Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Only seen the anime, didn't read the manga. I assume things didn't work out?
Very open ended ending. Zombie girl of course survives....last part is she eating his heart. Than we kind of flash forward to many years later or something and he sees her again or something and the extra chapter with older main zombie girl and i believe Wankos and the main guy's children. Who knows it's very open ended and was confusing.

Wait what?! So let me get this straight, So the Zombie girl and main dude hook up. She has kids. Eats the main characters heart so she can live and he becomes a zombie? And years latter they may/may not see each other again.

Or something like that?

They never say whose kids they are but they look a lot like Wanko and the main guys. Main zombie girl does meet him again after eating his heart and becoming human in mind at least. He looks human when they meet up again. The extra chapter isn't explained as well other than the main zombie girl is still alive. Terrible ending overall after being a decent manga series.

Favorite zombie girl is still the one from Sankarea. Course that ending....oh that ending...
The mangaka totally did not give a fuq with that manga epilogue just as much as the mangaka for Sun-Ken Rock.

I want to believe Rea became Human for a while but eventually zombified. I rather ignore the epilogue.

Wanko x Chihiro. Dat wincest.

My copy of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered came in today. The art on the steelbook, and the clear plastic slip-cover are quite choice.

Not gonna lie, as much as l love anime/manga, i feel most that most of the content just ends terribly. The writer just writes themselves into a corner and is basically fuck it. Just once, I want an ending that makes sense and ties up all the loose ends.

Surprising that they'll be distributing those sensibly. They're just going to contact people from the waitlist in order and offer them 1 each.

I think I tossed my name on the waitlist earlier just cause I could and was curious if stock would pop in. Now I'm unsure if I'd take it if they offered me one, its resale value will make it worthwhile but I don't like giant statue CEs.

Like all things, only a few really stand out. But they do exist.

I agree, very rarely do anime or manga have great endings. Most of the time its just rushed garbage, especially in the case of manga. Most of them try to wrap everything up in a single chapter, which usually ends up being terrible. This is especially awful for manga that have been running for ages.

I feel like a lot of anime/manga is kind of losing me as an audience since i'm getting older and most of the stories are eh and similar. I still watch anime and read manga....mainly just stick to a few comedy/romance series. I think I kind of outgrew most of the shounen genre....also doesn't help they go on forever and ever. I think the only manga/anime that I was really satisfied with is Maison Ikkoku. I'm trying to think of others but can't at the moment.

Pretty much exactly how I feel, I seem to only watch comedy now since I've given up on supposedly longer series...Where's my season 3 of Index Damn it!

That happened to me about 15 years ago. I'm strictly a gamer now, not an anime guy anymore.

I've got really bad news. The same principle applies to all media. So if you aren't entertained by anything that isn't new or novel, you are in for a very boring life. It might be a good idea to learn to appreciate the quality of execution. Humanity has been telling the same stories over and over again for millennia.

I realize that haha. But you can only get excited for some weakling crying and training to become the baddest, strongest person for so long. On the other hand, how many losers are going to get every girl they talk to? Everything is derivative of everything. So much manga/anime is targeted towards teens though with super strong people everywhere, high school and girls doing cute things. There are anime that are decent of course, but I just don't see it as much anymore. I think i'm starting to gravitate more towards comics and other stuff is all.

Understandable. And I certainly won't try to dissuade you from exploring other media. It's a good idea to spread your interests out a bit. Dappling in a variety of different media is a good approach to your entertainment.

Might I suggest a smattering of classic literature? I'd personally recommend a little H. P. Lovecraft for someone on a budget. All of his work is part of the public domain, and can be acquired legally at no cost. And it's all pretty good stuff. Quite a bit of it is short as well, so it isn't nearly as much of a commitment when it comes to reading. You can get through most of his individual works in less than an hour.

I'm also a very big fan of Isaac Asimov. His work isn't nearly as accessible, but it is often considered the gold standard for classic science fiction. It would definitely be a change up from angsty teens. Very few of those in Asimov's books.

I just wanted to qoute you for recommending Asimov and H.P. Lovecraft both. Heinlein is also excellent for Sci Fi if you like it a bit less dry, and if you can get into Philip K Dick he is as well.

I actually like the Misaka-focused Railgun anime, but I will completely agree that we need the next season of Index.

It's been so long since Index season 2 aired!

I'm a book lover of sorts....read some Asimov and Heinlen (mainly short stories). I have a big imagination so the stuff plays out in my head as I read so it's pretty cool. I really like Haruki Murakami and Steinbeck....read too many of both, but I mainly enjoy them. I do need to read more fantasy/sc-fi as I just don't do that very often. I also read light novels as well. Good suggestions though. It's alright if I stay away from anime a bit anyway since i have a backlog over 3000 games long (i document every bundle purchase...) and have plenty of books and such since I go to thrift stores often and also donate relatively often.

I mean I loved RPGs as a kid, and still do for some of them, but I know some stories/characters are lacking, the same with anime/manga and shows/movies/etc... Your tastes change usually. I mean I don't go reading all those choose your own adventure books anymore hehe or watching Sailor Moon.
