King's/Space/Police Quest (and LSL) Compilations (PC) $17 at Amazon

Where's the Quest for Glory compilation. Why do my favorite Sierra games always get the short end of the release stick?

Agreed.

Still, buying Space Quest and Kings Quest. Sweeeeeet

I loved these games and wish I still owned their original releases, i'll have to think hard about this ive spent a ton lately...

Oh man those games are so awesome. I still remember one of the greatest gaming moments ever when I was playing King's Quest 1, probably in 1988 or so (maybe a bit later).

We got to the part where you have to lure the goats over the bridge to kill the troll. My friend types "show the goat to the carrot" and the game simply responds "The carrot isn't interested." We laughed for about 10 minutes.

Actually, it's not that funny now that I type it out. Oh well.

I just would like to have a list of the games on them before I order. Is it actually going to have ALL the LSL games (except MCL of course) or do you think these will only include the first 3 games or something? If it has them all I'll probably order all 4 sets.

Most exciting indeed! I hope we they mean they are XP compatible compilations they just dont mean they include dos box in cd. Otherwise it would not be worth they telling two huge fan groups to stop their projects.

Yeah... whichever King's Quest game involved the Minotaur, that was one of my first games (other than the Q-Basic games - Nibbles, Gorillas, etc - that came with DOS), played it over at my grandpa's house when we visited. And he had that same computer up until a couple months ago.

Once a full description gets posted, I'll probably be on top of that. I'll have to compare it with what was included on the Roberta Williams anthology that was released about a decade ago.

My favorite things from Space Quest:

1) Hand icon on ass - "This is a family game!"
2) Licking a building - "Mmm, wildberry!"

The joke in the manual (found in game) was good too.
Q> I have a 5.25 inch disk but Space Quest only comes on 3.5 inch diskettes. What can I do?
A> Well, don't try any artificial lengthening devices, stretching techniques, or pills. None of those things work. We'd also suggest....OH YOU SAID "DISK."

I believe the one with the Minotaur was King's Quest 5. If that was your first one, you really missed out on 2 and 4, the best ones in the series IMO.

Excellent deal for these games, especially with the inflated price of past compilations on eBay.

The only one I remember having the Minotaur was King's Quest 6. I think it had something to do with wandering around in catacombs (which I remember taking FOREVER for me).

Haha, yes, that was it. And I too remember it only cause it was a pain in the ass.

If these come in nice compact modern PC game boxes, I'm buying them all. I already have all but the Space Quest collection but having them all sitting nice and flush on a shelf would be wonderful.

As soon as there are more details such as wether or not it will work on Xp and which games are included I will totally buy all of them. Now if they only had Quest for Glory.

It would be nice if there was more info about these. Nothing on Sierra/Vivendi's website at all. :( Still have the Collector's Editions of SQ and KQ from about ten years ago but it would be nice to have native XP versions of these classics.

Wow, I wish I knew SOMETHING about these. I wonder what they are exactly...Wonder what games are included, if its for XP, what versions of what games will be there since some were rereleased with voice and better graphics etc. I've wanted these back forever!

If anyone finds out please let me know or post it here..

The last sets included all but the (then) latest ones, such as LSL 7. I imagine these will probably include at least as much as the previous release.

It says all the collections are coming out this Tuesday. I'll probably buy the Space Quest & LSL compilations. This is a great price, a few years ago I sold my Space Quest collection for $50!

Maybe I should go see what I can get for mine and rebuy these new ones. :D

Man I remember playing Space Quest IV, that was a blast. But I was bummed out later on because it got toally screwed up on faster computers. It was impossible for me to beat this one part (antigravity thing in the mall) because the game increased to ridiculous speeds when the guards started shooting at you. At least I beat the game on the older computer, but once I got a newer machine I think the game was literally impossible. I guess there were some hacks to fix it but at the time I wouldn't have known where to look. Anyway I would hope these sort of compatibility issues are taken care of in the collections.

Seeing as how Sierra/Vivendi recently closed down the unathorized fanmade Kings Quest 9, meaning that the license is still in use, and given that multiple persons on /. said that the compilation is meant to be XP compatable, I believe these will faithfully run inside the new OS environments. Might not be Linux/Mac compatable without emulators, but I'd bet it will run in XP.

Even if they're not, you can just use DosBox.

These are reformatted to run in XP without a hitch. I don't know if that means they retooled them entirely or just wrote an emulator underneath them.

Basically the compilation just simplifies the process.

I don't what could have possibly inspired them to take a risk re-releasing these games for a "dying genre" on a "dying platform," but if this turns out to really be a XP-compatible re-release, I'll be ecstatic. But then my wallet will weep...
are these being updated in any way????
No, except that they can run in XP. Why would you tinker with a classic?

That's enough of an update right there.

I played the original Police Quest like crazy when I was a kid on the old DOS... I remember always typing in "drop your pants" and then the woman would walk in right after, and the game would make some kind of comment about how you're a pervery lol.

There was also the biker bar where you got pissed on, and giving the sexy woman a traffic ticket where you had the option to get her number instead

Are these being sold at retail anywhere, or just through amazon?

I was borin in 1986 and I just realized I was really young when I played Kings Quest 1. Police Quest 1 and 2 kicked ass. 4 wasn't bad either.

Did anyone else have trouble driving in Police Quest 3 or was that just me?

I don't remember much about PQ3, but I definitely had trouble driving in PQ1. Parking those little rectangles w/o crashing was a bitch for me :\

Oh my god yes! It was really too hard and then you also had to find the right street. On a modern computer its way to fast and impossible even with all those things like DOSbox and CPUkill. Yeah and I was born in '88 I played em when I was 6-11 mostly and they are among my first video games ever.

I absolutely loved these games. They were the reasons that I came to love gaming. They even took me several years away from console games. I loved anything Roberta Williams put her magic touch on....and then it faded soon after Phantasmagoria or whatever it was called.

Could you not give spoilers in a deal thread? Thanks.
