Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

According to those who have played the Souls games, Bloodborne is the easiest of them all. I can't offer an opinion since I've only played that and Demon's Souls, but I did think the latter was more difficult.

Because a lot of folks played BB after DeS and DkS. DeS especially has a goofy byzantine upgrade system but the first game is the biggest hurdle to figure out the stupid-ass stat systems in Souls games. Once you figure out what you're meant to do, every single future game is going to be easier because you won't put points in DEX thinking "It'll help me roll better while wielding this giant-ass sword!" Dark Souls is incredibly easy compared to BB once you get past that initial hurdle, excepting of course O&S and the one time you forget you can skip that shithole Blighttown and the other time you forget where Fatty spawns and that he's a grindwall. You could just be stuck at a boss for an hour and have only tried that boss three times in Dark Souls because the bonfire placement is almost as bad as the level design.

The aggregate pool of knowledge is greater too because NOBODY plays these games truly blind. They're hitting wikis or message boards and swapping secrets.

Of course, BB's skill/upgrade systems are just more straightforward and user-friendly anyway.

That's not what I'm getting at. I mean if 20%+ of players have the platinum, I don't think it's the creme de la creme of difficult games.

mad because bad and fishing so so hard lol yeah lets go with platinums that will save your ego.

They literally announced a contest for getting that plat with a free theme and everything. Versus playing the glitchy to the point of barely playable version of Bayonetta.

Something might be wrong with me when I'm more excited about this game than Persona 5, Uncharted 4, Horizon, Final Fantasy XIV, Megatagmension Blanny, Division, and The Last Guardian... put together...

I'd justify myself by saying something like: game is unique, haven't played a sports/volleyball game in a while, like to gamble, etc. but that's not gonna cut it.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for the breas- uh, premise of the game.

My Street Fighter V came today.

For the short as hell story mode, you bank 160,000 fight money which a new character is 100k and the story mode costume for a character is 40k.

Have not tried online, but I will say fighting is damn good and the game looks visually amazing.

I have $50 in Best Buy bucks I need to use by March, but I'm hesitant on spending it on SFV when there's no arcade mode and I suck horribly online.

You can earn costumes. Just not the Premium Costumes

I hate that this is so reminiscent of FE: Awakening. My Gamestop copy back then came in 2 weeks late, and by then I already purchased at Walmart since I wanted to play. Now supposedly physical copies are scarce in store and all this bull with the SE.....it's all happening again and it's not making me happy. I was like...oh maybe I wont get the game this weekend but I should be playing it next week....yeah that's likely not going to happen!

Wonderful game if u are a into the fgc. The server issues are mostly gone and online plays great.


If you are just a casual player, wait until March or June for the challenge/trials and cinematic story update. Probably cheaper by then too.

For some reason, I only get 50 FM (Fight Money) per win, and none for the hundreds of losses that I have

We get 10,000 (per character story mode finish) x16 = 160,000

4,000 (per survival level finish) x4 = 16,000 (per character) x16 = 256,000

1,000 (per level/assuming you get to around level 10 with each char) x10 x16 = 160,000

Add together = 576,000, meaning 24,000 FM left, meaning you have to win 480 matches... wtf...

This is assuming that you have beaten all the survival stages, even hell, which is 100 consecutive fights,

I think each character goes up to level 50, so there's a bit more to gain from that too, but it's been glitchy for me, not giving me FM after levels, and higher levels need a much higher level of EXP

There's also the challenges update, which might award FM too.

Lastly, assuming they also let you do story and survival with the DLC characters, there's a couple thousand to gain there too.

So all in all, if you don't buy any costumes, getting all 6 DLC chars for free isn't impossible, but pretty tedious.

I doubt they will ever add an Arcade mode, they only have plans so far for a challenge mode, extra tutorial, 1-2 hour story, and a dedicated vs CPU mode.

Honestly, unless there's absolutely no game you want in March (Far Cry Primal, The Division), I'd skip it. Even the online, the biggest selling aspect of the game, has plenty of flaws. Hope that informs you a bit, feel free to ask anything else.

Edit: Oh, and they also give a free month of Twitch Subscription to the Capcom Fighters' channel, not sure if you can sell it for some money, but it's there. I'll probably save it for EVO or Capcom Cup.
