Last Movie You Saw Strikes Back
Well, even though I've been around long enough to have seen the previous Batman movies, I haven't. It has also been long enough since I've seen the cartoon that I can't remember exactly how his voice sounded. My point being I think I benefit from having no preconceived ideas of how I thought the movie should have been. I realy enjoyed it and now I'll think about seeing the others. Maybe I'll buy the animated series too... Any recommendations on which volume to get?
Start out with the first animated version by Bruce Timm. His work basically reinvigorated the superhero genre. Long gone are the cheesy concepts from old 70s shows such as the superfriends as well as the stilted and low production values. The Batman that he showed introduced a Batman waist-deep in his War on Crime and a seasoned veteran of how to dispose of his enemies without killing them. Plus the art style is reminscent of the old 1930s serials with a touch of noir to give it some extra flavor. The first two seasons were the best but everything after that seemed to start falling into a lull since I think the show's writers were starting to run out of ideas. Even a change of the show's name (Batman & Robin: Gotham Knights) didn't seem to affect the quality - low. So I'd go for the 1st and 2nd seasons. You're welcome to check out the next seasons but I don't think that they were the best of the animated storylines.

Batman Begins

It was fairly good, but, similar to Spiderman 2, I was disappointed since it just didn't seem worthy of the high critical praise it has been receiving. I dunno, maybe if I'd had some kind of exposure to Batman before I would have liked it more. As it is, I would have been just fine waiting for it on DVD. It certainly wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't as good as I'd expected.

And one thing I had major beef with was the action scenes. I absolutely hated the close up shots of the action mixed with the lightning quick cuts; instead of making it exciting, it just made the fights confusing and something of a low point of the movie.

Yeah, last movie I saw was Batman Begins.

I really liked, strike that...reverse it, I really loved it because they took time to introduce you to the character and what motivates him to go out and risk life and limb. Very similar to Peter Parker's introduction to the film world.

Movies: Spiderman 2
DVD: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Extended Edition)
TV (HBO): Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!
The Magnificent Seven
Nice. Now watch The Seven Samurai.

I just saw Batman Begins. It transcends the comic book film genre.

Boot Hill - Excellent Spaghetti Western/Comedy. Plus it only cost me a dollar from my local .99 cent store, which doesn't tarnish it one bit. I'm sure our resident CAG Film Buff, Modium, can attest to that.:D;)
Gods and Monsters

Excellent film with simply a wonderful performance from Ian McKellen. Check it out.
'Tis on IFC later this week. ;)

I just finished Night and the City. Damn fine noir, that one.

Hey, I borrow movies from the library AND am on a free trial to BBO, in addition to Netflix. I'm ALL ABOUT the cheapass movies. :D I'll have to keep an eye out for that one next time I'm rifling through the cheap discs. Didn't know I was a resident Film Buff either, but I think we may need to hold an election so Zman can whoop me properly. ;)

Just finished up Les Dames du Bois de Boulogne. Was pretty good, nice to see a woman being a manipulative beeotch in a movie. Feels a little more realistic that way.

Agreed. Good movie. Didn't know someone else other than me had heard of this movie. really, the whole Trinity trilogy/series of movies : Boot Hill, They Call Me Trinity, Trinity Is Still My Name are excellent and can be all had for the cheap price of $3. That's what I paid for them at my $.99 store also, :D
I'm about to watch Matrix Reloaded w/ philosopher commentary.
Finished it tonight. I might watch Revolutions w/ commentary tomorrow, we'll see how it goes.

I have one of those public domain / bootleg-like copies of the DVD as well. I love the Trinity series and the Trinity-esque Terence Hill films of the same genre.

You should try to get a hold of "My Name Is Nobody". Excellent Terence Hill / Henry Fonda spaghetti western, hatched from an idea from Sergio Leone. Hill plays the same dirt-bag filthy, laid-back gunslinger that he does in the Trinity series -- except this film is more polished.

Did the damn thing. Next is American Psycho w/ commentary.

EDIT: Watched it. New rank to commemorate the occasion.

Vera Drake

An excellent drama, with an outstanding performance from Imelda Staunton (although it must be noted that the entire cast was great too). A highly emotional film (be warned, the second half contains much crying).

I am a reasonable man. I would be perfectly willing to share the title with you and rule CAG as the resident Film Buffs. That is, if you are up to the responsibility ;)
Thats the Che Guevara one right?
Yes it is.

I've just done probably 5 searches and haven't come up with the first last movie you saw thread. Anybody think they could help me out and find me a link to the old one. Want to look through that one to find some movies.
Thanks Mucho!:D:applause:
No problem. I just had to search my own posts for "Lost in Translation" and it was there a few times within the 20 results. 21.

Just saw a movie called 'just Friends' with Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart...pretty funny. It was one of those sneak peak previews.

Freaks

Excellent, very unique film. Trust me, you've never seen anything quite like it; certainly not the type of film you'd excpect out of a major Hollywood studio circa 1932.
Criterion? 2 disc or 5 disc?
Of course, Criterion, silly ass. I watched the original television version, which is only on the 5-disc. Y'see, Bergman originally did it as a miniseries in Sweden which ran 312 minutes in total, and of course, they'd never do it that way in America or other countries. So Bergman reluctantly cut it down 3-hours for theatrical release, and that's what the 2-disc set has. But the 5-discer has both versions.

Edit: And my thoughts. :D

House of Flying Daggers - Wonderful film. I very much enjoyed it. At its core it's a Romeo and Juliet story, but done very well. I must say that I enjoyed this film far more than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but less than Hero. Hero is the tops for me for this type of Asian film.

I wanna see this film now. Time to see if Hollywood Video has it, probably not so I might have to go Netflix on this one.

It's simply rapturous.

Damn. It was already on the DDD list, I'll just have to be sure not to trim that one.
