Is anyone else having problems logging into PSN?

Well, the occasional network problems notwithstanding, at least I'm not paying them $60 a year to be inconvenienced the way I am with the fucking 360. I love that me and my kids can log in to any PS3 (home, grandparents house, etc) and play any of our games at any time. PSN is 100x better than Xbox Live just based on that fact alone. It could be down for a week out of every month and I'd still prefer it ;). The only advantage the 360 has is allowing multiple gamertags to get achievements at the same time while playing coop (in contrast to, say, Portal 2 on the PS3 were my son was playing coop with me but couldn't be logged in to his account while doing so).

Now if you are some single 20-something gamer with just one console then I guess none of that matters to you. But I really hate having to have my profile on a memory stick to switch between our 2 360s and even worse, having the game save moving procedure actually delete the saves from the source system. WTF!? I want backups MS...

Sorry for the off topic ranting - I guess I should report myself ;). But I was just dealing with DRM headache issues on the 360 yesterday and just got finished reading about how Sega XBL games don't even play nice with the restrictive DRM already in place so I thought I'd vent...

Of course they are both better than the Wii DRM "solution".

Sony screwed themselves this gen? Are you obtuse?

If you look back to the "overpriced" PS2, the goal wasn't initially to provide families with affordable gaming machines that satisfy their every needs, it was to win a format war (DVD) and push it to the fore front. We all know what happened to VHS...

Fast forward to the PS3 and you have the SAME thing all over again. Sony pushes new media medium with packing into a "gaming" machine. People buy it. They win hand over fist once again.

Besides that obvious point, if you look at the list of exclusives slated for this year into next it's pretty clear they've left their impression on the market.

Might be OT but :applause::applause::applause:!
I absolutely hate the MS DRM system.

If I play portal 2 and earn trophies right now will they sync with steam and unlock the achievements on steam? This is really the only thing that is holding me back from playing it right now

The odd thing is PS3 can have 2 accounts logged in at once (Resistance 2, Uncharted 3 ) But it seems it's being kept secret or is too much work for developers.

Additionally:

I was amazed I could get into Netflix last night despite not being able to log in. I need Netflix to sleep so I would have been fucked.

Also I like that my PS3 plays movies and is a beast. I dont have a big ass tv, but I did as Sony asked and got a 2nd job to save up for my PS3 at launch (well, just after).

It's a shame the service is down but for a service that is (mostly) free Im not gonna bitch about it.

^^ Thanks for preserving my post since the jokingly reported post was misunderstood by a certain other mod ;).

Ah, screw it... PSN is down - should be back up soon. There's nothing else to say ;).
That's good if it's true.
Though right now, I'm seriously considering getting a 360 because of all the downtime PSN has lately. I'd rather not pay for multiplayer, but hey, what can ya do?
Play the single player mode of a game? Watch tv? Go out for a walk?

There's a lot of things you can do when PSN(or XBL) goes down for a bit that don't involve gaming or making a $200+ purchase just to be able to play multiplayer. Multiplayer is not the be all end all of gaming, unlike what many devs would like you to think.:whistle2:#
Screw awkwardness, I want my Uncharted 2 online deathmatches back. T_T
I never liked the competitive mode in Uncharted 2, as there seemed to be too many 24/7 players that could pick you off with even the weakest weapon from a mile away. Now the co-op mode was fun, IF played with friends.

I know, I know. but if it weren't for this, I would be playing Portal 2 Co-Op right now. I also have a gameshare group waiting to be completed, but we can't purchase the games. =/

I happen to be that type of player. XD

Once back online they will resynch to the cloud.

I'm still on PSN since I didn't log out and I know at least one other CAG is still on (forget the CAG username, but DD83 is his PSN username). We should do something to celebrate.

i notice you keep saying that about uncharted players who are good but doesnt that same thing apply to you and your gta4 playing?

i want to play single player medal of honor Tier 1 Mode, but cuz it involves leaderboards it won't even let me start it. I just beat the game last night and wanted to get through Tier1, but i guess not today...

Just got done playing about half of the BFBC2 single player campaign because of the outage. Wow, all I gotta say is I never knew this game even HAD a single player option. Shaaaa I know right, weird......

I get home with my copy of Portal 2, all stoked to get hooked to Steam so I can get the PC copy and sell the disc on CL and now I'm stuck playing on the PS3 until Sony gets their thumb warm enough. fuck!!!!!!

Was just going to watch a game with MLB.TV on the ps3 and figured maybe I just wasn't getting a good wireless signal. Worked perfectly fine late last night, good to know its not a problem with my router.

Netflix works, just when you sign in and it give you that error message, hit O. Took me like 3 tries for it to bypass the login screen].

For Netflix, instead of pressing O, try to Sign in. The error message will pop up, THEN press O to back out and Netflix should load :)

To each their own, but I found that besides Uncharted 2, Warhawk was a royal pain in the ass to play unless it was with a group of friends due to the same overly dedicated people playing it constantly. The same applied to MAG as well.

Nah. I just play GTA 4/Episodes for screwing around in free mode. I haven't played any competitive modes like TDM in forever. The only fun part of the GTA games this gen are the glitches, like flying under the map and popping up inside buildings you shouldn't be able to get into and of course the swingset glitch when it works right.;)

Even when I was playing the GTA games for the competitive modes, I would just grab a car(or helicopter) and just screw around hoping to get a kill. I'm what you'd call a spray n pray shooter in those games. I'll empty 20 clips into the ground around an enemy so long as at least 5% of the shots hit them and kill them.

On the opposite side of the coin are the folks who pop you in the skull in games like Warhawk/Uncharted 2/MAG with such precision it's frustrating.

i'v played killzone 3, homefront, medal of honor, bulletstorm, etc in the last month but im still just a cod junkie. i vary so much tho in k/d ratio, the other day i was terrible then i went 27/3 the next round. woot

The one night about 2 years ago in GTA IV I just kept spinning around people in a car or on a bike and popping them. I think I ended up with 20 kills and 1-2 deaths in each game for at least an hour.

But otherwise I usually suck.

Netflix loads regardless you signed into PSN or not, but it does tell you to sign into PSN... Like Syngamer said, press O and you can resume the service.

I was just looking at the Twitter comments and there are so many people asking for an extension of their PS+ time because of the outage. Why would they get an extension?

People are stupid.

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

I was too high on 4-20 to get my netflix going on ps3. I know many people were extra pissed just beacuse they couldn't play online on 4-20. I just played some Data East Arcade classics becasue of the stupid message saying i had to log in to watch netflix. Street Slam is more fun than half my ps3 games anyway and i have some good sd netflix in my wii Q. Robotech 1985 and trailer park boys.

My reply to their twitter post of that link was "it seriously took you two days to announce that you turned it off on purpose?"

Womp womp womp, any bets on when PSN will be back up? My guess is Tuesday afternoon right before they update the store.

Meanwhile, time to finish Enslaved and Castle Crashers.

A bet's a bet if there's something to be won.
Wanna make this interesting?
I bet it'll be back on Wednesday.

Truth about Jessica?

I hope it's back tonight :( I need to get some time in. I can't get internet access in my dorm room, so I was going to use the break to kick back and kill some people. So much for that! Would like it to be back up before I head back to school on Monday night!

I won't speculate as to the who, but Sony must have got owned hard for PSN to be down this long. Sounds to me like there was a strong security risk for exposing private information or the like. Whatever happened, it's clear Sony has stirred the pot.
Owned hard? Or taking their sweet time?
Downtime costs money, so that's not even debatable.

I'd feel better about it if they were just honest up front and transparent about what's going on.

First everyone was getting some error code and they didn't say anything. Then they said it was down for maintenance or something right? Then finally I think they said it was an external intrusion and they had taken it down Wednesday night to secure PSN (and now we finally get "Down for maintenance" when trying to log in instead of some cryptic error code).

If they had actually taken it down for maintenance intentionally Wed night, why didn't they say so earlier? And why did we get the error code instead of the message until Fri or Sat? Seems like they're not being truthful with their customers.

Also: fuck You to whoever is responsible. (Anon?)

I personally think they are going to pull something like: "Well it costs us a bunch of money to keep up these new "secure" servers so PSN will now be accessible only with a subscription"
