This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

I hope that's the case as I wouldn't want to have that many apps running in the background. (I never read into the update in too much detail... I was looking forward to folders and Game Center for the most part).

Also, I have a 64GB iPod Touch and so far I haven't experienced any issues with crashing or any of that jazz except with Creeps (it just crashed every time). All other games worked fine and ran smooth. The games mentioned would be:

Angry Birds
Creeps
iBlast Moki
Freaking Inkies
Plants vs Zombies
Puzzle Quest
Tiger Woods
Tilt to Live

Since posting my initial list, iBlast Moki and Panda Mania work after crashing initially. Creeps doesn't get past loading screen (tried >5 times). Freaking Inkies is still horribly slow. Auditorium: slowed down a lot.

Favorites that still work fine: PvZ, Sword&Poker, Carcassonne, Space Miner, Puzzle Quest 1&2, Angry Birds, Hook Champ, Super Hook.

Game Center won't be coming till this fall (alas).

Can any iPad owners comment on any of these?

There is an ipad version of monkeyball called the sakura edition or something. It includes extra mini games, but not much else to the best of my knowledge. Maybe some extra levels.

The backup portion of the upgrade is stuck at what is probably the 5% range. It's been like that for close to 2 hours now. Is this normal? I don't want to cancel the back up and have something get screwed up.

I had the same issue while trying to upgrade at work today, I bombed out at around 70%. I cancelled the sync and then killed itunes in task manager because it was completely hung. I went back in and skipped the backup, was completely installed in 10 minutes. Hope that helps.

iPhone version of 2010 Spiel des Jahres nominee "Roll Through the Ages" currently on sale for 2.99, down from 4.99. I haven't bit yet, I feel a little weird buying an electronic version of a game I have the physical version of, but it's three bucks, and it could definitely be a nice timefiller when I don't have access to the real game.

I had some major problems trying to download the update after work today. It said 60 minutes plus, then error'd out 5 times till i eventually gave up and tried later. It eventually started acting nice and downloaded in about 7 minutes (from beginning to end)

Unfortunately, having about 7 gigs worth of junk takes an insanely large amount of time to "restore". Quite retarded that I can't just say screw it, and transfer my own stuff one at a time

It is normal. It will hang around 5% for nearly 40 minutes or so before it shoots up to 90%.

So if you want to make folders just tap and hold an app till it wiggles and then drag one app into another and it'll create a folder which you can name/rename. The only problem is that the folders fill up and can only hold 12 apps in all. Which is absolutely assinine. The first one I tried making wanted to call itself GAMES ... Do they have any idea how many fucking games they've been selling!? So what's next? GAMES2, GAMES3, etc.

I don't know, maybe I'll try alphabetizing them. A, B, C, etc.

I bit on NFS Shift, thanks.

FYI, Plants vs. Zombies just got a 1.1 update that adds OS 4 multi-tasking compatibility and general enhancements / bug fixes.

I picked up Tiger, cause I was getting tired of Let's Golf!, and it's pretty solid. I can't decide if the putting is too fucking difficult or just plain terrible, though. Maybe it's user error.

Clue is really good. It's not the board game, just a bunch of whodunit logic puzzles that are smartly presented and kinda randomized.

Roll through the ages is a lot of fun. They say they're going to up the price when they add in AI.

As it stands, even in solitaire, the game is good fun.

Thanks. I just dropped 5 bucks on EA games. Now I just need to take the time to play them.
Other 99 cent games include FIFA 10, NBA Live, NFS Undercover, Dragon's Lair and Madden 10!
Madden 10 has a playoff mode thats free if you click the "madden shop" button in game - but they want .99c for Roster Updates.

Geez, this iOS4 software is a huge battery drainer. Hope they fix that.

EDIT

My drive capacity even dropped by .17GB down to 6.83gb as well. It was exactly 7GB before I installed the update.

A couple of iPad comments now that I've purchased a few.

-Yahtzee Adventures scales up fine, plays just like the iPod version. Well worth $1.

-The Game of Life doesn't scale up to 2X. You click the button and nothing happens. Not worth the $1 IMO because of this.

-Dragon's Lair is awesome on the ipad. Scales up, is much easier to control due to the larger buttons. Brings back good old school arcade memories. Well worth $1.

-NFSU is amazing. Graphics aren't fantastic, but for 99 cents it's very nice. Scales well.

Thank you for posting this. I didn't know how to make folders on the touch or if it was even possible. Awesome, now to organize all of this later tonight. :bouncy:

Thx for NFS:S. Still undecided about upgrading my 3G to iOS 4. Not sure if it's worth it from what ppl here have been saying (for 3G owners at least).

I put mine in categories. Tower Defense, Line Drawing, RPGs, Board Games, etc. Seems to work pretty well so far, although I'm thinking about doing a bit of consolidation. Also, there are at least a few games I have that defy categorization, sadly.
Which Need for Speed is better? I might just bite on both for the $1 price.
I'd like to know the same thing. I saw that Undercover had more reviews than Shift, and both have an average of 4 stars, so I went with Undercover. Now I see IGN found the controls better on Shift. I might need to go back and get that as well :(

Buy both. I did. It's $1....

Not sure if you knew, but there's a lite version.

Try the lite version. I'm a fan of the series. I'm still on the fence about it myself, but for $1 it's tempting.
