The Toys R Us deal was a glitch in the system.
I wouldn't call it a glitch, there were signs for it in the stores. It's not like there was a deal advertised than it rang up differently at the registers.
Best buy had a few good sales combined with their gamer magazine coupons where you were able to get dragon age 2 and shift 2 for $15 each plus the 50% off used games coupon. Then toys r us had the 2 games for $50 which included fear 3, la noire, mortal kombat etc.
No doubt some strong offers but I have no problem putting our entire month against another competitor for June IMO. Not saying it wasn't close at all but certainly we were not "lacking." Just me though, open to criticism if valid.

I can tell you it was definitely not what they intended.
It's a $20 coupon. Which I hope is still considered very good lol!
Agh, KILLING ME. The only problem with that is what exactly do I use the coupon on? I could buy it from kmart, use it on a $20 psn card and buy the feature that comes with a wal-mart purchase  But then the issue comes into play that the coupon isn't valid til the next week and I don't need two seperate purchases as it is a fair bit away to be a waste really.

Hm...
I can tell you it was definitely not what they intended.
Oh yeah, I agree with that :) but they still did honor the Online orders until they sold out.

Was it good, yes. Was it pushing the envelope to steal that Amazon traffic that is lacking due to poor pre-order credits? Absolutely not. Given your family issues and vacation, is that acceptable to me? Sure. But if giving a sliding scale score it was passable at best. Was there an opportunity to seize on? And still is to some extent, although Zelda was huge. But then again I am a harsh critic, especially on myself so :booty:
I ended up buying Professor Layton and...a Turtwig stylus!
Ooh, Professor Layton and the Turtwig Stylus?! That game's hard to find! Of course, all the puzzles are about type advantages and fashion shows, but it works somehow.

I am THANKFUL I had to google type advantages to know wtf that was. Fashion shows made me :censored::censored::censored::censored::headache::headache:

Dang not only is one of the kmart's in our area closing (didn't receive any new stock so no new games) but the other one was completely out of Alice (don't know how many they got) and my $20 credit expires this weekend. Manager signed the coupon though and gave us a rain check said they would honor the credit after it expires since they didn't have what we came in to buy so hopefully it works out and they get more copies of Alice next week or so. Would of used it on another game on my list but they only had Final Fantasy XIII for $30 where as amazon has it for $17.

I have to agree. Except for the TRU snafu, I had no intentions of making any June purchase. However LAN + another game (MK) for $50 changed my mind.

Your deals were great but with needing to finish up some games I was going to wait for the $30 point on those. I don't think it is fair to compare your deals to a complete and utter screw up.

If you can get a Dark Souls preorder lined up, I am game for that. I can say now that I will preorder to get the LE/CE for that and that might be my (new) next purchase.

Thanks again for all of you time and effort.
Pfft. Anything less than a $40 coupon is worthless. I'll just go to GameStop, trade in 15 games to get it and get some DLC uniforms instead. That's a REAL deal...

On a serious note, Josh, any word on either carrying or confirmed deals for the following:
El Shaddai
Otomedius Excellent

No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise

I don't THINK any of those have been discussed yet. Hope I didn't miss it.
Also, any final word on any kind of deal on Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition? I know we can't expect much of a coupon since it's only $29.99, but can't hurt to ask.
Thanks for answering!
I don't know about Otomedius Excellent, but Josh has said the following:

-Kmart stores won't be carrying El Shaddai, so there won't be a deal for it.
-There will be a deal for NMH: Heroes' Paradise.

I think the two best benefits Kmart could get by the preorder system would be 1) finally getting all preorder exclusive bonuses and 2) being able to carry small amounts of niche titles. My tastes don't generally run too niche, but there have been a few games that were disappointingly absent from their shelves. Hopefully once the online and preorder components become fully in place, we'll see those benefits develop.

Personally,
A) I couldnt care less about preorder exclusive bonuses.
B) If there is a preorder of a niche title, what are the chances that there would be a deal on it.

I'd rather see trade-ins than preorders.

I don't shop at K-Mart because we don't have one within 50 miles, but I may be willing to drive to one to get my father-in-law a PS3 for his birthday if this deal's as sweet as it sounds, so I have a few KMart newbie questions about the PS3 deal...

1) I'm assuming that the $50 GC stacks with the two GH games, and this is available in-store?

and

2) Since it says it's a gift card, does it work in the same way as a gaming coupon, i.e. not being effective until the following Sunday?

Thanks.

They do stack, but just keep in mind that the GC deal is only for the Black Ops bundle.

It's unfortunate that you live so far away because there's no guarantee that everything will be in stock. You may want to email Stock Boy to see if he can check for you so you don't waste a trip.

And I agree that the GC should be available to use immediately so you could get something right away since it's so far away.

I think my criticism (if that) was valid. While you had deals for games with coupon offers, overall there were better deals that didnt involve kmart at all. There were several Buy 1 get 1 half off deals. Other store coupons that stacked with sale prices. Im not always looking for the new releases. BB Zelda offer was buy zelda and another 3ds game, get a $25 GC. I got Zelda and Blazblue for $65 total plus the $25 giftcard. Kmart couldnt beat it and that was probably the months hit game. Those were just some of the deals. Im not going to list them all and im not asking for you to give me a $40 coupon and a free game in order for me to go into kmart. Sometimes, I just want good sales on old games. Sometimes I want a buy 1 get 1 half off with sale prices. Every other store does it but you guys. All we get is the Buy $120+ worth of games, get a $60 coupon but those come like once a year/not often enough.

I'm sure it was just a slow month or it had something to do with your personal issues (which im greatly sorry for you btw). I wasn't even trying to be harsh or a hater. I was just expressing an opnion. I sitting here with my $20 coupon i got for LA noire and it expires in 5 days and I have nothing to use it on.

Hello Josh, do you think you will have any ps3 deals in July? The current black ops deal sounds great but kind of impossible to find in the stores.

bleh I think I may have lost my first coupon.. can't find the one from shadows of the damned.. hope I can find it for next week. I always keep them in the same place but it's not where I usually have them..

One last thing? Whats it gonna take for you to get some Kmart exclusive Preorder DLC? If your sales numbers are good and getting better, whats the hold up? Walmart gets them, why not you? I can guarantee you that if you got some, you'd probably get more sales/preorders.

Companies hesitate to do those as it requires several different distributions of the same game. So your production is complicated if one retailer sells less or more than expected so now a game two months after release is sitting on shelves facing markdowns to move or being sent back to you. Large retailers get differing bonuses as it makes sense as the product flows faster and allows the free market to do it's thing. Kmart is not exactly a gaming hot spot as of now, so pending further numbers I'd anticipate generic releases. There will be test runs of promo offers to see redemption rates, no doubt.

Really? My store received in a ton and have sold maybe one or two. If you are going by what is in the case I would definitely ask because I work in a low volume store and if we got 15ish I can only imagine other stores would get at least that.

You know what really impressed me with my first coupon experience at K-Mart? The cashier was able to send a copy of my receipt to the email associated with my card. This also included a copy of the coupon I received at the register, so if I lose it, I'm pretty sure I can print out the coupon from my email and still use it. Of course, the coupons are individualized so the same coupon can't be used multiple times. This was a really handy feature I thought.

Fair enough. I guess my point is that any increase in other competitor offers doesn't mean we've slowed down necessarily.

Best Buy had a great June for sure! I can't take that away from them. We still had offers that were better than theirs and they had some that beat us. But you said the sales had "slowed down." There were more offers in June than April or May from us. Only March could probably have been better from us this year in terms of overall value. In the last month and a half we have hit almost every new release this year with a stand alone save message that stacked with coupons.

I totally accept your respectful criticism, I just disagree with it :)

Note: I think it is arguable that Buy Zelda get a $15 gaming coupon was not equal to buy 2 3DS games get a $25 gift card. Just sayin' :) It kind of depends on what an individual is looking for more than the quality of the offer in general.

Completely right here. Kmart is in the top 6-7 retailers for gaming, we could probably tap out at #4-5 if all things were firing on all cylinders just based on store count/areas etc.

I'll definitely push for more DLC but you are totally right, there is a gap between the top few accounts and the rest of the nation. Over 90% of all pre order activity usually is between two retailers in particular.

I guess youre just missing my point. I don't always want the new releases. Sales on old games would be nice. I gave some examples of them. I don't need duke nukem at release. Why should I have to buy it to get a coupon. Why can't I get the coupon with other games or do that "buy $120 get $60 offer" again. I can then pick up 5-6 DS games or 3 other titles. Thats my thing. Your lack of offers for older titles.

Definitely not missing it. Again, I just respectfully disagree in the "lack" of offers. The second week of June if I recall had a save $20 message on most new releases that had come out this Q2. We've hit every release with a savings message after launch if I am remembering correctly. I think the two that standout though that haven't receive more than a $10 or $15 discount would be LA Noire (for obvious reasons - that launch offer was ridiculous) and Brink which kind of pisses me off, I wanted to hit that one very hard.

I don't want you think I'm being picky. I'm sure you're doing the best you can. I just notice that BB seems to be making a strong push again. I went there for all my gaming needs and that hasn't happened in months. It just appears wrong for some reason.

Anyway, once again, thanks for your excellent help and sorry about your great loss.

Who do you think pays for the coupons? The magical coupon fairy? Do you ever stop to listen to your unreasonable complaints?

Publishers aren't paying retailers to promote Alan Wake in 2011.

A couple of other people mentioned this in their purchases and it definitely happened in mine: the gift card is automatically taken from the price. They don't actually give you anything.

The cashier starts ringing everything up and a $50 gift card flashes across the screen, they have to press to accept it. They ring up the games and when it's time to total it out, everything is deducted. Be sure to provide your SYWR card or sign up for one before you begin.

Thank you for the kind words, much appreciated. I'll definitely take what you said and keep it in mind.

to be honest josh you guys are doing a very good job and the fact that other retailers are competing is not your fault.

handsome bitch should just be happy there's competition and go with whatever retailer is best for your needs and wants. Competition is good for consumers.

Josh isn't ignorant to what other retailers are doing when he's making these deals with publishers. I think you're also not understanding how tying these coupons to certain releases is important to how deals are worked out on his end.

Coupons are tied to new releases to emphasize and move that product. if every week was just a 'buy $120 get $60" offer no titles would be highlighted and sales would slow overall.

There's probably plenty of people who only buy certain releases week one because of josh's deals. Publishers see the value in that from the coupon offer perspective, not to mention the importance of hitting sales numbers first week due to marketing push/expenditures, used sales, and increased competition from newer games in later weeks.
Thank you josh. Sometimes I wish some of your defenders would take your approach and answer questions without the attitude. Have a good night.
Josh has to be nice to everyone regardless of what nonsense they spew. It's why I'm glad I'm not him.

I don't understand why people would be upset if they feel another retailer has "beaten" kmart's deals. Isn't that great for you? Why complain??

Josh,
Quick question as I know you have had a lot to catch up on this week but have you gotten through your e-mail back log yet? I sent you a message last Monday and have yet to get a reply back. Should I send again?

Josh usually posts on here when he has replied to all messages and if you didn't receive a reply to send it again. He has yet to do that from what I read so I say just give him time for now.

Hey josh,

Just wanted to thank you for the black ops deal.

Had my la noire coupon about to expire and figured id buy some points...

Well, saw the black ops bundle out of the corner of my eye and was intrigued. Saw heavy rain gh, saw killzone 2 gh...done deal.

Helped the cashier with the process, left the store with the black ops bundle, heavy rain, killzone 2, and a 50 dollar gift card for 300 bucks...

Awesome deal man, never wouldve gotten a ps3 otherwise...

Keep up the great work. I look nowhere for games these days...
I was wondering that too Josh. Sent you couple messages. Let me know.
I am trying to get back with everyone tonight and tomorrow, I have about a 160 left to go. Usually takes me about 3-5 minutes per issue.

Awesome! For those that are able to get on this I am so happy. It is a ridiculous offer.
Hey what's the deal with THIS

Is kmart really selling the Xbox 250GB Slim model for $240 or was it a pricing fluke for that week?
Uh, I hope this isn't true!
