Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I see it now, thank you. $55 is a terrible price for this? What would be a good price?
Its dropped down to $40 without a deal, and past lightning deals had it around $50, used from AWD goes for around $50-$55, so anything around $40. Its been getting rarer now, even Gamestop and Best Buy sold out their copies, so maybe it's an alright price.

Here is another game that shot up to $50 before dropping back down to $32: :ps4: Nights of Azure

The PC version is $30. You'll have to really want a copy sitting on the shelf to justify a much higher price.

Unless you're some crazy ass GUST physical game collector, then I wouldn't touch Nights of Azure for anything more than $20. The game just isn't worth it.

Been playing way too much Nioh though. I wasn't actually planning on this and keep it strictly co-op with a friend. However since it's currently not possible to co-op unless one person has at least beaten the level you want to co-op, I've ended up going through it solo.

Do go on! I'm SUPER interested in Nioh but thanks to only just discovering The Witcher 3 about a month ago, I know I won't be playing anything else while at home for a long time to come.

I don't know if anyone is getting Mass Effect Andromeda and didn't order the crazy Car Special Edition from Bioware to get the Steelbook, but now Best Buy is selling it for $10.

Now to decide if I want the Deluxe Disc Copy, Digital Deluxe Copy, Super Deluxe Edition

LINK
It's a different steelbook than the one that comes with the cars. But from the latest pics I've seen, that may not be a bad thing. It looks like the steelbook that comes with the car is one of those fat ones like Halo 5 had. The BB one appears to be normal sized. I just hope it has different art on the back cover and art on the inside, not like the Dishonored 2 Royal Protector edition one or the Amazon Skyrim one.

Haha, yeah. When normal mobs owns you cause you get lazy and they still hit like a truck.

If any of you have a Round One bowling alley nearby you should definitely check it out. One opened sort of near in January and I went today and they have a ton of Japanese arcade games.

The standout of course

A couple other rhythm games. Pretty much every rhythm game there had at least one Miku song.

Terrible picture of Groove Coaster. Protip: This one is on Android/iOS and the songs you can buy are pretty great (Lots of vocaloid stuff)

There were Splatoon plushes in another UFO catcher that I tried and failed at.

Wow this place seems pretty cool. There is one within an hour from me in Illinois and another one is coming soon. I might check it out this weekend. Thanks!

Edit: forgot to ask, how expensive is it? :whistle2:k

Round One is a Japanese arcade chain.

The bowling and billiards are the peripherals if anything. ;D

Also, if you're addicted to huge ass plushies, then it's the place you want to be too, since they have good ones, instead of the junk in American style arcades.

As far as how expensive it is, it depends. On average it's a dollar (4 credits) for most games. Can go as high as a couple of dollars for some. However, they also have unlimited play for an hour time purchases, so just how it sounds. Of course, this doesn't apply to all games, only the ones with green swipers. The rainbow ones will not work for that hour, but will take money off your card if there's money on it, so be careful. Almost all of the rhythm games are rainbow, so pretty much hard to come by. Sometimes they cycle it out. Usually I see green more on the older fighting, shooting, and most racing games.

They also have frequent visit cards, and what not. This gives you a minor discount each time you reload, and higher membership you go, the more discount you get, but not a whole lot more for each level. You also get more minutes on your unlimited play, like 10 extra minutes for each membership level. Just a note, these levels require a ton of visits, so it'd be awhile.

As you can tell, I get dragged there quite a lot by my family, so yeah...REGRET.

The ones in Japan were fun too, but couldn't really enjoy it as much since everyone smokes in there, especially around the fighting and rhythm games, so it's hazy and foggy inside, and smells quite terrible. Was not nearly as fun as I'd hope it'd be there. XD

oh i completely forgot that a Round One was going to open up in nyc. thanks for the reminder.

The foggy atmosphere in fighting arcades in japan is badass, its like entering an underground club except better cause it's not a club its an arcade at 1am.
I like the crane prizes in Sega the most.

Damn, the nearest Round One bowling place is 2 hours away...

Arcades in Japan definitely spoiled me, I come back home to realize we have almost no decent arcades at all here in the US.

Are you in Chicago too?
Pretty much. I've always lived in Illinois and I go to college in state too. I recently went to a Dave and Buster's and it was pretty fun. They had DDR and some other one with Korean songs, but I'd love to experience japanese rhythm games in an arcade for once. Usually stuff like this is reserved for New York or Cali, so it's nice that Round one is nearby.

For some non arcade talk.

Fire Emblem Heroes the 10000 feathers were delivered today. There are arena rewards and they are giving 10 dueling daggers which recharge the battles (3 per dagger). 20 battles in total gets you feathers, while 10 gives feathers and also get 10 on int difficulty or higher to earn some other award. I did a pull today and got a Tiki which is nice. I'm not sure i'll use her since I'm using Lyn and Tharja...though she may replace Tharja though I love Tharja's range. I think balance is good for the arena battles. You never know what weapons you're going against. I can't wait to get Cordellia 5 star someday. She eats through red units and everyone uses red units since most of the generals are red. Also be very wary going against Takumi....they're everywhere and very hard to kill.

The UFO games are expensive. I came home with more than my money's worth, but I definitely spent a lot.

But it's fun getting a $40 plush with $2 (obviously lucked out).

Also, Gunslinger Stratos is pretty fun.

The number of rhythm games they had was really nice...among the other Japanese arcade machines. Finding Project Diva was an amazingly nice surprise.

For cost I think $20 got me like 90 credits and the games I played were around 6 credits I think.

There's a vocaloid bundle on Groupess for $2 minimum. I typically enjoy most of the Mwk's mixes of things, so it's cool to see that's one of the albums

https://groupees.com/vocaloid3

'Damnation' is probably one of my favorite tracks, full version in spoiler tag:

the Mwk remix of 'Love is War' I also really like. It's not in this bundle, but it is a free download in the YouTube description:

Got bored again, so made another account.

I think this one might be my favorite one yet, as it's the most balanced one yet. :D

The double Roy is rather unfortunate though. ~_~

^I think you're having more fun making everyone envious of your luck than with the actual game =_=
:(

There isn't much to it right now honestly. I do enjoy the bored rerolls and I do like the most current team.
Yeah, it's always fun when you have so many orbs to start with, and it's super easy to farm. Once you get through all the scenario stages on all modes, that stops. XD

But yeah, I like my current team a lot too. I think all my previous ones weren't as balanced as this one.

I think Maria is amazing since she has a range, aoe heal, which is mind blowing.

11,898 feathers hot damn I'm rich !! Take me to the casino, honey!
I had that initial reaction at first too, then when I went to try and evolve my 4* to 5*, I suddenly realized I was just middle class still, and couldn't afford the upgrade. :*(

You can't even think about it in that fashion. Feathers are there to take characters from 2* to 3*, and from 3* to 4*. I'm stoked because there hasn't been much of anything to do the last two days and now I have 4* Shareena, Alphonse, and Anna all lvl 5 and moving on up in the world! They were also getting close to max level ups as 3*s as I got them to lv28. Feathers are best spent on Characters you couldn't normally get at four stars, or on units like Clarine that are awesome and you can't wait around until RNG get her as a 4*.

check out their 5* attacks and abilities, they are pretty good, and they also make a well-rounded team:

Fair point.

I think I was just more in awe how much of a jump in feathers was needed to go from 4* to 5* compared to 3* to 4*.

Was hoping that 10,000 feathers would've covered that at least, but I guess it was more wishful thinking really. XD

But yeah, since I can't do that now, I'll probably just start to look at some of my lower star units to see the best way to use these feathers.

Here's hoping they have another Twitter "challenge" so we get more feathers. :D

The problem is the very good 4 stars, such as Cordellia and seeing a few skills I can't get because she's only 4 star. Now that I hate. It really should be like 10k feathers at most 4 to 5. Would still require a lot of grinding but it's more doable. Course F2P games are less about the logical and more about the lets reach into your pockets and see what we can take......which does include time by the way. Time isn't free haha.

That starting base attack, mahgahd. @_@

I was kind of thinking 10k would've been a good measure as 20k just seems incredibly high.

I guess it is a little better now, since they added quests that actually give you feathers, but still, they're once a month, so will stay take a considerable amount of time to build it up outside of quests and events. But yeah, in the end it's a f2p game, so it could be worse, especially since the feathers we did get were free anyways.

Hopefully they will give us some more feathers in the next couple of months. :D

How is everyone progressing in Nioh?  I'm lv37 and just about ready to leave the first region after a couple of sub-missions.  I'm in love with this game.

The game is fantasticly addictive. It's like a combination of dark souls and the diablo loot system which adds a lot of replay ability. Granted it's a cheap ploy to get more game time by repeating missions but dammit it's still working. Sucks so far is that the first 4 levels are pretty much identical to the ones in the demos but at least this time all the loot checking and forging isn't going to waste. Game feels a lot easier than the alpha though.
Biggest gripe is that hopefully the people playing don't mind that the bosses are much more difficult than the standard enemies and hopefully don't rage quit so we can see a sequel in the works.

I'm currently [customspoiler='level 75']
Nioh1.png
[/customspoiler] with stats distributed pretty evenly. It wouldn't be so even if Dexterity and Magic wasn't required for training missions. Still wearing [customspoiler='level 48~ armor']
Nioh2.png
[/customspoiler] that I crafted a while back though. It doesn't help that my next mission has a recommended level of 87 though, but I haven't really been having any issue. At the very least I'm keeping [customspoiler='my weapons']
Nioh3.png
[/customspoiler] updated though. Surprised that I'm that far behind the recommended level since I've been doing co-op with a friend. Otherwise I'd probably still be in my mid to late 60s. As for the area I'm in, I'm [customspoiler='at the end of the']4th[/customspoiler] area.

Difficulty it's not nearly as difficult as the alpha was. At least for me, but I didn't play the alpha much and the combat didn't properly click with me until the Last Chance Demo. Nearly every boss I've gotten in 1 to 3 deaths except for maybe one or two? There have been a number that I've downed on my first attempt too.

I'm lvl 40 and I'm about to leave the first region too. I've done all the sub missions there but one, and I need to go back to the last main story mission and find the last Kodama I missed. I have mountains of loot I want to deal with before I go to the next region tho lol. I'm loving this game so much. Each time I turn on my ps4 to get the last few skins I need in overwatch, I end up playing this instead.

Level 51 and just got to the 3rd region.  Some of the bosses are ok but 1 or 2 took me 2hrs+ so it can get frustrating.
