

EDIT: Server isn't exactly "up" yet, the dev team is on Easter and they didn't expect Apple to approve it so quickly. And people on TouchArcade say that Green is a bit overpowered compared to Red and Blue for now.

I will have to look into it, I don't quite get the object of the game by watching the trailers. They are kind of confusing... No explanation of what is going on.
Thanks for the heads up though...

Pacman C.E. is awesome for $.99. Already had it on 360 but I honestly prefer this version because I can play it while taking a crap, ect. The controls were fine for me, and even if they bothered you I have a hard time believing anyone wouldn't get their $.99 worth from this great game.

Zombiesmasher is really fun. It surprised me. I thought it'd be crappier than Knights Onrush (Gameloft's Castle Smashers sure as hell was.)... but it is surprisingly dynamic. The ragdoll effects, the double-touch action, the quick pace, the fantastic music... it's really good.

Pac-Man CE is great, but it's true that you have to buy DLC to get the full game. It's still worth it. I think it controls quite well. I mean it's not perfect, but there is a lot of fun in there anyway and it's uber portable.

Free App Calendar is showing a retro-modern (?) gravity game called Lunarcy (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=93) for its current offering.

Hmmm, wondering if I should suck down some of the free HD apps that are currently available. I know I'm more than likely going to pick up an iPad at some point. I just want a bigger hard drive on the thing. . .at least 96GB (preferably 128) will make me jump.

Free App a Day gives us the love for Easter with a Commodore 64 (!) emulator (http://www.freeappaday.com/app.php?day=04&month=04). Included are 8 games: Dragons Den, Le Mans, International Basketball, International Soccer, International Tennis, Jupiter Lander, Arctic Shipwreck and Jack Attack. The 80s live!

Great App a Day is featuring the puzzler Claustrophobia (http://www.greatappaday.com/details/claustrophobia/).

Free App Calendar is now showing the strategy game Defence of the Future (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=65).

Happy Easter!

Those C64 games are a bit too old school even for me. I tried a bunch of them including some of the free downloadable ones and they are pretty rough.
can i get a more detailed trip report on red conquest? i cant quite get it from the descrption
Its a very deep RTS. There's 3 factions now, Red, Blue, and now Green. There's a campaign (now with Episode 2), offline skirmish, local multiplayer, AND online multiplayer. Its pretty much like your general RTS. Build harvesters, harvest materials, build units and attack. Its just how you control your units and how you micro/macro-manage your units that makes this RTS stands out. And the game is a visual-fest.

Some reviews:

I'm serious, this is one of the BEST RTS game on the iDevice platform.

Hmm.. I just cant get into those games where I have to build harvesters, harvest gems or minerals, build weapon factories, etc... I guess I am more of a pick up and play kind of guy, Tilt to Live, Hit N' Run, Minisquadron, etc... something that I dont have to set aside hours of time to play.

I am sure its a great game, just not for me.

Ditto for me on RTS games. I want to like them and do play them religiously for a little while, but inevitably stop playing and then after a while, going back to it seems like more trouble then it's worth. Robocalypse, for example. A fine game and I got a fair way into it, but now I haven't played it in months and every time I think about going back to it I never get past the thought of going back to it. Worse, on the iPhone, if I delete the app and then later install it whenever I decide I do want to go back to it, all my progress would be lost, so I end up with these effectively dead apps that I don't want to delete as I think maybe some day I'll want to continue it. Of course that's not Robocalypses fault, but still.

Yep... Exactly. I just decided the other day to go through my phone and remove games I havent played in a month or so, I was running out of free space. : ) So many good games out and so little free space. :D

Ditto. I spent a good chunk of time on Saturday removing about two-thirds of the 600-some apps I've acquired so far. Yeeesh. At least half of the free ones I've never even launched. Now I'm just trying to keep it down to stuff I actually want to play. Once I beat 'em and/or get tired of looking at the same set of icons, I'll switch out for some "new" backlog titles. In the meantime, of course, I'll keep sucking down the freebies and various bargains too good to pass up. Lord help me if I ever lose my internet connection. . .

Speaking of freebies, here's one for you: GW Monkey (http://itunes.apple.com/app/gw-monkey/id309531668?mt=8)

I've actually gotten tired of all these temporarily free apps. Most of them are crap and I spend more time downloading them and deleting them then playing them. I'll still keep an eye on freebies, but unless the game is getting raves and is also something I'm sure I'd like and will play for a while, I'm going to pass.

So I say, anyway. :)

I'm with you there. I used to download them all then give them a shot but I'm far more picky now.

Agreed with the last couple posts! The thing is.. I still download the freebie apps, just because I'm a cheapassgamer.

I agree ... I hardly download the free apps anymore because most are so utterly terrible that it's not worth the time. I really hope Apple revamps the App store at some point and provides a clearer, more precise way of separating the great games and apps from the rest of the really poorly made stuff that seems to be clogging up the store.

The rating system is a nice start, but I'd really like to have more flexibility in the way we can search for apps and maybe save potentially promising apps for later. It would also be great to permanently block apps from appearing that one might personally either not be interested in or find to be awful. Just a thought.

The only "free app a day" deal I ever kept was that Field Goal one where you kick a football through the goalpost. All the rest I've tried were either terrible or boring.

I appreciate the effort Dimsdale ... I just wish the screening process that Apple has in place was a bit more ... selective. Though I know that's a hypocritical wish on my part, as I appreciate the open market approach they've taken ... it just makes it a chore to separate the cream of the crop from the rest.

I picked the game up after your recommendation, and while it does look awesome, I am totally confused. The tutorial is not helping much. Know of a good site with a tutorial? I WANT to like this game, but I'm pretty confused :(

Thanks for any help!

Not a problem. Join TouchArcade, there's a bunch of Red Conquest players on there and the development team is there. Also add me on your friendlist in Red Conquest (its RayLancer on there). The game has a huge learning curve, but it won't take long to get used to the UI and gameplay. I'm pretty new to online, but if you ever feel like doing some co-op online against the AI let me know =]

Now for guides, this is pretty lengthy but it describes the game in detail pretty well. Just note that this was done when the game was launched. But there's not much change besides the new Green faction.

No way Dims, keep it up! I'm the guy that originally told you to do it. I enjoy looking at what is offered daily! Every now and then something great comes along, ala yesterday's Commodore 64 app!!!

Honestly complaining about a free game is just wasting everyone's time, just like this post. Complain about a game you paid for that sucks, at least the rest of us can avoid wasting our money. I am grateful for all the posts in this thread.

My complaint is directed at apple over their stupid iPod/iTouch UI. I mean come on, why no folders !!

THIS.
We need better app browsing UI.

Pretty much completely off topic, but does anyone want 400 XBLA points? I'd glady take $5 PSN/PayPal/iTunes credit. I won them in a contest and have no use for them.

Cool! I will check it out when I get home. Thanks! :)

My friendlist name for Red Conquest will be "TrustyMutsi".
