I jsut finished Casshern and all I can say is wow. It was a phenominal movie, wth some of the best cinematography ever, but it was also one of the most depressing movies i've ever seen (beating even Grave of the Fireflies). I'm currently on the verge of tears from it.

Everyone, find a way to see Casshern now.

Being John Malkovich. The best part in the movie-John Malkovich takes a journey into his own world. Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze movies rule.

Garden State
Nightwatch (Russian SciFi flick which is coming out in the US soon a la Kung Fu Hustle but if you've got an online dvd sub, you can watch earlier than it's stateside premiere).

Simon of the Desert

I wonder how modern audiences here would react if they saw something like this in the theater. Fairly simple (by Bunuel standards) story of a deeply religious man who climbs a column to be closer to God, and pretty much just fasts and preaches. Then, at the end, he's transported from biblical times to 1960's NYC via commercial jet, where he watches a surf rock band play and continues to be seduced by the devil. I'd love for someone to make this, just so I could watch everyone in the audience scratching their heads and wondering wtf they just saw. :D

i saw kingdom of heaven last night, and it was good. my only complaint is that the story moved so fast, i really think this movie should have been an hour longer, its almost too fast paced

Totally agree. It probably should have been a two part film i.e Kill Bill. Some of the action scenes were amazing while others were flat. I thought Orlando Bloom did a good job but he's no Mel Gibson (Braveheart) or Russell Crowe (Gladiator). Don't expect to see "Braveheart" but it's a good movie definetly better than Alexander and Troy(IMO).

Kill3r7 and iheartmetal, are you guys in luck if you can be patient.
Ridley Scott's already looking at a longer cut of his Kingdom of Heaven to debut onto DVD. The theatrical version of his Crusades epic, which tells the story of the fall of Jerusalem in 1186, clocks in at 145 minutes. In a recent interview Scott stated that a more ambitious 220-minute version is in the works. Look for the theatrical edition disc set to be released later this year, and a full four-disc extended special edition on tap for 2006.
Requiem for a Dream.

Holy god that is going to stay with me for a while, in a bad way.
When I first saw that (with a group of people) I was the only one who wasn't depressed after. Well, at least not anymore depressed than I had been prior.

Great great movie.

It makes me either want to bump up Pi higher on my list, or go out and buy the two pack. Brilliant movie, but god damn, I feel horrible now.

I almost watched Pi again Friday night, but apparently one of my friends has something against B&W movies, so we watched Garden State instead.

I'd say just get the two pack, it's cheap enough.

How does it compare to Requiem? I probably will do that, as it's like 14 for both movies.

It's good, but I wouldn't put it on the same level. Requiem is a top ten (maybe top 5) movie for me.
