Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

This weeks spotlight belongs to Fire Emblem Echoes. There are however a couple secondary titles that don't look bad, but will likely turn out to be discount titles. Also added two kickstarter games that are releasing and look promising based off of screenshot first impressions that fit the thread via genre at least.

Other stuff that released without warning last week (Assume PC unless otherwise noted):
- A Butterfly in the District of Dreams (Visual Novel)

Can I gush a bit regarding the Nier Automata soundtrack?

I usually never notice music in games but man does it help create ambiance and make certain moments feel ever more epic! It also helps that a few songs sound like they were ripped right out of MGS.  :whistle2:

Seriously, the soundtrack fits the tone of the game like underwear to 2B's Booty like white on rice. It's one of the most unique soundtracks too, and just gives you chills. In fact, at times it's a little too good and too emotion provoking. Like the music overwhelms me a bit, especially with headphones on. I don't even want to go to the amusement park anymore just cause the music is too powerful there. The tracks are definitely up there with the best, Blazblue, Persona 4, and Final Fantasy 13 (yes.)

I don't know if any of you have seen it / read it yet, but the newest Game Informer magazine is one of the GOAT.  Its subject is "The 100 Greatest RPGs of All-Time".  The cover art is fantastic.  Coolest issue of Game Informer that I've seen in a long time due to a pandering RPG list where each game has a paragraph synopsis that also highlights the developer for each title.  The list is also surprisingly very accurate! As in, no qualms at all with the top 50.  They did a great job.

Kind of dumb, I know.  But I really enjoyed it!

Danganronpa Reload is on sale this week at Best Buy for $23.99 after GCU for anyone holding out in getting the game cheaper.

Danganronpa 1-2 Reload - PlayStation 4 - $23.99 after GCU
That is a good price, but since I already have them on vita I think I might chance it and hold out for $20/$16(GCU)

Skies of Arcadia Skies of Arcadia Skies of Arcadia....

Skies of Arcadia Skies of Arcadia Skies of Arcadia....
That feel when you'll never get to play Skies of Arcadia for the first time ever again. I need to lend this game to BlackRockWaifu and watch him play it then I can relive that experience in some way.

Give it to me I'll play it. I could never find it when it first came out except once at a flea market but the guy wanted like a dumb amount of money for it so I just went on living my life eating churros and buying fake pokemon cards.

With the time soon approaching. What are the chances of Fire Emblem Echoes LE stock showing up or someone selling them for at cost price? I'm probably just going to download it if I can't get ahold of the LE. But I'd really prefer the LE.
According the the CAG homepage, it just popped up on Gamestop again. If you're still interested enough to get it from them. (I know some people detest ordering from Gamestop) Not sure how long this will last.

Thanks for the heads up. I put in an order but is there any kind of free shipping code that would work?

A thousand times this!

Still one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I probably put over 300 hours scouring the GC version for all the discoveries and grinding up to lvl 99 for all my characters.

It's been a long time since I've ordered online from them so I'm not 100% sure. I remember using the code SAVER for free shipping, but that might no longer be used. Anyone else familiar with GameStop's promo codes?

SAVER only works for in-stock orders, but usually free shipping kicks in for $35+ orders without a need for a promo code. However, preorders can be iffy with shipping costs--the GS-exclusive Amiibos releasing this summer had a shipping fee attached to each one (prompting me to preorder in-store instead).

The feeling when you hear "Fire consume my enemies! LAMBDA BURST!" for the 10,000th time...

:pc: Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 1,2, and V have been rererereleased on Twitch Desktop App for $6.99 each. I already have the games on Vita, and most probably have the Steam versions, but these come with special Twitch emotes and badges. Damn, I actually really want them.

They really know how to steal a guy's heart.

The advertisement is misleading too, it says discount of $6.99 like it's for all 3 when it's for each game. Plus, the description has a mistake, saying it's the first time the game has been released on PC, when it's been on Steam before.

Honestly Sega should just localize the recent Shining games....though Shining Force would be sweet (wanted Shining Hearts and Shining Wind) . I'm hoping for a Streets of Rage remake...containing 1-3 with nice old school visual like Sonic Mania. Also more Sakura Wars please!

Man, I would absolutely adore a new Seaman game.  Though it would need to be just as creepy and weird as the original, if not creepier.

I was on board with the list until they put Skyrim at #1 ahead of FFVI and Chrono Trigger.

WTF. Seriously? I adore the hell out of Skyrim, but no way shape or form could it beat those two for better rpg. Makes me wonder who the hell are they trying to pander to with that.
