Killzone 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info

Man, I so wish I could play this game. I am having issues with finding a decent seller for ps3 lasers. So I might just attempt to buy a new 80gb system. It should have the newer duel laser setup, smaller 65mm chips to run cooler, less power etc.

I tried the demo and i'm just not feeling it. Granted the AI is smart albeit not as smart as the first FEAR or first Half Life game. Maybe i'm just burned out on FPS.

Today is judgment day boys and girls!!!! I'll be picking it up when my GS opens in 15 minutes but I won't be able to play it until Sunday night. Add me so I can jump right in!

Just played for about an hour, multi only.

Love love love the map detail, the controls took a bit to get used to, seems they're very loose on default so its a pain getting the aim down at first. Lots of f'in campers too since theres so much detail and lots of places to hide.

Definitely impressed though. I don't think it will come close to topping COD4 in the MP dept, but its clearly the best exclusive FPS for the PS3 to date.

Are you on about the aiming being loose? :whistle2:s

I found it very stiff...had to put the sensitivity up. Most people are doing the same. I think your the first person to say that the controls are stiff. But yeh, it does take some getting used to it.

I was going to buy this game today and play it until my Amazon order comes (Expected delivery date is March 11th-15th or something like that).

Any stores I should avoid doing so from? I was going to pick it up at Target. Should I expect any problems doing what I mentioned at Target? Never done it before.

You should avoid buying it at Gamestop or Walmart. Those places are evil.

agreed, but if you're returning your amazon copy, might as well haha

Bought it from TRU with store credit. It wasn't on the display shelf, so I asked them if they had it in their glass shelves. They checked the backroom, nothing. They checked their packages that they received today, nothing. The lady checked the game in the glass shelfs again and it was there facing backwards vertically (couldn't see the title name). I laughed, but it was cool they went through all that trouble.

The game has just been updated when i popped in the disc. Couldnt find any deatils on it...and the Killzone 2 site is down (again), so cant find out any information there.

Probably will have something to do with the bot thing though.

I just (about an hour ago) finished playing FEAR 2 and I keep trying to use those controls in Killzone. Needless to say, it's not working. I keep hitting L2 to zoom in (like in FEAR) and my dude just crouches.

And then I die.

Guerrilla Games’ Must-Do List For ‘Killzone 2′

The PlayStation 3 shooter we’ve been talking about for years is finally becoming a reality, as “Killzone 2″ arrives on shelves today. We asked developer Guerrilla Games producer Sebastian Downie to compile a list of things “Killzone 2″ gamers “must do” while playing their game — here’s what he said.

Guerrilla Games Developers’ Must-Do List For Players of
“Killzone 2”
(PlayStation Fantasy Garden Simulator, February 2009)
1. On the mine-train in Tharsis Refinery, find the hidden Boltgun and nail Helghast soldiers to the tunnel walls. Its rewarding in more ways than one.
2. After playing online, go to www.killzone.com to view the Battle Replay of your game to see how you can improve your performance. Or you can use it to spy on the tactics deployed by a rival clan.
3. Rank up to Sergeant and create a Clan in-game or on www.killzone.com to take part in massive tournaments of up to 256 clans, or challenge rival clans for ‘valor’, the online currency of the game.
4. Keep an eye out for the [GG] Clan when you are online and see if you can take out a developer or two.
5. In the slums of Salamun District wait till the Helghast rappel from the dropship before exploding the yellow barrels. It will take them out in one fiery blast and often enough their burning corpses will swing from the rafters above. Killzone 2 is all about the burning corpses.
6. Upload your single player stats to www.killzone.com to compare them with your friends for bragging rights as well as catch up on the latest news, content and gossip on the forums.
7. In Killzone 2 multiplayer for search-and-destroy and capture-and-hold missions: select the tactician badge with the speed boost secondary ability to take one for the team. Rush the objective and pop a spawn point making it much easier for your team to gain the upper hand.

8. When playing online search-and-retrieve missions: Let your enemies do your work for you! As the saboteur, Ambush the delivery location with C4, don a disguise, and wait for your enemy propaganda carrier to come by. Once he blows up, you only need to carry the propaganda speaker a few short steps to victory!
9. In multiplayer: Look at what weapons your fallen adversaries are carrying! By picking up their weapons you can end up with some deadly combinations of abilities and weapons, such as the heavy armor of an assault trooper with the LMG of a rifleman; or a cloaked scout wielding a shotgun (Devastating at close quarters!)
10. When playing multiplayer, press the PS button and bring up the XMB. You can then listen to custom music from your PS3 to go with your killing sprees. Nothing says “Kill the ISA scum” like the super swinging sounds of Burt Bacharach.
11. In Maelstra barrens, rather than wasting valuable ammunition on the traitorous Helghast, step on them with your Exo-skeleton instead. Much more satisfying and you might even get a trophy for it.
12. In multiplayer try to place your gun turrets and sentry bots near spawn markers to offer defense for spawning re-enforcements. Also try to place sentry bots or turrets near your own ammo crates. In short, think carefully about where you place support items and try to place them next to other support items.
13. Use the shotgun close range on enemy heads to blow them apart like ripe fruit. Also makes a very satisfying squishy noise.
14. To see what the AI is capable of, why not add some bots to your multiplayer games. They will perform most of the abilities human players can and not complain if you team-kill or tea-bag them.

How many of these are you going to do?

I have only played the demo today, but i am planing to pick this up soon. i really liked what i played. since the default layout is hard to get used to. one suggestion is to change the controller lay out to alternative 2 which is pretty much call of duty's button layout.

Just something I threw together. I guess we're just gonna have to get used to it.

Love the game so far. I do hate how the voice chat is, where it's like CoD. I wish it was like Socom where you need to push a button to talk. I can't stand all the background noise that everybody's mic picks up, and inevitably somebody is going to start playing random music to annoy the whole team with.

I wasn't that impressed by the SHORT demo, but the full version is blowing me away so far.. taking a break after the first two missions. So far so good.

Yeah the controls really ruined the demo for me. The bowling ball picture is spot on. That and the fact that the entire game looks like the only color in any of the levels is grey. Like the first FEAR.
I'll still get it though when I have the money. The multi-player looks awesome.

I want to finish single player before I dive into multiplayer. I played a few minutes of the game. So far, I don't like the controls, but thats because I haven't played an FPS with the PS controller since, who knows.

amen. I had to listen to some guys baby while waiting to join a game. thank god for mute.

Played a few minutes of single-player and a match of multi-player. I forgot how terribad I was at console shooters, although I am getting better.

I hate that I suck but I love the game itself o_O

I'm terrible at multiplayer. I think it's cause I don't have a HDTV but it takes me forever to see the guys. Maybe it was just the map.

Anyways am I believing my eyes correctly or is there no install ? :O

The control schemes they give fucking suck donkey balls.

fuck you Guerilla for mapping crouch to L2 IN EVERY fuckING CONTROL SCHEME!

Why isn't there a snap zoom like COD?

I hate having to push the button to zoom out.

There is a snap zoom. It's under options (although called something else).

I agree with the crouch button thing though.

And that bowling ball pic is spot on.

Yeah, for some reason whenever I toggled it on, it didn't stay toggled.

If anyone hates to click R3 to AIM (and would rather use L1 to AIM), you can switch the controls to Alternate 2 method. It changed R3 to Melee and L1 to AIM. It does make it feel more like other FPS although you don't hold L1 to AIM (if you want to hold L1 to AIM/ZOOM, just change the controls to hold ZOOM). While the controls will still feel heavy, they are intended to (after all, you are controlling around a dude with a lot of armor and wear, unlike R2 or other FPS where you have very little armor.

EDIT: I did play single player. I'm enjoying it so far. So far I do prefer R2 in the single player department, but competitive multi-player is where I give KZ2 the edge.

KZ2 in a nutshell...[/quote]
This is why I'm so hesitant to buy the game. After I played the demo, I put it down and kind of said, "Really? They REALLY did that? Wow..." Just doesn't make the game as fun no matter how "REALISTIC LOL!" you want to say it is.

I don't know If I'm crazy or what. I swear the demo looks better to me than the actual game does then again today has been a long day... The controls are kind of strange. I can deal with them.

This is a game you REALLY need to rent before you lay out the $60 like I did :wall:

Played the demo, took me the whole demo to set up and get used to the controls  The teamates kind of get Navi like yelling at me all the time, "Sev! Sev! Hey! Listen!" I wish it was the little longer, I wanted to see if this is worth trading in (something I rarely do) COD over.

I rented it. I wouldn't spend 60 on it after playing it to be honest. I might spend around 40 for it. I don't like to spend 60 on any game. There is only 4 or 5 I think that is worth retail.

Really enjoying the multiplayer, but the big 32 player matches but 12 or so. It's nice to have bots available when you just can't seem to get enough people in your matches. I played a few rounds with Rolento and had a blast, though I wish more people had actually join the games.

I agree, while I'm having fun with the single player, I found the Resistance 2 single player mode much more fun.

Sooo much whining, we're gonna need a topic dedicated to bitching about KZ2. That way I won't have to listen to it. Actually, we need a General Bitching Topic in the General Gaming forum so everybody can go there can complain.

... Sorry, its been a looong day.

Damn, no kidding. You guys want some cheese with that whine?

I've been watching my gf's brother play it and it looks sick as hell. Can't wait to put my copy in at home.

Single player's a blast. The firefights tend to get really chaotic. I like it a lot.

I suck at finding the intel packets and the Helghast logos, though.

Haven't ventured online yet...maybe after a Taco Bell break.

If you think you're bad at this game, then you haven't seen me play. I aim like a 4 year old. Of course, like any other game it takes time to get the aiming down, but I'm having fun with it. But I think unlocking the other classes is what's driving me to play this a lot.

Played two games of multiplayer body count. I had no idea what the objective was. The first game I didn't get to do much. Our faction was winning and the map looked retarded. Second map, I start pwning. Just natural FPS sense. It looked like others sucked at aiming, which I thought was funny. They'd shoot around my body. I'd shoot them in the face.

Yeah, I need to get a better feel, but I like the multiplayer so far. I need to play on a smaller TV than in the living room cause my head has to swivel around just to see the action.
