The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Pretty good, I think it's about what I'd expected. The only other Anderson film I've seen is Tenenbaums, but since I loved that one, I figured that I would enjoy this one as well. And, while I did enjoy it, it wasn't as good as Tenenbaums. I think the biggest problems seemed to be with the story, which seemed a bit half hazard to me; it felt at times to be more a bunch of loosely related scenes tied together than a strong narrative moving the film along. The other thing that bothered me was the emotional hollowness of Life, after the wonderful emotional rollercoaster of Tenenbaums, the characters in Life just seem so much more flat, and hard to get really involved in. There were still parts that touched the same level as Tenenbaums (namely the sub bit at the end, although I have a sneaking suspicion that the Sigur Ros song had something to do with what I was feeling during that scene

), but I found it lacking overall. Still, even with those problems, I thought it was a good film, with some of the great stylistic touches that made Tenenbaums so endearing, and a great Bowie soundtrack. Definitely worth checking out if you're interested, I recommend it, just don't expect it to be as good as Anderson's past work.
Damn, that ended up being longer than I expected, maybe it's time I got my own movie blog.
