The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!
After debating it over and over...decided to bite on the Atlus "Legend of Y's I & II". I've been looking for the DS game but could never find it new only used with everything missing include the soundtrack CD. And I was hoping the PSP chronicles version would be coming out but after a year, but maybe not. Anway, it's on Amazon now for $19.59 (Hubbagames) but I'm hoping it comes with the soundtrack. After two years I think...finally purchased it.
The problem with Ys I & II on DS is that the traditional Ys control (bumping into enemies in combat) has been restricted to the stylus control. If you control using the D-Pad, you are limited with the new method of swinging a sword, but there's no range with the attack using this method.

The PSP version (scheduled for release on 02/15) will be more spot on as Falcom is doing the port themselves from the updated PC re-release. Enjoy the DS version though...it's quite rare until recently that the US has even seen this series released here. I know I was grateful to Atlus for releasing it....

Thanks Joe for your post. I actually canceled my order from Amazon (usually they process it so fast, but managed to cancel in time) after reading what you posted and then reading the Japanese reviews for the PSP version. I would rather have Falcom doing the port more than anything. Thanks again!

Not sure if we'll get a soundtrack with the PSP version though. Hopefully we do, similar to "Y's Seven".

I JUST got Record of Agarest of War in the mail. Pretty damn fast considering the destination (Puerto Rico). Very well packaged, give my props to your shipping guy.
Gonna read the manual soon and pop this in my 360.

Bump to add this:

Kenka Bancho is on sale for $19.99 at Gamestop. It's not available online, so it's best for you to check in-store. Been waiting for this to drop in price.

It's actually been this price for a while. Good luck finding a non-gutted copy though. I sent this to Amazon using their tell us about a lower price thing a while ago, and they dropped the price by like 17 cents. :/

"Kenka Bancho" is awesome and I hope the others are released. For those who are wondering what the game is about, you're literally gang leader and you go on a school trip. But other schools are on the same trip and have different schedules of areas they are visiting.

Each of these gangs have their sub-leaders and leaders and you literally kick their butt and you get their respect and they can also be your partner when taking on other gangs. But the game has different storylines. There is a girl that likes you from your class, you can grow your relationship with her, or another girl from a high school nearby and more.

Still haven't beaten the boss (no retrys on the boss but you can start on over on your last save) though. In a way, reminds me of a modern successor to "River City Ransom" because you can buy things from shops and even enhance your fight style.

Anyway, definitely a game worth owning on the PSP. But yeah, hopefully you can find a complete version used.

^ The game is $19.99 new, and $17.99 used. Considering the way Gamestop treats their used stock, I say it's best to drop the two extra bones.

The best part is that translated, the title is something like Badass Rumble: Badass Rumble

Atlus Knights in the Nightmare (PSP) has dropped from $29 to $14.99. Better get it now! (Remember, the game comes with a free download of Yggdra Union as well)
http://www.amazon.com/Knights-Night...5EXC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1293213566&sr=8-2

Also, 3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3) dropped to Black Friday price - $14.99
http://www.amazon.com/3D-Dot-Game-H...J45C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293213497&sr=8-1

I've been waiting for "Knights in the Nightmare" to drop. But needed another game to get that free shipping and figured I'll pick up Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga (wii) since it dropped to $11.99.

I ended up getting both of these. I was also looking at this -
http://www.amazon.com/Mimana-Iyar-C..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1293219715&sr=1-1

Is Mimana worth the $21 price?
General gist is no. I did buy it for ~$20 to collect though.
Reviews for the game weren't stellar in the US, especially in Japan. But I did buy it as I'm open to playing a lot of the Japanese RPG's. But unfort. the version I got was a gutted version via using the gamestop code for $18.99 days before the Aksys sale.

---
Happy the Knights in the Nightmare went down. I was so close to buying a used DS copy from Gamestop...but held off because I was hoping that game would go down to under $20 and $14.99 is great.
Mimana was $10 from Gamefly. I didn't pick it up cuz I figured it would suck.
still that price to KEEP IT no more buy it... might try to get it in my Q before the price goes up.. i would keep it for 9
is this at all worth getting I'd I've already got the DS version and don't care about the Yggdra Union download?
Then probably not. I don't plan on ordering the one I ordered today, but I do already have the DS version as well. Basically, the controls are supposedly better on the DS.

I also heard the PSP controls are better but I suppose its all subjective.

Hmm...Has anyone played "Neverland Battles". Noticed Amazon and other retailers list it as an Atlus game but it's from Yukes (don't see the Atlus logo anywhere). It's going for $10.86. Is it worth getting?

There's a demo on the PSN. It's not great, but it seemed alright.

I bought it on release because I love SRPGs and card-battle games but I just didn't like it at all, especially since, even though it looks like it from the screenshots, it is actually NOT a strategy RPG but more like a crappy version of Othello. You have to take control of squares on a grid and the cards you can play are dependent on how many squares you control. If this sounds interesting to you, I would say try to pick up either of the Culdcept games instead (you could probably pick up the X360 version for pretty cheap nowadays).

999 is already out of stock in Amazon, hope they restock soon or I will regret not buying at $31.99.
From The Abyss 6.99 shipped amazon
Has anyone played it? The reviews seem to be average at best though can't really complain with a $6.99 price tag :p

It plays very similar to Chrono Trigger. I noticed a few graphical glitches and such, but overall the game is above-mediocre. Probably the most annoying part of the game is the amount of grinding that you have to do (the abnormally high encounter rate does speed up the process.. a little)

I've played a bit of From the Abyss. It's not bad. I wouldn't say it's much more than a budget-style title though. I'd give it a B-/C+ though. It's not bad, that's for sure.

For $7 you can't really go wrong. I picked up a copy for $10 at Kmart, and have enjoyed it so far. I'm not that far into the game though (3-4 hours maybe? Not really sure)

More drop downs on Amazon:

Steal Princess (DS) - $16.93
http://www.amazon.com/Steal-Princes..._7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1293502428&sr=1-7

Master of the Monster Lair (DS) - $12.70
http://www.amazon.com/Master-Monste...0?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1293502428&sr=1-10

Spectral Force Genesis (DS) - $12.02
http://www.amazon.com/Spectral-Forc..._8?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1293502742&sr=1-8

Muramasa (Wii) - $13.77
http://www.amazon.com/Muramasa-Demo..._3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1293502742&sr=1-3

Curious, did Atlus' Hexyz Force go OOP???? Amazon has not received any new copies in months....
Curious, did Atlus' Hexyz Force go OOP???? Amazon has not received any new copies in months....
Wouldn't be surprised. Quick look shows Gamestop having it in stock online. GoHastings and Buy.com do not. Probably a good idea to pick a copy up if you were waiting for it to drop.
Is the digital copy of Persona 3 Portable ever going to go on sale? :(
Well... It WAS on sale for $19.99 about a month ago.

Are most of the NISA special editions, regular releases of the first printing?

I ask because I saw Hyperdimension Neptunia is getting a special edition in the trailer they released and I have $60 credit at Estarland.com. When I asked them about the special edition, they said they will only get it if its the normal release, since most LEs will only go to major retailers.

Depends on the title.

Some games all 1st press is the limited edition while other games you have regular and limited going to certain stores... and then you have the NISA Special edition which they sell direct themselves.

Oh man, I can't believe I missed out on that :(

Thanks kndy, in for a copy of Valhalla Knights.

BTW - your link for the Capcom games doesn't seem to be going to the correct spot (it's going to a general list of all NewEgg gaming items).

I've heard some pretty bad things about Valhalla Knights, but has anyone here got any perspective on it? I've been following it for a while and $10 is where I impulse buy a lot of stuff.
I've been following it for a while and $10 is where I impulse buy a lot of stuff.
Same here. I enjoyed the original for PSP, and generally like the Xseed stuff, so for $10 shipped I can't argue.

Entirely off topic, but is it possible to please shorten the thread title, OP? Without spaces, it's a constant strand of text that throws off the margins on the mobile version of the forums. It'd be much appreciated. :)

I figured I should mention two things.
First the first run of Hyperdimension Neptunia (the console war game) will be the special edition anywhere the game is sold. If you preorder at the Nis store though you will get a free deck of cards with it as well.

Second and this is a big one... the nis store is starting to offer free shipping with your orders. I have already be able to confirm this on some stuff (a game that used to run me $12 for shipping is now showing up as free shipping) I was talking to a NIS rep a few days ago and he said they were switching over to this, so most likely this is something that will stick around. Likely they finally decided to do something about everyone who said I would of ordered it from you but the shipping killed the deal ^^.

Thank goodness, finally.

Never played it, but saw it on Newegg for $10 so I looked it up on Metacritic.

Every review pretty much says the same thing: 'Only get this is you are totally hard up for an rpg toplay on the Wii'

Even for $10 I don't think Im in.

I read Metacritic as well, but I also take everything on there with a grain of salt.

I was hoping someone here would have played it and could give me some feedback about it. $10 isn't a lot, although if the game is as bad as it's made out to be, $10 is a lot more than I would want to pay.
