whats funny is if a game tries not to be repetitive, people start bitching about it being all over the place (see brutal legend). You really can't win.
Well I thought games were expensive here:

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/117/1172441p1.html
The US has lower taxes, production costs and a highly functioning commerce system. So, yes, we have lower costs compared to other countries. But what portion of games in the US are made here, and vice versa? What games are popular in the U.K, China, etc? The same? If so, they're most likely not made there so costs involved of getting them in that country apply. I'm not familiar with the industry to know exactly how the world market works, but I'm inclined to propose the U.S has the largest market for "large scale" video game releases and have more of the top companies here.

It appears Amazon is not going to offer a pre-order bonus for I2 so I'm gonna cancel my order later tomorrow and pick it up at Kmart. I don't see I2 having a significant price drop on Amazon either as it's getting great reviews...I get NCAA '12 from Amazon but the lack of pre-order bonus from them is also saddening...

EDIT: Ratchet & Clank All 4 One is the game on my Goldbox offer for 56.99 now if anyone is interested in it it's $3 off MSRP four or so months before release.

what most people are trying to say but failing at explaining it when they say something is "repetitive" is that the things the game gives you to do are not enough fun to last for the duration of the game.

Or they mean there isn't enough variety which is something a lot of games suffer from. You can have someone do the same few actions for 10-15 hours if there's enough variety in the other aspects of the game like the setting, characters, weapons, enemies, etc.

But yeah, almost every game is repetitive, you just don't notice it if there is enough variety or if the action you're repeating is fun enough. (see - Halo 1, Portal, Every Fighting Game Ever)
Thought they said that the original game isn't actually going to be sold separately, only bundled with the game.
Then again, a few months down the line ya never know...
That is correct they will not be selling the first game separately.
Is the deal "The 3rd Birthday PSP $19.99 (Reg. $29.99)" live?
Yes, the store I went to this morning (4214 in Des Plaines, IL) had a placard for the sale price on all the mentioned sale items, 3rd Birthday and Duodecim included.

Grabbed the last copy of Heavy Rain for 19.99. Was hoping to find one not with the Greatest Hits coloring, but I'm not counting on being out by my usual KMart this week, so I settled for the red one.

Usual experience, had to wait a while for someone to answer the button press, about five minutes. He took the sale placard as well when taking out Heavy Rain since there were no other copies. My only gripe is that he had apparently already done the transaction as printed receipt only before I asked to have it emailed; he said he didn't know how to do it any other way.

Well you can hope that gamefly has it for sale down the line.

I'll only get 3rd birthday if its ported to the ngp with patched up controls. A extra analog stick will do wonders for this game. Oh and heavy rain rocks !

My 2 cents:

While I love LA Noire and P2, those games are not gonna be in my library long term.

Only games I've ever kept are MW2, BC2, U1 (b/c it looks like me on the cover....honestly), and a few others that have low TIV.

Abunch of titles that I bought here at Kmart, I got rid of on CL/BB/Amazon TIV.
damn. lots of good deals here! gonna pick up dead space 2 and bulletstorm. thank u thank u
Deep space 2 and bulletstorm sound tempting. I wonder if this work better than buying 2 psn card and resell them to take money out fo the coupon from la noire.

So why bother buying them? Why not just rent them? You can easily beat those games in less than a week, and even with the deals here, you're likely at best breaking even, or more likely, losing money. It'd be cheaper and easier to use Gamefly, or rent from a local outlet.

I just don't understand why gamers (in general, not CAGs, since it's assumed we seek to minimze costs and maximize trade-ins), would buy a game new for $60, play it for a few days, and then trade it back in for half that, or less. It becomes an extremely expensive rental.

All righty folks...I have joined the club. Just got back from my Kmart where I grabbed what looked like the last copy of Heavy Rain (and non GH case as well). Also signed up for SYWR and provided my email to them for it. I don't actually shop at Kmart that much even though it is literally maybe 1/3 mile from my apartment. But, I want I2 and Kmart is the only store known to be offering any sort of deal so far!

So, question on the coupon thing...when I stop by on Tuesday to buy I2, will the coupon print out on the receipt or is it emailed to me or ... ? Also, are there expiration dates on the gaming coupons? I think I may use the coupon the following week when Dirt 3 is on sale, but then again, I may not :>

Because Blockbuster charges almost $10 now after tax for a 5-day rental, and Gamefly you have to micromanage your Q and pray to your deity of choice you can actually get the game you want shipped to you if its a game released in the last 6 months. For those of us in the Midwest, there is Family Video, but you have to put down a $20 refundable deposit on top of the rental fee to rent any "hit" game released in the last 6 months.

Redbox I guess will be another option soon, but given their stock levels in the kiosks and the condition the discs are in (don't complain about Gamestop if you've never rented Redbox) I'm not very optimistic.

Most people are sheep like you said, but what if something comes up during your rental time? What if it's a long game like an RPG? You'd spend almost as much money trying to beat it in a rental than you would if you just bought it.

Coupon will print with game. I believe they are good for 6 weeks now. So would assume 7/17 it will expire maybe 7/24?
that is exactly how i played...the day i got it i played 5 hours straight and every day for the next week or so played for 2-3 hours a day but after that it just started to lose me. No spoilers, but after homicide the game seemed to take a nose dive for me. Even during homicide things started to feel repetitive...

also, just curious, has SHC announced the Zelda OOT deal? I am thinking of picking up a 3DS this month to play this and RE: Mercenaries!
I've been considering a 3DS myself, kinda waiting for some sorta deal, GC, or discount kinda deal anyways, then again part of me tells me to wait till the nintendo 3ds(i)XLoL so who knows what e3 will bring
part of me tells me to wait till the nintendo 3ds(i)XLoL so who knows what e3 will bring
I wouldn't expect a new hardware revision anytime soon, but I'll say this - the current hardware feels really cheap and janky. I expect mine to break sometime down the line.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely circumstances where it's more beneficial to buy than rent. Long RPGs, or games with a multiplayer you'll invest in, or any number of other personal reasons. But speaking in generalities, it just seems strange to me, someone with an admitted bias for collecting games, to buy a game and flip it quickly. It's definitely a "to each his own" thing, I just don't personally understand the attraction to that. I like to keep the things I buy.

E3 conferences and coverage tomorrow, and its shaking up to be interesting. Excited to see what Insomniac shows as their new IP, and I'm hoping for some big bombshell announcements. Expecting some price drops too.

Agreed, wishful thinking. I did play with my friends 3DS and indeed it feels cheap >.<

I guess sales after OOT will determine which way nintendo goes, as it is they are not moving very many units so either a new iteration or a price drop might be considered but honestly not expecting any of that till after 2011 holiday season.

BTW amazon has a good deal on 3rd b-day, Dissidia and FFIV complete :)
I don't see how it is anything like Heavy Rain, Heavy Rain is a QTE based choose your own adventure. LA Noire has no QTEs, and it is very linear with no choosing what path you take. LA Noire was made by the same people who made The Getaway, which it shares many similarities to.
I'm guessing you've never played the Getaway, because no, its nothing like that.

Noticed the new Earth Defense Force isn't listed as being as an upcoming deal. Searched the thread and didn't see much comment on this. Just wanted to pop in to say that I hope Kmart will at least carry it. If my local store has it for the $40 MSRP when it comes out in July, I'll gladly take my business there out of gratitude for all of the great deals Josh and the team have put together for bigger releases.

Does anyone know if kmart will get the balls of steel edition for duke nukem on xbox. Sometimes they carry collectors editions but I already have one preordered at gamestop but am willing to cancel to pick it up a kmart with the coupon

I've seen a lot of people have trouble with Gamefly, but if you use it exclusively for new releases, it works very well. Your place in line is based on when you put the game in your Q, so if you put in every game you're even remotely interested in 2 months before release, you're fine.

I know that is still micromanaging, i do have to go through and delete stuff as it falls off my must play list or i decide to buy it elsewhere, but there has only been one game they didn't send me on the release date(Yakuza 3 damnit) in over 2 years of service.

They are also great for buying a new release that doesn't have any launch deals, as they instantly take over $10 off any game they send to you. Sometimes i hit keep before it even arrives.

i have around $230 worth of Gamestop credit right now so i figured I would just pick one up there and pay $20 plus tax. The only reason I didn't pick one up today was because I'm afraid that Nintendo will announce a new 3DS that is coming out sometime soon. That would be my luck...

Knowing Nintendo they have about 10 3DS unit types already being manufactored.

I'm a med student. Free time to play games comes up erratically.
I'd rather buy'em at release date for a great deal and flip'em down the road to amazon.

I buy books all the time from amazon so a GC is as good as cash to me.
If anyone I know is ordering something from amazon, they just ask me(prime student membership) and give me cash/paypal.

It's not on sale this week.

oh my god, there are so many deals, I can't decide what to use my coupons on

thanks for these great offers!

Pretty awesome deal for Red Faction, might wait and just get it for 39.99. The reviews and lack of previous features are kind of turning me away from it.

I know you can't use a $20 gaming coupon on 1600 point cards, but do the $20 PSN cards come up as $20.00 flat or are they $19.99 as well, thus needing an additional purchase like the MS Points?

/sigh some people ...

Sure Id love to see this week on top before next weeks deals too but I'll take an update over no update... even if it requires half a passive braincell to figure it out

Awesome, heading out to grab one now. I need some money now that the PSN is back up!

Thanks.
Knowing Nintendo they have about 10 3DS unit types already being manufactored.
That would go against Nintendo's handheld history, actually.

When it's a brand new hardware iteration (one that has software you can't play on the previous models), it's generally a little less than a year before a new color (yay?) is released, then another half a year to year before the inevitable sleeker model without new functionality. Once that hits, it's fair to expect a model that actually adds features to at least be announced within half a year.

Anyone who avoided the GBA until the SP was released or the DS until the DSi (or even the Light, over which one can argue whether it was an improvement) would have missed out on close to two years of game releases, and unlike with consoles, waiting for the future model doesn't grant a better price.

I totally understand waiting until there are better games available, though.
Joshh has already said kmart will not be carrying EDF.
Sorry man.
Damn. Thought 2017 earned enough of a cult favorite status that the follow up would be getting a wide release. Guess I'll have to go with Amazon.

Josh, I'm going to the store early Tuesday-ish to get the I2. I'm telling you right now if the coupon doesn't work I'm going to inflict bodily harm on the philosophy major I got in trouble already despite being innocent. So verify that crap or someone gets hurt! Sarcasm is intended but if it doesn't work expect at least a broken POS system.

Searched "Hero" back through 100+ posts plus and didn't see any chatter about it so is it safe to assume all/most stores will be getting a couple Hero Editions of Infamous 2? 41042 specifically.....

I was game only till I saw the actual hero goodies. I want the bag to keep and of course the game. Hopefully extra $40 price tag will be quickly lowered from selling the goodies off individually. Either way i'm going to Kmart tuesday and finally show my PS3 some love, it's been awhile! :D

I edited the post to have the June 5-11th deals at the top. Not sure if the changes show for anyone, but hopefully it'll help.. I just moved the 12 - 18th deals below them.

that's exactly why I quit gamefly. I found a little trick was to empty out your Q of all titles and only keep the new release you wanted in there. Then you'd have to time the return of your previously rented game and then pray you got lucky. When I had my Q full of games I never got anything at the top. I was always getting some game from 5 years ago that I put in as filler.

No deal mentioned yet. . . .I'm hoping they announce it pretty soon. Josh did confirm that they'd have a deal on OoT and RE. I'm very curious about the OoT deal especially since I haven't seen anyone else announce anything decent yet (unless of course you live in a country like Greece).
