THQ UDraw tablet/software bundle sold only 26k in January after shipping 1.2M units to retailers in last two months of 2010.

Top selling game of Jan. 2010 was NSMB Wii with 650k sales.

Dance Central is first Kinect game to make top 10.
1.2M copies of Dance Central sold, with 1M of those coming in Nov./Dec. 2010.
Kinect install base is 3M in US.

Software sales weren't that bad in Janurary. 22 different games sold at least 100k copies this Jan. vs. only 18 last year, but software revenue was down 5%.

It's good to see Dead Space 2 in the top 5. Many people got to experience that game which is great. I'm really glad to see DCUO in the top 10 though. Nobody was sure what numbers it'd do and it is a really risky venture. Hopefully it'll continue to do well.

Nice numbers for Dead Space considering it came out January 25. Glad it sold so well, the $39.99 price on Amazon 2 weeks after release made me think it tanked. =/
A very bad month for game sales.
It wasn't that bad. Sales were actually a little better than expected. The only big disappointment was THQ's uDraw number.

America's fascination with crummy dancing games is puzzling to me (I'm american btw). I get fitness since everyone's so damn fat and think a stupid shovelware game will make them lose weight, just like their stupid shake weight or magic fat burning pill...but I just don't get the whole dancing thing.

Either way it should stop and they should buy better games. Dead Space needs more sales.

I'd think January usually is. Not much new coming out usually and people are busy playing all the games they got for Xmas.
it looks like LBP 2 was a disappointment. i bet sony was thinking grand slam and all they did was double?
Should have been released around Christmas. Who is excited about buying new games in freaking January?

LBP1 released in the fall I believe and it didn't really do that well. You can sell a game any month of the year if it's appealing enough. Red Dead was released in May and sold like 7 million, GTA 4 was April (as was smash bros brawl I believe). Bad Company 2 sold 5+ million and that was a March release.

The problem is not many people are interested in LBP, and after playing both I certainly understand why. It's a very impressive game from a technical standpoint, but the actual game is boring as hell.

Gamasutra with another update today:

That is, of course, your opinion - I happen to have been playing it a ton the last month and think it is pretty great. It certainly has more appeal to me than Dead-Whatever-Its-Called...

But I don't think you can extrapolate "not many people are interested in LBP" from the fact that you didn't like it.

Anyway, funny thing about the udraw tablet: I bought it before Christmas as a gift for the kids when Amazon had the free Pictionary game with the tablet purchase. I had a feeling it would become dirt cheap soon enough (it hasn't yet but if the 1.2 million shipped and 26k sold in January is true it will be soon enough) but it was easy enough to buy with that deal as a surprise gift. We finally just got around to playing it 2 days ago. We've had some fun with Pictionary. But besides that there isn't much out for it.

Yeah I think Gamestop has the same promotion currently for the UDraw. It's kinda hard to expect people to buy an expensive periphial when there's only 2 games for it, Wii balance board being the exception.

Is there a time period where they stop letting games count on the top 10 now? Shouldn't New SMB Wii be number 2 or 3? Seems odd that that isn't on, but Black Ops and NBA 2k11 are.

NSMB Wii was the top seller for LAST year not this year. It was listed just to compare the sales of last years top Jan title vs this years.
