Hello, I am a Chicago guy so I would like to start a Chicago thread so maybe we can help each other out by letting Chicago area cheapasses find cheap deals.

nice. we need to kick it into gear though. more swap meets, tourneys, etc. in fact, how's this:

swap meet/gaming at my place, montrose and lincoln, on sunday, sep. 4th @ 7:30 p.m.

who's in? i can change the date if necessary, just thought i'd throw that out there. word.

Yay Chicago.

I hit a few stores today after work: Music Recyclery and FYE in the HIP, Videogames Etc, and the Disc Recyclery and Gamestop a bit further N on Harlem. Nothing doing for me.
The HIP MR had some crazy-ass prices, though on several used PS1 games: Tales of Destiny, Lunar, and DDR Konamix (non GH) all going for at least $75. What. The. fuck. I have a nonGH copy of Konamix I bought a while back, but the eBay value is nowhere near that.
Videogames Etc felt like a museum, and it had quite an odor.

Also, it seems like the past 7-8 stores I've been to are all out of pre-viewed Kill Bill vol 1s.

re: swapmeet, Lincoln & Montrose is near Sulzer library and Welles Park, right? Man, those hot dogs from the Hot Dog Lady...
Count me in. I'm sure I can dig up some games to trade.
What'll we be playing?
i figure the usual halo 2, maybe some mario kart if we can get the right equipment for it. i'm open to whatever else - hell, i'd try 8-player nba nk5. and yeah, it's right where you described by the library, though i'm not familiar with said hot dog lady. one thing i ask, assuming the regular chicago threaders are down for this - you guys PM anyone from the board that you know if from chicago or nearby. i'll host it, you get the people.

I'm in, can we try for a six o'clock start? Also would it be alright if I can bring my brother(he also has a few games to trade)?

We could go all out on this and ask Cheapy to post it on the main page. Of course, that'd probably mean a change of venue if 200 people suddenly show up...
brother is cool, though it has to be 7:30 as i only get home at like 7 from work. will you be able to PM some people ryo?
Its cool with the 7:30 start and I send out a few email to people regarding the swap/meet up.

I will try and make it if work doesn't end up needing me, but I was wondering if you guys knew of any import stores around the Chicago area.

Anyone in either the southwestern 'burbs (Naperville area) or northern 'burbs (Schaumburg area) ever see Fire Emblem for GBA in stock anywhere?

Price is irrelevant, retail or less. At this point in time, I'm just trying to score a new copy.

Appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Can't make it-- school the next morning, homework to do that night. I'll be lucky if I get out at all this semester.

Wish I could make it but it's bad timing right now. I have 3 projects that I've got to take care of. I wish I could go though.:cry:

Damn, I wish I could attend but I'm at college and am pretty busy. (And quite a bit of a distance away...) Have fun, CAG!

I'll be there. Thanks for the PMs, ryo and rocksolid. I don't know if I'll have much to trade (a complete copy of Breakdown, anyone?), but I'll be there. Specific address and phone number via e-mail/PM, I suppose?

Say, I just called Wal-Mart up in Skokie to see if any Mario DS's were left, but I was quoted the $149.99 price. Anyone have any luck with a bundled set at $129.99? I'm aware of the accessory set with Spider-Man (2), but that just doesn't interest me. Yeah, I know I'm grasping at straws this late after the drop, but I figure that it couldn't hurt to ask. Let me know.
so...who's coming?
Well I will and my bro and possible (if its alright with you) the guy who bought your suikoden 2 from you at the last meet up.

yeah that's cool. can you guys bring an xbox, some controllers and halo? i have two tvs here, so it would be nice for some 8-player. hopefully more people are coming...

So far how many people you got coming rocksolidaudio? If its less then you expect you can change the date its all good.

yeah, so far it seems to be just you, me, and possibly flybrione and our respective friends. i'd say unless we're going to have at least six CAGs it's not really worth it, and might as well wait for a better weekend...

I was at my local target(brickyard) and they had these on clearance.

gamecube wavebird comtroller $14.98 (8 left)
viewtiful joe 2 (gamecube) for $12 (2 left)
ps2 ghost in the shell $10 (3 left)
gba link cables $3 (2 left)
gba star wars $14 (2 left)
xbox dirt motorcyle game $5 (alot)
a few sport psone games -madden-baseball for $5 (few left)

For those in the market for a new, small cheap tv w/ remote and A/V jacks, Chicagoland Target stores have this 13" Daewoo:
http://tinyurl.com/7k2ys
on clearance for $47.7x

model # (or Target SKU or whatever) is 008080713

Bought one up from the Target on Golf/Milwaukee in Niles today, where I also picked up a new copy of Far Cry for PC for $10.

Hey, if any Chicago folk see any good Labor Day deals going down at local area B&M, post 'em here. I be lookin', and I'll post anything interesting.

well, unless we suddenly get a lot more attendees i guess i'm gonna call off sunday. it's just not really worth the organization and such for three or four of us to get together. i know there are a ton more chicago CAGs; maybe i just need to plan it way in advance next time...

It is a holiday weekend rocksolidaudio. People either have to work or spend time with family. I'm sure with a little more time you could get another great turnout.

Thats cool rocksolidaudio, so when ever you want to do this again just go ahead and post. :).

Darn! And here I was gonna bring all those PS1 shooters you wanted rocksolidaudio. Guess I'll just hold on to em for a few more months :)

Is he joking? hehe okay see you later. (Family Guy reference I'm sure ryosnk will get.)

I have little time on my hands as it is, so i'm pretty hit or miss with meet ups.

Btw, nobody go to music recyclery, it's not even worth it. Unless, of course, you want a used Saturn for 83.00 :p

Yeah, I went to a local best buy to try to get some penny guides and they had mostly all the guides mentioned at the penny guide thread except for GOW. I asked one of the employees and he said that they have a few GOW guides that are to be returned. I asked why not this and he said he doesnt know and I tried to have him get me one but he didnt want to get in trouble.

So if anyone has an extra GOW guide, I would be interested.

Lol music recyclery is a joke, I think they were asking like $25 for a old school gameboy.... Btw I had no idea GOW was pennied out, what are the other new pennied out guides?

Just felt like mentioning that listening to the traffic report this morning on CPR/NPR 91.5 this morning, I heard that the sponsor was EBGames (or ebgames.com). I thought that was a little strange.

where are all the Dreamcast and Snes games on the north side? My gamecrazy is picked clean

Which gamecrazy did you go too? And where within the northside are you located at?

Des Plaines and Wilmette, but I'm usually hanging around the Northwest burbs, Wicker park, the mag mile or in Evanston.

Actually, I just stopped by the Evanston EB and snagged SFA3 for the 'cast and was pleasantly surprized to meet Nick :)

Heh, does Nick still have that beard? Well if you are around the golf mill gamecrazy they have a decent selection of dc, snes, and genny games.

If you want write down a list of what your looking for and when I go to any of my local gc's I will see if they have what your looking for and the price for it.

Heh, maybe he had a goatee, or just a lot of stubble, no full beard that I remember.
the golf mill gc is in des plaines (or is that technically Niles?) I was in there today and there was a depressing number of DC games on the shelf.

If you come across a copy of Cannon Spike, lemme know! I'll do the same if there's anything ya need :)
Nah, it's the keyboard/turn-table game. (Which you can play in all it's ear-drum bursting glory at Nickel City in Deerfield.)

Speaking of arcades, I hit the Harlem-Irving Plaza and got my classically-trained groove on with the Percussion Master machine. Scored a perfect 299 on the normal View to a Kill. Those seven years of college paid off!
Fabulous selection of fighters there. And a civic-noise-ordinance-violating In The Groove 2, complete with rabid fanboys capable of scoring an 800+ combo.

Just up the street at Videogames, Etc. I scored a copy of Ninja Gaiden III for the Lynx, and my friend bagged a copy of Time Gal for the Sega CD, which pretty much guarantees I'll be going there every other week.

You can see all the stuff we bought (also hit some TRU's) here.
Was the friend you were shopping with Andy, by chance?

hey this thread is awesome, just learned about it in a pm. i should visit the site more :)

well, in skokie, inthe "Village Crossing" center in Niles, there's a store called Disc Replay. Probably already mentioned, but if not, thats a store that has pretty good deals on games most of the time, and keep the discs in good condition.

bah, chicago best buys suck. just hit two today to price-match tomorrow - the clark/diversey one had one copy of Ys, and literally nothing else, the elston one had a couple of zoo keepers, two copies of Ys, and i snagged the last paper mario. if anyone finds an otogi 2, harvest moon, mr. driller or bards tale i would love one. mostly otogi 2. thanks.

Have any of you guys seen BBA's for GC at suburban Chicago Targets? I want to pick up one of these to play some PSO before they take down the servers. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any at the Targets I checked (Glendale Heights and St. Charles). I'm guessing most have been snagged by now around the area, but if anyone has seen some - it would be great to know. Hopefully, the distance needed to travel doesn't negate any kind of deal I would get on the BBA.
