I was over at TSS and read this articleL
http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/2009/08/slaughterhouse-sells-18000-records about them only selling 18,000 even though they had a strong internet buzz. I have always felt the way that this article says and that is the reason why hip-hop or music in general is because of the people that download the album instead of purchasing it. I know the argument of previewing before you buy it but if you listen it more than once without deleting it or buying then how do the artist keep making music. I mean I haven't heard the Slaughterhouse record but still I would pick it up if I had the money or my emusic account still.
I am not saying that I am perfect and have probably downloaded a mixtape that wasn't approved or promoted by an artist but if I like the music I try to eventually buy their retail or digital copies.
What do you guys think?
Sometimes, I'll buy an album to support the artist....no matter how garbage it is.
WHY? Because I feel that my purchase is telling the label that someone still likes that artist. Or, that someone supports that artist.
If I liked that album (or the artists), I would have bought it. I always get offended when people have albums on their computers/mp3 players and they rave about them...but they don't "own" 'em.
...Then again, I also get offended when labels still try to push 15 dollar albums down my throat from 15 years ago. Come on....those discs have to be paid for by now. The engineers probably forgot they even mixed it by now! The cover artist is probably working at wal-mart now. Give us a break, make old ass albums cheap as

. I'm talking 5 dollar range.
