I haven't read many but if you haven't read Kurt's yet, it's worth checking out.
what kinds of things does he touch on in the book? Im a big fan of hearing old road stories and inside stuff about what was going on at the time. By any chance does he get into the whole him leaving the ecw show were raven crucified someone?

WWE.com has learned that Paul Heyman has made an offer to World Champion Rey Mysterio to jump to ECW. The offer was extended in the locker room area after the WWE vs. ECW Head to Head special.

Sources close to the situation claim that Heyman is apparently trying to hedge his bets, meaning that if Mysterio accepts the offer, the World Championship would come to ECW regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s One Night Stand match between Sabu and Mysterio. Now that Big Show is an official ECW Wrestler, is Rey Mysterio far behind?

Quick question: Since Vince is bringing back ECW is he going to provide the titles that ECW had during it time like the TV title and such or is he going to do the interpromotional titles were ECW wrestlers would have to win titles from off of Smackdown! and Raw?
I finished up reading Pipers book recently and i was wondering if anyone else had any other wrestling biographies that they would suggest.
I don't recall anything memorable about Flair's. The only wrestling books I've read that I recommend are Foley's *first* book (there's much repitition and little new substance in "Foley is Good"), and the two WrestleCrap books ("WrestleCrap" and "The Death of WCW"). The latter two are good, though you'll tear through them in a day.

If you like tawdy bullshit and dick sizes, then Missy Hyatt's book is great for a laff; be forewarned, it's a "tell-all" book, but these are pro wrestlers, who are notorious bullshitters. I wouldn't pay money for it, but it's pretty funny, like a B-movie that wasn't intended to be a B-movie.

Also, Chyna's book is fabulous in somewhat the same way. Her book is, in my experience, the single worst example of ghost-writing I've ever fucking read. Remember the fruitbat goth kid in your high school creative writing class? The one who over adjective-d fucking *EVERYTHING*, and somehow what he thought was well-developed and profound, everyone else giggled at? Well, that's like Chyna's book. And her book can be found underneath ceramic statues of Black Jesus at damn near every dollar store in the nation these days.

I've wanted to read the ECW book WWE put out, but I've also read that it's more or less the same story as the DVD. I'll wait on that one. The only wrestling book I'd *really* like to read right now is (thanks DJSteel) William Regal's. I think it's ghost-written (never a good sign), but the dude has had some high highs, and even lower lows. It has to be a compelling story, and one from a person who is probably one of the last to experience the "carny hooker" upbringing of professional wrestling.

Thanks Myke! Ive also heard a lot of good things about Regals book as well. Supposedly the book is littered with some great stories and really funny commentary. I also heard Blassie's book is pretty good, if you like profanity and hearing about how many ring rats he tagged in the 60's.

Alot of stuff about him growing up and his amatuer wrestling days. It's been a few years since I read it so I can't really remember any of the road stories but yeah he does talk about the ECW incident.
I finished up reading Pipers book recently and i was wondering if anyone else had any other wrestling biographies that they would suggest.
I've read Mick's first book, Chyna's book, and HBK's book. HBK and Mick's first book were pretty good and I honestly can't remember any of Chyna's book so obviously it wasn't very good.

HBK's book almost reads like a How-to break into the industry. Not that I'm interested in being a wrestler but its interesting none-the-less. It gets a little preachy at the end with stuff like "when I invited the lord jesus christ into my heart" but there isn't too much of it. There's also a lot of road stories and traveling stuff. In fact I think he talks more about the time between matches than any specific matches themselves. Of course he covers the infamous Bret Hart incident as well which is quite interesting.

I have Kurt's book but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Maybe that's something I could get done pretty soon here...

That Rey/RVD match was awesome...

Prediction for the PPV this Sunday: One of the belts is switching hands. Not sure which one though.. On one hand you have the WWE title on the line.

Champion: Cena, who's almost asking for a heel turn and has had the belt way too long
Challenger: RVD, excellent wrestler, but unfortunately has never held the title

Then you have the WCW title on the line.

Champion: Rey, a former ECW guy who's pretty much lost every match since winning the belt
Challenger: Sabu, who hasn't even stepped foot in a WWE ring in like 10 years, someone who I feel doesn't deserve the title, unlike RVD

While I'd like to see both titles switch hands, I feel that Cena's is the only one that has a chance. But would they just give them the title and "tarnish" WWE's legacy like that? If you think about it.. although it's recognized as the title... it's actually Cena's custom belt. So they may return the original WWE championship after Cena loses. I really don't think they'll just give ECW the WWE belt like that... they might give them the WCW belt instead.

So besides one title changing hands, I really have no prediction as to who wins what. But if I had to, I'd say Sabu and Cena win.

Good wrestling bios:

Foley - first one is better than the follow-up, both are well worth your time.
Flair - Possibly the best one ever. Only thing bringing it down is some ass-kissing towards the end.
Dynamite Kid - Listen to the bitter and crippled Dynamite Kid talk about how he could kick everyone's ass!...except Dan Spivey or Bad News Brown, apparently. Some of the stories reek of bullshit, but that's half the fun of it.

Bad wrestling bios:
The Rock - Ghostwritten crap. Some chapters are done "in character," and they're horrible.
Chyna - Worst wrestling bio ever. This was the third bio to show up (after Foley and Rock's) so they were still 1 for 2 back then. After this one I stopped buying them right when they came out. Historical inaccuracy, spelling errors, ego stroking....ugh.
Missy Hyatt - Nice "who's fucking who" gossip here and there, but too short...and really, who cares about Missy Hyatt at this point?
Roddy Piper - One of those annoying perspectives where he hints at stuff actually being a legitimate fight as opposed to a pro wrestling match, but not terrible. Putting it in the "bad" section since it didn't keep me interested long enough to get all the way through it.

Non-bio, but wrestling related:

Wrestlecrap - I know R.D. posts here, and I like his site, but the book was disappointing. Way too much stuff that seemed to be pulled right off the site (which I used back before it was limited to the smaller weekly updates). It seemed to me that it was having an identity crisis...it was trying to appeal to hardcore fans and casual, non-wrestling fans at the same time and never really hit a good middle-of-the-road groove.

Death of WCW - On the other hand, this one was a much better effort from R.D. and Bryan Alvarez. A lot of it the hardcore fans will already know, but there's still enough "what the hell were they doing?" facts in there to keep me interested throughout and a good chronicle of what went on. Recommended.

Has anyone ever heard of the drinking game where you watch a Rob Van Dam ECW match and drink every time he does something that adds absolutely no momentum to a maneuver (ie- going off the ropes and doing a somersault, doing a backflip then shoulder blocking someone)?

You'd get fucked up.

I could see this happening... I could definitely see Rey Mysterio winning his match against Sabu, and then defecting to ECW with the belt. Rey would then go back to putting on awesome matches with people in his weight class. WWE wouldn't mention this if something wasn't in the works... I just see it happening this way.

I could then see GM Teddy Long have a new vacated belt, and this would be prime for Batista to come back, and maybe have a Batista / Booker T feud.. but I don't watch Smackdown at all so I don't know.

I do have a question about Rey... when RVD put the chair on him before the splash off the top ropes, Rey threw the chair out of the way very quickly, but still took the splash and still lost the match. Why? Was the chair ever supposed to be part of the move, or was that a mistake? I assumed Rey kicking off the chair means he was going to counter, but he still took the move and still lost.

If Rey did jump ship though, who would Smackdown have left? Angle left, Orton left, JBL is gone (I think, according to that promo on Raw), and then Rey would be gone. You'd have Booker T, Lashley and...? The wrestlers Smackdown had on WWE vs ECW didn't make me want to watch Smackdown again either.

It's funny to look at it, but every match other then the battle royal and Rey was Raw vs ECW pretty much... even Big Show turning had to do with two Raw stars, and that Randy went to Raw. It's like Smackdown is the home of the misfit toys now, and WWE just stopped caring about it.

Taken from ECW.com

First Big Show, now Rey?
By Ed Williams III
June 8, 2006

First Paul Heyman shocked the sports-entertainment world when he drafted Kurt Angle to ECW. Then another mammoth defection occurred Wednesday night when Big Show turned on his WWE compatriots and ripped off his WWE shirt to reveal an ECW shirt. And now Heyman is looking to deliver another crushing blow to WWE, SmackDown in particular, by trying to lure World Champion Rey Mysterio to his brand. Following vs. ECW Head to Head, WWE.com reported that there were rumors that Heyman was actively pursuing the World Champion. Well, according to Heyman himself, the rumors are true.

“Yes, ECW is actively courting and pursuing Rey Mysterio,” said Heyman. “Mysterio could not get a break in the United States in 1994 and 1995 when he was without questions unparalleled. He was the greatest high-flyer on the planet, bar none, and yet no one would recognize him – not WWE and certainly not WCW. Who recognized Rey Mysterio? ECW recognized Rey Mysterio.”

If successful in luring away Mysterio, Heyman, having already drafted Angle, would have taken away arguably SmackDown’s two greatest athletes. But Heyman insists that he’s not trying to destroy the rival brand.

“Contrary to popular belief, I am not trying to screw over SmackDown,” said Heyman. “I actually like SmackDown more than I like RAW. I have no reason to like RAW. I was General Manager of SmackDown and each and every week I did everything I could to try and make SmackDown better than RAW. I have an emotional attachment to SmackDown, but I have an obligation to ECW, and Rey Mysterio is the World Champion. Whether he’ll be World Champion after Sunday or not, I’m not going to hazard a guess. Either the Championship or Mysterio himself can come to ECW.”

Mysterio will be defending the World Championship against Sabu at One Night Stand Sunday on pay-per-view. If Heyman can bring Mysterio to ECW, he will guarantee himself that ECW would be the new home of the World Championship.

“Is there a suggestion on the table that’s better than that? Win, I win. Lose, I win,” said Heyman. “Hey, ladies and gentlemen, let’s go to Vegas and gamble and you’re guaranteed that you win your money back. It’s the same thing here. Either I get the Champion, I get Mysterio, or I get both. It sounds to me like a win-win for ECW. Should Mysterio accept, you can’t blame me for making that move. Actually, I think I deserve a lot of credit for it.

My girlfriend and I must have laughed for about five minutes when that happened... we both think Mark Henry is one of the worst things in the WWE, and just seeing his dumb ass get elimanted first was hilarious. Espically when he started pounding his fists on the floor as well.

World's Strongest Man indeed.

anyone else noticed that when sabu walked to the ring yesterday he went down the wrong isle... he also launched a chair which looked like it mighta hit a camera man

Its centered around his amature wrestling days leading up to his gold medal win. The last 50-100 pages go into the aftermatch of winning the medal leading to him joining the (back then) WWF along with some stories of his first year.

The Raven/Sandman ECW incident is taked about at around page 171 as I just grabbed my copy. I couldn't remember if he mentioned anything about it. One of my favorite parts of the book came a few pages prior when he talked about his time of being a TV sports anchorman for a Fox station.
Then, finally, I found the script, but just as the highlights were ending. So, the camera came back to me and I said, "And at the Pro Bowl tonight, the AFC beat the NFC. Let's go to the highlights..."

And what came up on the screen? Goddamn golf.
Its well worth getting a copy. I would say actually hunt around a bit on eBay for a hardcover edition as its one of the last WWF label books. It got reprinted on paperback under the WWE which includes any references to WWF/World Wreestling Federation changed to WWE/World Wrestling Entertainment. Plus any photos in the book with the WWF logo have the logos blurred out.

There's one I just found on eBay just looking real quickly.

Steiner vs. Sting is the first match. It's been decent so far... Steiner's surprised me as of late... I was definitely expecting him to suck.
Time To Get Your TNA On..... TNA is on right now on Spike TV.
I'm sorry, I tried, I just can't keep it going though.

'slong as Steiner can keep his ego (and mouth) in check, he'll be a boon to TNA. I think he can pull it off, and I think that he can be a very good wrestler at times, even today.

Kidman's been working in Europe, I think, very sporadically, and hanging out around Orlando trying to get work with TNA. And probably spending Torrie Wilson's money.

Wrestling Bio's: I've read The Rock's, which was terrible, and HBK's, which was decent. I liked the stuff about being on the road. I'm interested to perhaps read the WWE-sanctioned "road-stories" book, but I'm afraid all the good stuff about drinking, fucking, and partying will be "omitted". Has anyone read it?

There are about 7 other awesome WWE Legends shirts at shopzone, including Ravishing Rick Rude, Mr Perfect, The Wild Samoans, and more. I'm not normally an advocate of wearing wrestling t-shirts, but if this means we may see a Demolition shirt, I'll fucking buy two!
Smackdown pre-empted for Orioles vs. Twins. Oh boy.
They might as well run Smackdown. The Twins this year have been jobbing like crazy.

Edit: GO REGAL GO!

I haven't watched Smackdown in a long time... so far I saw a guy wearing a dress wrestling, and Tazz and Cole kept talking about how odd it was, and when I came back I saw Mark Henry beating up a jobber and making a shitty promo.

I remember why I don't watch Smackdown... I just want to see the awesome shit that was in the spoilers at the end of the show.

Tazz leaving was awesome, and that Sabu spot was amazing.

TNA House Show Philly results.

Shark Boy defeats Simond Diamond.
Jay Lethel defeats Sonjay Dutt.
Abyss defeats Brother Runt in what is being described as a wild bloody match.
Traci Brooks defeats Gail Kim with Christy Hemme as the guest ref. This was taped for the Knockouts DVD.
Jarrett cuts a promo against ECW and Philly, Rhino cuts a promo on Jarrett.
Rhino defeats Jarrett.
Petey Williams defeats Jerry Lynn.
Samoa Joe defeats AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels to retain the X Division Title.
America's Most Wanted vs Team 3D vs James Gang vs Styles/Daniels ended in a DQ after Bubba got the fans to start throwing their chairs into the ring. :D

I know this will be added to my wrestling DVD collection for sure. :D

Tonight's the night for ECW... anything could happen.

I'll be ordering it, probably the only PPV I'll order this year, since it's the start of something (hopefully) major.
