Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

I'm having a hard time choosing between PS4 and PSVita myself :/

^ Nice ! Can it be used multiple times? Im really thinking of getting GalGun for Ps Vita and PS4 since I know if I get one ill regret not getting the other :p

 
speaking of gal gun 2 for vita, do you use your finger to target and shoot? or the dual sticks ?
and are there any extra vita features? like camera mode stuff, AR, ect.. ?

I plan on getting the ps4 version. The ce costs a bit more than I was expecting so I'll wait for the eventual price drop.

PS4 is the best value for the CE. The standard versions on Vita/PS4 are $50/$65, and the CEs are $95/$100. The Vita CE costs $10 more than it should for no apparent reason.

That article is actually poorly-written in the sense that Koei-Tecmo didn't explicitly state that they were adding dismemberment to our version (just that it's confirmed for ours) despite the Destructoid editor claiming otherwise. The game won't be ready for several months yet, so there's a chance the Japanese version could have the same level of violence.

No you cannot use the touchscreen to target and shoot. But there is a special attack where you can tap the girls rapidly on the touch screen. The vita had pretty long load times, dunno if the same is true for PS4. Also vita thumbsticks are pretty shit for precise aiming.

"Monthly active users" Well that's misleading since it's only been out for one month. I expect that number to drop rapidly in the coming months. The app is really shitty anyway. Getting a lot of crashes on my end. We gave up club nintendo for this....

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a Japanese version of Ace Combat 3 at a Half Price Books. I had no clue up until then that the US version we got is complete BS. Pity because I think AC4 is winning, not that it doesn't deserve it; it's the best in the series IMO.

The solution is:

Ace Combat Chronicles - Full campaigns from AC 3, 4, 5, and 0 all in one game. Day. One. Buy. For me.

Consoles and PCs can support the data it should take to get them on one disc too.

And maybe AC 1, 2, and 6 missions as a "season pass".

Got my copy of Summon Night 5 today :) Got that shipping sticker off with almost no damage to the box art. Very nice touch w/ the shipping box. I'll be happy to buy from them again in the future.

Yeah, mine crashes quite a bit too, but it's not like this replaced club nintendo, the new my nintendo replaced it. This is just another way to earn coins.

Glad to see that Nintendo is making money from this. Personally I don't even know where to go to buy things with real money in it and haven't been bothered by the app to do so. Just as it should be.

Dang...so much going on that I have to catch up on... Can't wait for all the Falcom goodness this year! :whee:

If they did just AC4 remastered, I think most would be happy with that. I really hope they're actually serious on remaking the old ones.

BTW 2 kinda got a remake in the form of 3DS' Cross Rumble/Assault Horizon Legacy. The + version while not worth the full $40 added some much needed changes to the controls. Loved it.

There's still plenty to do--checking all 11,000~ voice files to make sure they sound awesome, be sure none of them are on fire, that sort of thing--but it's another milestone met for the localization. So for people who were expecting Sen II to take 5 years *coughcough*WhoknowsMightyPillar*cough* read it and weep; it's coming out and coming out this year! WOOOOOO!

 
Hmm I don't think its a normal thing for voice files to burst into flames spontaneously...  I will likely pass on cold steel 2.  1 was so so but it was too easy and alot of chapters were just repetitive side quests.  Plus the game was obscenely long.  I prefer if a games gonna be a trilogy they should be short and sweet like .hack gu vol 1, xenosaga 1 or ff13-3 were.
