Kinect - Gen. Info & Discussion
Sesame Street is $24.99 at Amazon right now! Don't know how long they're keeping it at that price...
I have to ask if it's even worth it. There are a couple or more of Kinect games that are just plain cash-in's. I mean is this even close to worth it is it just family fodder, preying on the ignorance of casuals to games as a whole and licensed games in general?

Sesame Street's an excellent game for children and to play with children. Here's the Co-Optimus review. But if you didn't have kids, it probably wouldn't be for you.

Sesame Street will be 9.99 everywhere soon, its really not a good game and kids get tired of it quickly (my 4 year old neice was not pleased). It also bombed sales wise in europe like all other kinect games in 2011. I would just wait and get anything you had any interest in at bomba prices soon, none of the new kinect stuff is worth more then 10 bucks to be honest.

Wow. That is not an opinion I have heard before. Certainly not how my 4 year old daughter or 7 year old nephew felt, nor the gaming press at large. I'm starting to think you guys might just be kind of crotchety.

Honestly, i think you're seeing a lot of these kinect experiences through rose tinted glasses. By and large, most people who've tried the 2011 slate of kinect games are saying the same thing i am, they're mediocre at best other then gunstringer, and even then i'd rather play that with a controller personally. Fruit ninja is fun but gets pretty boring fast and has tracking issues with kids quite often. Keep in mind i bought kinect day 1 at full msrp, and i love the tech. As far as seseme street, as ive said before, its bombing hard in sales and will be cheaper then chips soon enough. Just wait.

Or maybe you're just so into your own reviews that you believe in something others don't.

Honestly, I feel like Kinect was wasted $ now I don't even use it..not even for a mic. I got kinect sports season 2 and it's still sealed. I lost interest in the first one after awhile and sad to say, but Leedmees was the only other game I thought was okay. They need to release more, better games. I understand it's suppose to be a social thing and all, but they're focusing on a target group of kids mainly and the rest of us are being left out.

Hey, I didn't review Sesame Street. That's the game we're talking about. It's designed for young kids and for parents to play with their kids and in my experience, does a great job. I can find a dozen positive reviews that line up with our experience, but obviously Blitz had a different experience.

Yes, there should definitely be more games for older folks, but that doesn't mean the kids games are doing anything wrong (not the good ones, at least).

I don't know about Sesame Street - my kids are too old for that now - but I enjoy my Kinect. I don't play it every day, but I do enjoy it when I play it. I play Kinect way more than my kids. They aren't into it that much. So from my perspective, Kinect mostly seems to be for adults! LOL. Mostly I like Fruit Ninja and the Kinect Sports games. I haven't tried Dance Central yet.

The only thing I don't like, but it might be related to the beta dashboard update and apps, is that when watching ESPN or Netflix, it sometimes seems to think someone is waving to get it's attention, but no one is. It's driving me batty. I can't see what in the world is tricking it. I guess something with light, but I'm really not sure.

We tried playing tonight after a while of not using the thing, and the sensor will only point up, which means we can't play anything. Has anyone else experienced this?

When you turn on the machine the sensor will point down, then up again, and then stay in the up position. I have tried unplugging it to no avail.

We've already sent it in once for repairs.

Did you try the tuner? It should still find you. But maybe that would get you up and running.

Yeah I tried the tuner and it never corrected itself. I simply adjusted it manually at the risk of snapping the damn thing off its base, and it works fine. So whenever it gets stuck in the up position, such as when we turn it on, we just click it down a few notches manually. I expect it to break in two eventually, but it's the only way to use it.

Is there any content that will transfer over to Dance Central 2 if I had Dance Central 1? Obviously DLC will work but I'm talking about the songs that are on the Dance Central 1 disc. Kind of like the way Rock Band 1 did with Rock Band 2.

You will need the Dance Central 1 manual and the code from that manual will have to be unused. The process is different from the Rock Band 1 -> Rock Band 2 method. It is more like the Rock Band 2 -> Rock Band 3 method.

Thanks. Kind of lame that I have to pay $5 even if I have the original Dance Central. I purchased Rock Band 1 and 2 but never made the 3rd purchase. The novelty wore off by then.

and transferring songs from rockband to another rockband game always costed money

I grabbed Kinect Sports 2 at walmart for $15 on BF and I'm glad I only paid that much, the sports are crap compared to KS1.
Thanks. Kind of lame that I have to pay $5 even if I have the original Dance Central.
The music in Dance Central was licensed to be used in Dance Central and Dance Central only. That same music must be licensed to be used in Dance Central 2. The license doesn't automatically carry over. The $5 is the cost to re-license the content. On Rock Band it was $10.

It is similar to why you don't see certain television shows released on DVD, such as The Wonder Years. The music must be re-licensed so it can be used in the show in DVD form.

It may be worthwhile to license music in anticipation of future use in different media/games/etc., but then the original product would simply cost more.

I got your Shape 2012 and have used it over the last 2-3 weeks like 15 times. It's good. The interface is 100x better than the first one. The push button interface works much better than the default MS hold and hover. I actually wonder if MS is gonna steal it and implement it in the next year or two.

The dance classes are probably the weakest part of the software. Really bland routines and music when compared to dance central 1&2. I can answer any specific questions if anyone is curious.

Did they add the ability to manually adjust the tilt in the calibration menu in the last update? It really helped with my problem of the sensor pointing too high.

Finally got the Kinect during the Black Friday sales. I am having a lot of fun with it so far. Dance Central 1 and 2 are terrific party games. Everyone is loving these two games. I like some of the songs and can even do some of the (easier) dances on hard mode, which is a very fun way to get my cardio.

I added Dance Central to my workout.. So it's now dance, curling bar, dance, bench press, dance, crunches, etc etc.. Who needs to pay for a gym?

Really? I'm enjoying the hell out of golf and tennis (though golf is way too easy) and only fancied bowling on the first one. I'm rather sad that the darts track so poorly, though perhaps that has more to do with the setup I have.

There is a reason kinect game sales went to the toilet, the game quality went right down with it. Its extremely obvious that MS is going to do their big push for Kinect 2.

I actually thought DC2 was good quality. Sesame Street/Disneyland both look like quality kids games. The problem to me is that Kinect didn't sell well. Thus, pricing had to drop in order to get people on board. This is why we saw good sales on the peripheral itself packed with 3 games and these constant sales on kinect games themselves.

Remember last year titles saw tons of B1G1 type sales.

I think you are not aware, Kinect sensor sales are through the roof, they are selling them hand over fist, especially the bundles. The issue here the software is selling like absolute ass, less then 1:1 which is horrific for something so insanely popular. Even my 60 year old boss at work bought one and of course, got 0 games with it. He is content with Adventures and a few demos off of the market.

women at my work have been talking of trading in wii's and getting 360/kinect bundles

dc2 is great I've been watching ebay a bit for gunstringer codes trying to find a decent deal on one

Darts works well for me, so maybe your setup? Darts is my favorite game in the set.

darts was the only one that felt good to me, I don't even know why they put tennis in ks2 ping pong in ks1 plays pretty much the same

played a full 18 of golf with my dad over christmas and we had a blast. Any word on a full on Tiger Woods type golf game using the kinect? I'd be all over that, especially if it allowed for bad shots due to poor form during your swing.

I got DC2 for Xmas and also got to play DC1 at my sister's house and, yeah, the game is good. Challenging, but fun. I think I'm going to have to pick up a copy of DC1 so I can import the songs. The more the merrier.

What happened to KSS2 getting free monthly DLC? There's new DLC that adds 9 more holes of golf, but it isn't free. 400 pts. I guess I'll wait for it to be 200.

I'm actually getting quite a bit of use out of my Kinect.

DC 2 - Haven't had much time to play, but I definitely like the "cooler" dance routines compared to what Just Dance has.

Kinect Sports series - I've been playing this on and off, but co-op with my 3 year old son is a total blast.

Fruit Ninja - I love this game, and if you get a little crazy with it, you can definitely get a good workout from playing. I like to use my legs and feet to slice up fruit from time to time.

Sonic Free Riders - Not sure why this game got so many negative reviews. The menu can be a pain to handle, but the game itself is so much fun and a great workout to boot.l

Fighters Uncaged - I know this game is almost universally panned, but I checked out the positive Amazon reviews and decided to take a chance on it. I went through parts of the tutorial, and I know I'm going to have fun playing this game given the fact that I know how I'm supposed to play it.

Your Shape - I tried out this game this morning, and I'm looking forward to making this part of my weekly fitness routine.

Overall, I'm very happy with my Kinect purchase so far. I still haven't gotten to try out Child of Eden, and I still want to eventually purchase the Gunstringer. However, I'm confident that I'm going to get more than my money's worth from the Kinect.

I played through Gunstringer last week. Awesome but flawed game. It's pretty aggravating falling into a pit even though I yanked my hand up.

There is such a thing as being too open-minded, I think. I mean, even if I had read zero reviews, from an art and design perspective, that game has literally nothing going for it. Kung Fu High Impact doesn't look so hot, but it's still a ten times more creative and interesting take on the same gameplay concept.

Tonight will be the first time the girlfriend will be over to play the Dance Centrals. It's going to be fun seeing how quickly (or not) she gets the hang of it. On new years day my cousins (and all the little cousins) will be over to play. Dance Central, Fruit Ninja, they liked the Gunstringer last time too..

I think Kinect is great for when you have people over. It's a lot of fun.

I'm going to +100 Gunstringer. That was one of the freshest and funniest games I played all year. Great control, fun story, engaging gameplay, killer old-west soundtrack and one of the slickest endings in recent memory. Just be prepared to play in about 5 separate chunks so your arms don't get too tired.

Especially if you can get this off ebay for

Finally got around to cracking open Kinect Sports Season 2. Only had time to play a game of football, which was pretty fun. The field goal kicking on the other hand, I had some problems with.

anyone know how the DC1 import songs to DC2 works?

Will you be able to do the same dance routines or just DC1 songs with DC2 choreography

anyone have an extra DC1 import code to spare? thanks for your help
anyone know how the DC1 import songs to DC2 works?
Input code from back of DC1 like you would do for RB. Pay the fee. Walla DC1 disc songs ported in.

Will you be able to do the same dance routines or just DC1 songs with DC2 choreography
Same choreography. Big difference is how they are scored. They are scored like DC2 songs are. IOW More points.

Anyone else have problems getting The Gunstringer to recognize a second player? We could not for the life of us get it to work. No problems with any other Kinect games I've tried.

I did have that problem - read my review at Co-Optimus for the solution (I think I included it).

Also, did anybody get Haunt?

I tried Haunt and couldnt get into it. I was really looking forward to that one too. It would've been better without Kinect controls, I think.

this game grew on me. At first I thought it was okay. Thought the humor fell flat. But the more I played it, the more I appreciate the variety of gameplay. And more I got how to play it, the more fun it became. At first, it felt like patting the head and rubbing the tummy, with the hands doing 2 separate things.

here's my HD gameplay of How the East was Won. there's just so many different types of gameplay on this level. and the sword play was fun!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMMXEAzcZgw

it was my first time playing the level so excuse my mistakes!
