It's Bigger than "The Hip-Hop Thread"

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Why Budden went the Peres Hilton bitch route with the video is beyond me. He gets absolutely no sympathy from me. This shit is hilarious.

Budden is a total never was... I don't know why he has the little following he does.

Slaughterhouse probably would have been better without him.

Speaking on Raekwon, he has just turned what should have been a dope album into a total clusterfuck of I don't know what.

Unfortunately, Raekwon seems to hate his American fanbase lol. He confirmed on Twitter that there will be 2 different tracklistings for the album. The differences are as follows...

1. Blue Raspberry added to Have Mercy (US Ver) [unknown if shes on UK Ver]
2. Busta Rhymes cut from Catalina, replaced with Lyfe Jennings (US Ver) [unknown if both will appear on UK Ver]
3. Busta Rhymes still on Catalina (UK Ver) [unknown if Lyfe will appear like on US Ver]
4. South Star feat Poppa Wu track added (US Ver)
5. South Star will not appear on (UK Ver)
6. Cut tracks from (US Ver) includes..The Jihad [Necro], Criminology Part 2 [BT & RZA], Rockstars & Smoking Barrels [RZA] & Walk Wit Me [Scram Jones]
7. n*gga Me (UK Ver) and About Me (US Ver) hopefully same track on both releases
8. Black Mozart (US Ver) and Godfather (UK Ver) hopefully same track on both releases
9. Broken Safety (US Ver) and 40 Deuce (UK Ver) hopefully same track on both releases
10. Ghostface verse added to Mean Streets (US Ver)
11. No Ghostface on Mean Streets (UK Ver)

The ordering is very different. Last songs on both are (Ason Jones on UK) & (South Star on US)

Man how can Rae cut off Criminology Part II ! I love that beat. Hopefully the changes are not that drastic. It's also a shame the they would sub lyfe for busta.

I'm just gonna get the UK version. G-Hide is dope, how could he cut that?

Joey is aight he just run his mouth waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. SlaughterHouse as a group is dope as fuck. Damn it i'm gonna have to get the uk version of OB4CL2. I was really looking forward to that album. On a side note anybody like Tech N9ne i been banging the Sickology 101 album all weekend.

Okay guys, I need some Living Legends recommendations. I've heard a lot of their solo stuff, but only Legendary Music Vol. 1 as far as group stuff. What other albums should I check out?

main three albums that are worth listening to are:

Angelz Wit Dirty Faces
Almost Famous
Classic

I was over at TSS and read this articleL http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/2009/08/slaughterhouse-sells-18000-records about them only selling 18,000 even though they had a strong internet buzz. I have always felt the way that this article says and that is the reason why hip-hop or music in general is because of the people that download the album instead of purchasing it. I know the argument of previewing before you buy it but if you listen it more than once without deleting it or buying then how do the artist keep making music. I mean I haven't heard the Slaughterhouse record but still I would pick it up if I had the money or my emusic account still.

I am not saying that I am perfect and have probably downloaded a mixtape that wasn't approved or promoted by an artist but if I like the music I try to eventually buy their retail or digital copies.

What do you guys think?

didn't download it or buy it (just not interested in it) but this really doesn't surprise me. If your not a big name or pitchfork's new douche bag of the week, file sharing hurts your standing with the labels. The artists might make it up in merch and ticket sales (and even then, the data is inconclusive on if its true or not) but that doesn't really help the label. And whether or not you like labels in general, they are an important cog in the music machine.

I say that as someone who downloads quite a bit of stuff but I also buy a lot of stuff (though I have to admit that I do download more than I buy). I like trading music (been doing it a lot longer than the internet has been around) but people do have to get rid of the entitlement mentality and realize that it is a two way street. If you don't support the music that you like, don't be surprised that it disappears.

Honestly? fuck them... if the album was any good, people would go support it regardless... the fact is, there is one good single on there, and nothing else very interesting, creative, or dope.

You're also talking about 4 MC's that rarely sell anything... the exception being when Buddens was backed by Def Jam, and even that album undersold for the era it was released in.

I preview stuff I am on the fence about, and if I dig it, I definitely pick it up... I would say I buy 80 CDs a year, if not more. I can't be "guessing" on shit that ends up sucking.

There are a lot of artists that are auto-buys for me, but some fall out of my favor and I check it out first.

I downloaded u-god's dopium off a torrent jus coz it's u-god and nobody likes u-god.

but then I actually listened to that record a lot, it's pretty good.

but I have no desire to go out and buy the record or redownload it off amazon/emusic... I should feel bad lol

jus copped Slaughterhouse off emusic tho despite all the bad stuff said about it jus coz I like Royce...

I sure dont like Joell Ortiz tho...

I was just using Slaughterhouse as an example but take them out and put in a cd like Madvillain that almost everyone and their grandma likes and it still didn't do great numbers like expect. If a million people that probably downloaded illegally would have bought it then we could have had Madvillain 2 by now. Also more emcees/producers would consider doing this.

Madvillain has sold over 120,000 copies... so I would say in today's market, on Stones Throw, that's pretty damn good.

But you are right, there should be 2 underground records to go platinum by now and haven't because of downloading and sharing burned copies... Madvillain and Dr. Octagon.
But you are right, there should be 2 underground records to go platinum by now and haven't because of downloading and sharing burned copies... Madvillain and Dr. Octagon.
Yeah, an underground record selling a million copies is never going to happen. Hell, maybe 1% of Pitchfork's new flavor of the day gets that (and that percentage I think is being generous). Underground by its definition is a small market because as soon as you sell more than say 100k or so records, you're not really underground anymore but rather in that horrible spot of being stuck in the middle between underground and top 40. And if you do end up seeing an undergound hip hop rapper/group getting a platinum record, you can bet your ass they they filled the record with top 20 talent...in other words, (though I really do hate the term) selling out. And at that point they are not underground.

I know I plug the shit out of my site, but I figured some people would appreciate the project we just posted so please listen to the mixtape (http://bit.ly/RJ2Ml) featuring Blu, Sene, Keelay & Zaire, IMAKEMADBEATS, K-Murdock, Panacea, Jern Eye, Buff1, + MORE!

It's all new, all exclusive tracks you've never heard before. Enjoy :).

Sometimes, I'll buy an album to support the artist....no matter how garbage it is.

WHY? Because I feel that my purchase is telling the label that someone still likes that artist. Or, that someone supports that artist.

If I liked that album (or the artists), I would have bought it. I always get offended when people have albums on their computers/mp3 players and they rave about them...but they don't "own" 'em.

...Then again, I also get offended when labels still try to push 15 dollar albums down my throat from 15 years ago. Come on....those discs have to be paid for by now. The engineers probably forgot they even mixed it by now! The cover artist is probably working at wal-mart now. Give us a break, make old ass albums cheap as fuck. I'm talking 5 dollar range.

I download and buy albums(of artists i want to support). I can't blame downloading alone for the current trend of albums not being bought though. Its bigger forces at work than just that. On a side note GO BUY THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's my Album of the year so far.
I downloaded it to see if it was good... it's not that good. Definitely not worth my money.
That's what I did and how I felt. I was so disappointed.

Well, it still is more successful than Del's Eleventh Hour, which sold around 5,000 copies in its first week and probably less than 18,000 total. I would say that downloads affected that one for sure as most Del fans downloaded it and were disappointed so they didn't buy it.

^ but see, I'm a longtime Del fan, so I bought it regardless.

but it wasn't that good. If I checked it out before I bought it as a casual fan, I wou;dn't have picked it up.

Now all we need is a release date. Soooooo excited!

Well, the BP3 and OBFCL2 leaked; I listened to both. OBFCL2 is album of the year so far(IMO). It's a shame that some of the songs got cut and rearranged(UK version has 2 bonus tracks, other wise it's the same),I don't like the Dr. Dre cuts too much,(kiss the ring is a great way to end the album!) but is is a certified wu banger!

The BP3 on the other hand, I am not liking it too much. I enjoyed D.O.A., and about 2-3 others and that's it.

I was disappointed with BP3, OBFCL2 I'm buying Tuesday.

I agree almost completely.

BP3 is half-great, half-average/bad.

OB4CL2, on the other hand, was instantly insane when I listened earlier today.

daaaaamn, cuban linx next week and new MOP week after?!?! sounds good.

I was listening to Blaq Poet - Blaqprint.

man, DJ Premier is seriously my favorite producer ever, so why the hell does an album where he does 13/15 tracks suck so much?!?!

seriously, the records maintains a constant just above average quality thruout the whole thing... it's like the whole album is a press release for Primo to tell the world how old he is.

he shoulda taken the NYGz route and put all his effort into like 3 or 4 bangers instead of doing 90% of the album with his table scraps.

at least my favorite west coast producer, DJ Quik, was able to make BlaqKout album of the year levels of hotness.

Banging BP3 right now i'm feeling the song with Jeezy and the other one with Alicia Keys:drool:. My song of the week is Forever fast forward to Eminem's Verse :hot:.
Damn OBFCL2 Leaked I'm still buying that on tuesday.

I'm gonna grab BP3 just cause I have every other Jay-Z album... it seems to be more "Kingdom Come" than "American Gangster"... bummer.

OB4CL2 it sounds like is the best shit since "Supreme Clientele".. real excited to hear it. Gonna wait til Tuesday since I usually do. Glad to see Gihad was kept on it. Hopefully people support it, but I doubt it.
I may be the only Strong Arm Steady fan around here, but I know I'm not the only Madlib fan.

Also looking forward to that OJ Simpson project.
dood I hella love Strong Arm Steady, I jus wish Krondon didnt hog the mic all day.

I wanna hear more Mitchy Slick! KLAK KLAK KLAK KLAK KLAK!!

Phil Da Agony's album released this year is pretty good btw, I still play it regularly.

as usual Phila da ag style I have no idea what he is rapping about, but he still makes good music.

I agree with this statement.

Gihad, is a great song. Ghost rips it, cracks me up! I hope it won't be another slaughterhouse thing where there is all this hype and they drop a dud on soundscan. I think that even with the leak the album is too good not to buy. I wonder if there will be any bonuses anywhere?
