Thanks for the info. Is their a flea market that you would recommend instead?
Other then that, I haven't been to any others.
I've been up here nine months now and have yet to see a great arcade.
Someone point me in the right direction! Specifics please, general area won't help much. And don't bother sending me to the Golf Mill mall. That arcade should be put out of it's misery.

I've also been to the Nickel City on Waukegan Rd. near the 90 overpass.

Maybe we could get a list going...

I seem to remember one downtown in a little mall, I think it was a Namco joint.
Of course, that was eight years ago...
Theirs a namco arcade in the Harlem and Irving Mall (HIP), they have a decent array of fighters and racing games; also they have tournaments, Diversions is good (I havent been their in a few years), and theirs Gameworks in Schaumburg. :)
"Great" is a difficult term to pin down when arcades are in such a decline already. One that still survives (at least when I last checked) is Diversions, located on McCormick between Devon and Lincoln (across the street from the relatively new Home Depot, and south of the Lincoln Village 1-6 theaters). They may even still have certain token specials or a deal for a few free tokens with a Lincoln Village (Loews) ticket stub. I actually still have some unused tokens in my possession. Perhaps I'll have to go check it out again sometime. Let me know if you need moral support.
Diversions was always pretty run-down with a lot of busted games and a general pungent aroma. I've only been there a couple times and the last trip was over a year ago but driving by recently I noticed that it's been downsized from 2 connecting storefronts to just one. Not sure if this is new management or what but perhaps it's worth another look.

You can also try Dave & Busters - There's at least one in the 'burbs and another in the city located on Clark St just south of Division (say 10-11 hundred N Clark.)

The only other arcades I can think of are Dennis' Place for Games - It's been years since I've been but I recall one at Belmont and Sheffield (right under the L tracks) , one way up on N Clark (between Pratt and Devon - say 6600 N Clark) and I think another on Western across from the huge Waveland Bowling Alley (3700 N Western.)

no kidding. they should just rename that place as "Hole in the wall with a DDR machine."
...one way up on N Clark (between Pratt and Devon - say 6600 N Clark) and I think another on Western across from the huge Waveland Bowling Alley (3700 N Western.)
Interesting, I actually live pretty close to Pratt and Devon (maybe a bit west of Clark, but still). I'll have to see what you're talking about sometime. As for the one across from Waveland on Western, you may be referring to Fun Zone (Games?). Unfortunately, Fun Zone recently shut down and was converted into an auto dealership, like so many other storefronts on Western Avenue. I probably miss that place the most, as I actually went there pretty often during my high school days. (Sniff.) I stopped by the Golf Mill location once in the past year (which was actually my first time there), but some of the more appealing games weren't working too well. Uh, YMMV?

GameWorks (in Woodfield Mall?) is sort of similar to Dave & Buster's, with a bar-like area where you can get some food and drink if you're hungry (though you need to be 21 or over to get in). I always found the games at these places to be very expensive, but my friends and I were captivated by a combo machine at the downtown D&B's that let you choose Street Fighter II: Championship Edition or Hyper Fighting, among other older titles. Better than ESPN Zone (or maybe Disney Quest? Don't know, haven't been to D. Quest), but a "pure," dedicated arcade is definitely preferable in my own mind. Hopefully, Nolan Bushnell's uWink Media Bistro will provide a more entertaining experience for gamers.

Gameworks is actually like 5-10 minutes away from Woodfield Mall, very close, but not in it. You have the option of getting timed cards or credit cards (cards with credits, not the usual). You can also abuse the timed cards since you can you it every minute or something. I like to play DDR or ITG and rack up credits by swiping it after each song.

I usually go when they have the specials like a three hour pass for $20 or something like that. I usually play the linked karts with my family and friends, its fun. Its cool because I get to play alot of Sega arcade machines.

Well, if we want to be really technical, it is part of Woodfield in the sense that it is in the Streets of Woodfield. Not the exact mall, but simply across the street from it. And with my nit pickery complete, I'm happy.

You're right about the name... I just remember an arcade being there on Western. Too bad it closed but Western Ave really needed another sleazy used car dealer.

Google shows 2 Dennis' place for games... 955 W Belmost and 6701 N Clark.

More like a two minuet walk across a street. (Thats why the plaza is called streets of woodfield. That and the design is of a city block.) It really is no more than a walk across a street or a 1 min car ride from the mall. Gameworks is a pretty neat place from what I remember. (I haven't been there since I was in the 7th or 8th grade)

Anyway, I'm a local to the schaumburg/hoffman estates area. :) Although most of the year I live in the city.

Don't know if it's been mentioned-- but I noticed last night that there's another Video Game Exchange store on Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park.
It's right across from Reckless Records, just like the one on broadway, oddly enough.

I'm gonna go check it out on Thursday. I'll post here if I find anything good.

I have never been to any video game exchange, how are they in game selection and prices?
I was wondering if anyone will be attending the Chicago Wizard world convention?
I will be on Friday August 5th hopefully if my buddy can get off work.
I have been going for about 10 years now.
I have never been to any video game exchange, how are they in game selection and prices?
They are still pretty new so they don't have a huge selection, but they carry stuff for every system. their prices are kinda hit or miss, but generally good.

Tried visiting the Wicker Park store but it's closed on sundays. lame. but I scored a $15 mint + complete Mega Man Anniversery for the gamecube at Reckless, which made the trip worth it :)

I was at the Best buy in Norridge (hip mall) and got these guides for a penny and they had at least two more copies of each (I only got one guide of each).

Doom 3
Brothers in Arms
Forza Motorsport
Call of Duty: Finest Hour
madden 05

I'm going up to vacation to Chicago for the week. Any good must-hit cheap ass deals right now?

In case anyone's looking for that Nintendogs deal-- EBX at Old Orchard in Skokie is running it.
I was wondering if anyone will be attending the Chicago Wizard world convention?
I will be there all four days! Weee!
I will be there all four days! Weee!
Well I'm going only on sat and sun, maybe we can meet up? Also RawisJericho, I tried to order some tickets but I wasnt able to obtain any and I aint paying for overprice tickets at stubhub or craigslist.
How much usually is the Wizard world variants ?
Well if you talking about the toys for example. I got last years She-ra toy which I bought it for $20 and sold it for $75 a few weeks later and I got the skeletor toy two years ago in which I bought for $20 and I sold it for $110 :). It all depends on the toy and regarding comics that I'm not sure about.

Also I got an extra strategy guide of each, if any one is interested in trading.

Forza Motorsport
Doom 3
call of duty
Brothers In Arms
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Jak 3
NFSU2

is Wizards an acrion figure show? when and where?

and Ryosnk-- were those figures sealed in boxes or loose? I used to have almost every he-man. most of them perished under a magnifying glass or were covered in gas then set on fire

Wizard World a Comic convention, similair to the San Diego Comic-con.
It has many comic book vendors as well as action figure vendors.
Special guest of honor this year is Frank Miller.
Also some of the major distributors have exclusive figures and comics only avialble at the show.

It takes place this weekend 5-7th, addmission is $25 a day or $50 for all three days. It is at the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center in Rosemont (Rosemont Convention Center).

I will be attenting the show tomorrow.

No, I was Asking about comics because I want any Marvel comic variant sold there.

I just called gamecrazy to see if they had some games that I was looking for and the employee informs me that they have a these pormotions buy three used games for $30 (games must be $14.99 or less) and buy two new games and get one free (on all systems). :)

I must once again call upon my fellow CAG's for information.
Could you be so kind to give me addresses to some fabulous game stores (preferably with old school stuff, but any store you find to be quality will do) and any import shops you are aware of (Japanese toys and games, etc.) ?

I should note I've been to the Japanese Toys and Gifts near Schaumburg on Golf Rd.

Thanks in advance!

Here is a good place with a bunch of oldies and newer games. The prices are decent but this place is the only one that I know of that still carry sms, turbo-16, genesis. vectrex, etc games.

The store is called

VideoGames Etc.
4351 N. Harlem

Another great store, small, but great, they mainly do customizations for any systems, but they have lots of old games in there aswell as some imports.

Gamerz Garage
6128 Cass Ave
Westmont, IL 60559

Even if you don't buy anything its still cool to see what they can do to the systems.

Is there anything in particular you're looking for? I have quite an extensive collection of Marvel comics.

I looking for any Marvel Variants (ie. X-Men, New Avengers) sold at Wizard World last week.

Sorry Weapon, nothing new in my collection. Think my run of Uncanny X-men (original series) starts somewhere around 127 and lasts through around 330 or so. I have a pretty extensive collection of Marvel comics from that time. Let me know if you're ever interested in any of it. Just been sitting in my garage for years now.

Cool. I found this thread by searching for "Microcenter".

Didn't want to create a new thread in the deals section for relatively insignificant deals...

Stopped at MicroCenter on Elston yesterday and I remember seeing these deals:

PC Doom3 $19.99
PC original Splinter Cell $7.99

and the kicker, at least 30 copies of Deathtrap Dungeon by Eidos for the PC from way back in 1998 going for 3.99 apiece. I don't think they'd sell at .99 a copy...

Does that Japanese toys and gifts shop have a good selection? toys, PS2 games, stuff like that?

They have a fantastic selection of toys and models, a plethora of wall scrolls and posters, a smattering of music CD's and a select few games.

And one BeatMania IIDX controller for $440. :applause:

Nah, it's the keyboard/turn-table game. (Which you can play in all it's ear-drum bursting glory at Nickel City in Deerfield.)

Speaking of arcades, I hit the Harlem-Irving Plaza and got my classically-trained groove on with the Percussion Master machine. Scored a perfect 299 on the normal View to a Kill. Those seven years of college paid off!
Fabulous selection of fighters there. And a civic-noise-ordinance-violating In The Groove 2, complete with rabid fanboys capable of scoring an 800+ combo.

Just up the street at Videogames, Etc. I scored a copy of Ninja Gaiden III for the Lynx, and my friend bagged a copy of Time Gal for the Sega CD, which pretty much guarantees I'll be going there every other week.

You can see all the stuff we bought (also hit some TRU's) here.

Hey, how much did time gal and ninja gaiden 3 go for at that place?

Time Gal was $15. No manual and the box was abused, but the disk was immaculate.
Ninja Gaiden III was labeled $6.99 on the box, but sold for $5.00. I've since noticed that it says Centipede on my receipt. Oops.

Anyone looking for a Neo Geo AES or a top-loading NES should head straight there.
And be ready to shell out the $$$ ($235 and $105 respectively)

Would anyone know if CompUSA is still having the buy one game get the other free sale? Or if any game sale is going on?

I was at the Village Crossing (Niles) store 'bout two weeks ago and I didn't see anything obvious.

edit: scratch that. They did have bins for used console games, BOGO on the cheaper. I passed on Shadow Hearts ($30), and got a copy of it complete from Hollywood Video yesterday for $10.

edit2: I don't remember exactly what they had, except that there were more ps2 games than xbox, and I got the impression that CompUSA isn't doing so well as a chain.

The one in Rogers Park at Howard & Clark. It's a rental copy with a big ol' sticker covering the whole disc, but I'm a gamer, not a reseller or hoarder. They didn't have much else of interest to me, but I'm mostly into RPGs.
