Home of the 2009-2010 stanley cup champions - chicago blackhawks!

Hello, I am a Chicago guy so I would like to start a Chicago thread so maybe we can help each other out by letting Chicago area cheapasses find cheap deals.

Yes, and a Merry Christmas from me (now that it's officially here Central Time)!
Don't suppose any of ya'll have spotted an 8800 GT 512mb vid card at best buys? Got me some gift cards that I need to burn
I'll keep an eye out for you today. I gotta go out and try to find a copy of Persona 3. I tried to see how much Amazon has it and it's already close to $90 there ???

Why is persona 3 selling so high? Is it banned or is it because it is hard to find in general?

Not too big of an initial print - but if the current trends w/ jrpg's hold - they'll be an eventual reprint so don't go buying it for over MSRP =)

And thanks! (for looking out for 8800gt) =)

The first Best Buy I went to didn't have the card. (Sorry.) And didn't have Persona 3. A nice guy checked the region's inventory and found out the Deerfield, IL BB had 4 copies (everyone else had 0 cuz the game is discontinued). I called the Deerfield store but they couldn't find any copies of the game. I took a chance and drove to Fry's, which had 2 left. Now they don't have any left ;)

The Best Buy store at the HiP apparently has phased out their clearance shelves. I went there looking for KoF and NGBC, and they didn't have either. :/

Just so people know.

Well that blows.

I live in Buffalo Grove and have not been able to find any Elite or Pro 360's for sale at CC. I have a GC to purchase one. Anyone work at one and knows when M$ is shipping more?

Oh and Happy New Year!

The CC in Norridge Commons [which is frighteningly close to Chicago] has a Bullet Witch left, and a Chromehounds. I didn't pick Chromehounds up because I'm throwing Bullet Witch onto my backlog, as-is. Still not done with Mass Effect, I had to take a break from it to play Perfect Dark [yes, I have great taste like that, what can I say?].

Anyone spot a 60gb PS3 at a BestBuy? I've checked in bucktown, they had them for the longest time but not anymore. I've got quite a few gift cards to use there.

Since HD DVD seems to be on it's last legs, I've been thinking about getting a PS3, but I'd rather have a 60 GB model. I'd be interesting if there are any stores that still have them new.

I think we're probably SOL. I checked the online inventory for the 80gb versions and only the store in Evanston had them. So it stands to reason they would also be out of 60s.

Just a heads up guys. The CC at the HIP had several Bullet Witches, one or two Ninety Niights or whatever, lots of Children of Mana, Elite Beat Agents, and several of that 360 game listed in the add (starts with an S, game by Square Enix). The also had College Hoops 2k7 and NBA 07 for PS3.
Hey guys...does anyone know if the Rax restaurant in Joliet is still open? Google shows that it is, but I wanted to get a local confirmation. Thanks!
Unless there's someone who lives near or commutes by there (or even frequents the restaurant), it might be best to just give them a call. You'll probably get an answer a lot faster that way. Thanks for setting up the BCS Championship Game contest, though!

See, the reason that I ask is because of this thread:

I would call, but I'm at work right now...no long distance calls (I live in Indiana) and I'll probably forget about it when I get home!

I think the only place you're going to find a new 60GB model is perhaps at Kmart/Sears/FYE or some other store where games/electronics isn't the focus.

I saw a couple 60gb models at the Kmart on Elston just before X-mas - no idea if they're still there.

Thanks but I guess I was too late. I just came back from that location and the only thing they had that interested me was Doom 3 for Xbox. I passed on it.

Another Heads up guys. the BB on N Clark by the corner of Clark and Diversey has a TON of older generation XBOX and PS2 and PSP titles running between $9.99 and $4.99.

Anyone want me to check anything for them?

That sucks. Must have been picked Sunday. And the Touhy CC always sucks big balls. Every time there is a new drop it's picked clean like the first day.

Yo Trickster if ya could, try to remember what PSP games are there. Oh, and Urban Chaos for XBOX. Thanks.

CAG 79 I'm going to check that out, thanks for that also. I just checked my email and got that too.

there's a Gamestop right in Evanston, in case you haven't found it yet. It's across from the Century theater and Border's. Not sure about other shops, though.

Welcome to Chicago!

hey man,

thanks for the welcome...yea, i know about that store. I even work at the new gamestop that opened up a few months back on North Broadway in the Sun Plaza...im trying to locate good independent stores with old stuff(ps1, snes, etc) that might have some old guides as well...anyone have any reccommendations?

I know this seems like a long shot, but have you checked any pawn shops or goodwill like places? I live in Andersonvill, just south of Evanston and a second hand shop called the Brown Elephant has some good stuff like that sometimes.

Welcome to the area!

I'm not exactly sure where the Sun Plaza is. Is it accross from the Uptown Post Office (just off the Lawrence stop)? Anyway if you're around there you can check out the Salvation army south of Montrose on Broadway or the Unique thrift store north of Montrose on Sheridan. I've seen some games in both of those on a couple of occasions.

Has anyone got an email back from that PS3 focus group? I sent them an email the day I got it but I haven't had a response yet.

If anyone happens to be in a radioshack in the Chicago City area (I only commute through CTA) and sees their playstation 2 to usb adapter please pm or reply in the thread. Thanks.

There are several RadioShacks by where I live and none have the adapter.

Are you saying that you know a RadioShack that has them in stock but you can't get to it?

I know that Radioshack used to carry them but I believe they were discontinued in the later half of last year. I would assume that there's one or two hanging around on a rack or in a clearance bin since Radioshack wouldn't be the first place I would look for that type of adapter. The big problem is that it's actually a Radioshack brand.
Holy crap it's cold today.

And holy crap my school's on fire (UIC College of Pharmacy)
Yup, some suspect arson since it happened when nobody should have been in the building.

The best buy in skokie has a bin with games like DDR w/mat (x360) which is $60 before discount and few other no so good games for 15% off.

I went to the Micro Center on Elston today and noticed they now have a seperate gaming section. Not sure if they'll start discounting games, but it's worth a note. I rarely see deals posted in the forums from Micro Center.
Maybe now with the new section they'll get a little more agressive with their pricing.

They've had that setup at MicroCenter for a while now, but I wouldn't count on them having any deals...pretty stingy. Honestly the only time I see any really good deals in Chicago is when K-mart or Target does something sneaky and lowers the price of a game without putting it in the ad today.

Anyone spot Yakuza at a circuit city or happen to grab an extra one? I know it's kind of late but I haven't made the rounds to check any others besides the North & Clybourn store.
