Killzone 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info

I've sort of been ignoring this game, but my interest level has sky-rocketed.

The cover system looks great as well. It's probably something that's going to be copied in future FPS games.
So, um, is there a collector or limited edition for Killzone 2?
No, there's only one awesome version coming.

Will the CAG nights be clan members only? I ask because I'm considering finding another clan, but coming to CAG nights when I can too.
Ill probably just start my own clan then. Any competitive people are free to join.
Oh no, now we got three groups. Actually I was going to nominate you for leader also and see how this tug-o-war goes. After finally getting burnt out on MGO and getting rid of it, I need a new game to play.

Regardless of who the leader is the CAG nights are open to all CAG members, whether they are in the CAG clan or not.

I really don't care. I just know that there are some other competitive shooter players here and I would have no problem heading that group up. The in-game tournaments and Valor system really appeal to me.
Ill probably just start my own clan then. Any competitive people are free to join.
I was thinking of you and Shrapnellistic being together, since you two are a bit more on the competitive side (don't really care for noobs, care more for stats and so on).

I'd mostly run a group for the medium core and more casual people. Well basically, those who more so care about having fun, not being the top of the leaderboards and whatnot. With my group, there's no denying we'll still be somewhat competitive (kind of like I treat R2. I wouldn't treat KZ2 like I do Warhawk or Burnout Paradise though), but we'd more so be for noobs and getting some people into KZ2 early. Once some advance, they can move onto the other clan if they want (basically, a good clan for some to get into first if they are new to KZ2, like if someone buys the game in May).

anyone know any pre-order threads on this? I have credit at playntrade i need to use up and i believe they match competitors like gamespot, etc.

^^ unless your in KS and prob Kentucky they'll have tax. I used to live in KS and tax sucked but now in FL, no tax via amazon makes me an amazon whore, it's true =D

I got KZ2 in my gold box so it'll be like $54.xx shipped prime. awesome!!

Well, color me conflicted. I love playing w/ CAG on a "when I'm free" basis. I'm also really curious to try Killzone 2 in a competitive fashion, but not sure how much time I can put into "practicing." I enjoy playing games the most when I don't consider it a chore (I'm looking at you, World of Warcraft).

If we are going to have a competitive & casual clan then the respective leaders would need to begin drafting out their "mission statements/scopes" so there is little ambiguity between them, particularly the competitive clan so everyone knows the requirements even before release. This way, the competitive clan can hit the ground running and really represent CAG and no one asking "But what about this...?" or "Will X hours/week be enough?"

'Course, I may be taking this too seriously (yay my engineering background).

Put me down for interested in the competitive clan, pending further details.

That is a good idea
That is a good idea
Yeah, I was thinking the top people, or the ones who badly care about winning tournaments and whatnot be in one clan (we'll also keep the clan on the smaller side maybe, so there's not a big cluster of inactive people). Mostly with the other clan, it will kind of be training grounds and having fun. When KZ2 is out for a bit, once I or others feel someone in the clan has improved and so on, they can be passed on to the other clan. And if someone of the highly competitive clan feels someone should be put in the other clan, kick them off and I'll add them.

Also, just my thinking, the very competitive clan SHOULD all have headsets. My group will accept those without them. I think having a headset is very important, and if you feel bluetooth is too expensive, get a PS2 USB one (or some USB headset) which is like $15 or so.

I decided, this is what we'll probably do:

Thread Leader = ManaKnight (I reserve posts 1, 2, and maybe 3). Smog reserves the post after mine.

CAG Hardcores = SmogItUp (mdam0re as the assistant or something)

CAG (I'll come up with something, either casual, regulars, wusses, or something) = Mana Knight (we'll decide my assistant later)

Rules for CAG Hardcores (some examples):
-Headset REQUIRED (No Headset = NO INVITE)
-Excellent Communication Skills required (meaning, you can't just have a headset on and go without saying a word, you MUST be willing to talk). Be sure your headset is charged before every game.
-Must be VERY serious about winning and topping the leaderboards.
-Must be willing to play as often as you can (If you rather play KZ2 every once in a while, like once every few weeks, and just mostly play other games instead, forget it. It's ok to have another game or two as a priority, but you must be willing to show for important matches IF you don't have an important conflict).
-Must be willing to really work work as a team.
-No playing KZ2 like Mike D'Antoni basketball. Basically, he's a coach where he's willing to let the other team score, but then quickly score right back (just to score more points). That means trying to kill enemies, but at the same time not taking much cover and getting yourself killed way too much (trying to rack up kills by getting yourself killed more by going after several enemies hoping to get one kill, and just keep rinsing and repeating with a very low KDR). Basically, it's what I've done a few times.
-Depending upon how the ranking goes. We might REQUIRE a certain rank, to get in the clan.

Some advantages of being in this clan is there will probably be a lot of clan vs. clan battles, along with possibly playing some of the best. Maybe if there's a competition day, you all can rank high and maybe take it all. If you want to play a ton and be at the top, this is the clan for you.

Rules for other CAG clan (some examples, more will come later):
-Be a CAG member.
-Be willing to show up at some CAG nights, or just play with CAGs in general. If you only want to be in the clan to look cool, then maybe no invite.
-If you buy Killzone 2 in late March, you MUST start out in this clan first. If you are good enough, you will be moved over if you want.
-If you go inactive for 5-6 months, you might get removed.
-Be willing to have a good time. If you lose, just learn from your mistakes and don't sweat it.
-This group is NOT just goof off doing silly things like some would think. We still care a little about competing, but just not at a high level.

Some advantages to being in this clan is we'll have a lot of days where CAGs will play each other, mixing up teams and types of games. Sometimes there may be a clan battle. We'll be very welcome to anyone new to KZ2 or those who haven't played many FPS before. And if you just want to play every once in a while, we are the clan for you.

In my opinion, people should not be playing online without a headset! I cannot stand playing online with people who cannot talk. I am not much for small talk but there are times when a person needs to speak up - like when a team member is down and is calling for support, or to warn someone that they are being flanked.

You can put me down for the non-competitive clan.

I don't actually know how these tourneys are set up or anything yet, so I'm really still undecided. I probably won't look into it any till the game is released.

sweet, I'll prob be in TMK's group. I am serious about my online gaming, but I am not really great so that brings me down lol. I have a headset though =) one thing is I plan to get KZ2 on day one, BUT prob won't get online until I beat the SP mode, so that'll be a week max.. =D

Possibly a stupid question, but since we're talking about them ... is there a headset available like for the 360? I hate my bluetooth thing (came with Warhawk).

The quality is excellent too for most USB headsets.

Hmmm, I dont like the idea of a big wire tethering me to the console, but I think it'll probably be worth it for me. Do you have a link (preferably Amazon) to what you're talking about? Do you own one personally?

Well any bluetooth works on the PS3. I'm sure you can find one that you'll like much better than the Jabra 125. Most people probably hated that thing, it always fell out of my ear.
Official headset is the best wireless headset for PS3 hands down
agreed, so simple to set up, it's designed with the XMB OS in mind, fits great, sounds great, easy to charge. worth the money with or without socom bundle. but I say get the socom bundle either way and sell off etc.

I'll probably in the casual group. Currently I'm using my PS3eye as my mic, Hopefully I'll have enough money to get the game and the bluetooh headset next month.

Yeah I think I'll be in the casual group too. I got school and work on the weekdays but I'm mostly free on the weekends.

So how about KZ2 night on Saturday? It'll just be like the COD4 night.

I'm just debating how I'll divide both games time wise (both will go on), and then still have Warhawk at 11pm EST. One will probably be in the afternoon while the other will get the evening. KZ2 will most likely be Saturday because I'm already busy with Burnout + Buzz on Sunday.

TMK, put me down for the casual group. I got a headset, you know how I do.

I hope to move up to the competitive group, but it'll really depend on how much I enjoy the game. Resistance 2 is still an ongoing project for me. ;-)
I need to get the official headset too, gotta have a mute button.
To mute yourself or people in game?

DO A BARREL ROLL!!!

What's also interesting is the guy not doing the barrel roll. He sees the grenade, but then "realizes" there are bullets flying at him from behind so he turns around. Where's a poor grunt to go?
To mute yourself or people in game?
headset mutes yourself. I use this a lot b/c my gf likes to talk to me when I play games lol
