Iron Man - Movie Thread

Oh, can someone explain to me who thought Gweneth Paltrow was a good pick out of all the chicks they could've gone with? geez...

I JUST GOT HOME FROM THIS AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY OTHER THAN, GO SEE IRON MAN!

I can't wipe the grin off my face. This is a perfect comic book movie. It likes what Batman Begins would be w/o Katie Holmes or the microwave. Or Spiderman 2 w/o Kirsten Dunst. I can't wait to see this again tomorrow.

The role S.H.I.E.L.D plays is awesome. The effects are incredible. Robert Downey Jr. IS Tony Stark. Paltrow is even good as Pepper Potts and Pepper Potts is very well written in the story.

Be sure to stay after the credits, Sam Jackson is inspired casting as Nick Fury. Trust me when you see him it just works.

Oh and new Hulk trailer looks really really good.

I will stay away from discussing the story till later, but its great. The audience laughed and cheered at all the right places. The first time the name SHIELD was said got a huge reaction. Just go see it.

Heck I think even Cheapy and Wombat might like this one.

Just came back from the 11pm showing.

DAMN........ this was a really good movie.

The right amount of comedy, action, story and so on.

Effects were amazing.

The only problem I had was with the pre-midnight crowd. This one guy and his friend were constantly talking and saying out the next scene like
watch that wall before Tony does the first test of the rocket shoes and hits the back wall and so on.

everyone who stayed behind after the credits went nuts
when SLJ aka Nick Fury came on to recruit Stark.

anyways....

worth seeing again next week!

I just saw it and I expected it to be good but this movie is fantastic. A great pop corn flick that I can't even start to find anything negative to bitch about. I was really expecting to hate Paltrow in this movie but even she pulled off her roll.

I think Marvel has the start of a new "spiderman" type franchise here. Also I can't wait to see how it looks in HD. Fantastic, Fantastic movie, it's a must see in the theater.

Wtf is with this nick furry crap?

Are you guys joking? I stayed after the credits and didn't see that. Maybe it's because I was at the pre screening(monday), but I'm totally bummed if thats true.

Oh well, I am seeing it again today.

I did notice a bit of film grain in the cave scenes in the beginning of the film indicating it was shot on traditional film. I saw this on a digital projection screen which looked really great but did bring out some of the flaws.

This is a movie worth getting on Blue Ray!

Just saw the MN showing on an IMAX screen! Great fun, totally awesome effects, nothing looked fake. Loved the damage and dirt on Iron Man's armor. Can't wait for the Blu-ray!

I saw it last night at 11 and all I can say is that the movie is fan fucking tastic. Everyone has to go see it.
And the Ultimate universe sucks.
You think the Ultimates sucks? Might as well never pick up a comic again. That is one of the best series out there.

Anyone catch the major set-up for the villain in the sequel?

The Afghani-type bad guys were called "The Ten Rings," and their "leader" even wore a conspicuous looking silver & black ring on his right hand, clearly foreshadowing the Mandarin.

Yep. :D
Anyone catch the Toby Maguire cameo?
No, where was it? The Stan Lee cameo was pretty obvious, but I didn't catch Tobey Maguire. The movie was awesome though. It was like the superhero version of James Bond. I'll probably end up seeing it again this weekend - it was that good.

Anyone else catch the Tom Morello cameo?

I didn't know whether it was him or not until I checked later.

Ghostface Killah was supposed to make a cameo, too, but they cut him out and just left in his song/video.

I thought the movie was just alright. The first half of the movie was killer and had me on the edge of my seat.

But, by the end of the movie, I was getting sort of bored. Don't exactly know why, but the movie just lost my attention.

Decent sized reaction from the crowd when they first said, "Just call us S.H.I.E.L.D." After credits scene was like a huge nerdgasm. Saw the scene on Youtube beforehand, but watching it on the big screen is a completely different experience (obviously).

And yes,
Mandarin will definitely be around for a future sequel. The Ten Rings organization and Raza fiddling around with that ring on his finger, were an obvious nod to him. He probably was pulling the strings from behind the scenes throughout the entire movie.

Movie gets a 8.5/10 from me.

Seriously DC can't compete with the juggernaut Marvel is producing. I thought nothing was bigger than Superman and Batman, but Marvel has proven it wrong.

Why the hell would you still think nothing is bigger than Superman and Batman? Spider-man has easily blasted both franchises away in terms of earnings.

Yes Financially Spiderman is bigger than Superman and Batman, but Iconically Superman and Batman are bigger...but in this world money wise Spiderman is bigger :|

Saw the movie around noon today and was pleasently surprised.

Unfortunatly I didn't see the Toby Maguire cameo , the Tom Morello cameo or the thing with Sam Jackson at the end. My friends who went with me were in a hurry to haul ass out of the theater (I they were giving me a lift there so I couldn't stay myself).

I saw the movie Wed night in NYC at the Marvel friends and family advance screening. Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada spoke before the showing and mentioned that this is the first movie that is truely Marvel's. It was nice to hear employees of Marvel react to the first SHIELD reference, the first flight and the red and gold armor. Did anyone catch the X-Men reference? Look for a appearance of the Blackbird. Stark Industries built the plane for Xavier. Top 3 favorite super hero movie.

That's really cool, I did not know that. Now I'm even more excited to see this.

just got back from seeing it. was really skeptical, but i'm impressed how they managed to make Iron Man look as cool as he did.

also, DO NOT leave the theatre until after the credits, unless you hate yourself.

Damn, what was after the credits? Anybody got a link to a video or something?

Hooooooooooooooly shit. I just got back from seeing it. I read a ton of comics as a kid, but never Iron Man, so my knowledge was limited. That was one of the best superhero movies I have ever seen, perhaps topped only by Batman Begins. It raped so hard.

Tony Stark returns home and finds Nick Fury inside, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who mentions that there are other superheroes in the universe and that Tony has just become part of it. He then says he wants to speak to him about the Avengers initiative.

Can somone that did see the refrences to other marvel movies and stan lee put in a spoiler about where in the movie they were? I might go see this again. I did see the ending credits so I know about that part.

You didnt see stan? It was kind of obvious.

Stark mistook him for Hugh Hefner when entering the party

A couple are the

The blackbird reference when Tony tests the altitude of the Mark 2 - the Blackbird is the X-men standard jet.
Also the ARC reactor and the use of tridium might seem familiar to Spiderman 2 fans, as it is the same experiment that Doc Ock was performing.
