Left 4 Dead - Gen. Discussion & Info

Damn gamestop wont get this till noon tomorrow. Weak!

Someone set up a CAGL4D so we can get right into it.

Man, Ign has the worst voice over aside from gamestop. Christ its like daggers listening to these guys.

FYI I tried adding that tag but Xbox Live said it doesn't exist.
I registered "CAGL4D" so, if you're interested in joining the group, I'll add you ASAP. :)
Awesome, I should have it from Amazon soon. I got the free shipping, so who knows when I'll get it.

What do you mean? A dummy account to use the Friends of Friends feature?

Demo's great, I'm thinking about buying it, but I already have so many games. Tough decision.

I Am down for some online play tomorrow.

I'll be picking it up at around noon (along with a gold subscription card) and will probably beat single on normal to get a feel for the game, but then its online for the rest of the day.

Yep! Does the NXE update do something different now? Also, I'll be sending out invites today if the FoF Feature is still available.

I was reading on neogaf that a the typical time it takes to play through a complete "movie" is around 1.5 to 2 hours. Holy Shit! I don't think I have that amount of time to devote to playing each night and I really have no interest in the single player game at all.

I was going to do the Gamestop "trade 2 get a new game for $20" deal for L4D but now I'm not sure. I love the demo but having to set aside an hour and a half just to play through one level isn't going to work for me I don't think.

Once you guys start actually playing, give us an update as to how long it takes to make it through a level.
The ign review said the 4 scenarios take 30 minutes each. Therefore the whole game = 2 hours
At Normal difficulty.

Once you start going to Advanced or Expert, it is going to take much longer. Hell, it can take 30 minutes to beat the 1.5 level demo on Expert.

I'll wait until you guys tell me this is wrong, I can't pick up the game until later this week anyway.

A heads up to those that pre-ordered at GS. I just picked up my copy and was halfway home and notice that they didn't take the $5 off for pre-ordering. Went back and the employee fixed it.

same thing when I picked mine up.

apparently there was something in the early beta email we all got that we needed to print out and bring with us when we bought.. All I saw was the beta code..Though I wasn't really looking for anything else in that email.

First playthrough on Normal difficulty on the No Mercy scenario took 1 hour 15 minutes, but it could be due to a crappy team.

WTF the WHOLE game takes 2 hours to beat? I understand it's supposed to be different each time, but how different can you make the same 2 hours of gameplay?
You guys don't play TF2 much, huh?
But that's competitive. It's different. It's not as fun playing against mindless CPU zombies over and over in the same scenarios as it is against actual human players.

PS. I'd poop on you in TF2. :)

you can also play as the zombies vs humans ya know

speaking of online play anyone up for it?

all may add geshaw3

I hope this game has a somewhat long life. After paying for Resistance 2 CE, MK vs. DC KE (when it was listed for $60 on Amazon), and Last Remnant (when it was $40 on Amazon), I really can't swing this right, now.

hey gareman would love to join.. but my 360 is gone to shit again.. the video is all messed up.. everything is green, wouldn't want to play on expert like that. Thanks for the invite though.

go back a page.. I brought that up... same thing happened to a couple of us.. Did you say anything? I mentioned it to my GS employee and he corrected it no problem.

Yes, I brought it back in and they said it was a system wide error and that I would have to bring it back when a manager was there.

I'm on hold with GS right now...

Yeah I know. I wouldn't be posting in this thread if I didn't know about the game.

The core of the game is the co-op, people seem to misunderstand this somehow.

Maybe I'm wrong and the competitive multiplayer, but from what I've been reading, that's not the case.

TF2 was made to be a competitive shooter from the ground up and had a storied lineage with the original TF for quake and TFC, while L4D was built to be a co-op game, with an added multiplayer feature which IS NOT a core part of the game. The game is billed as a co-op game, which is completely different from a competitve multiplayer game and people seem to misconstrue that.

I played CS and TFC for 4-5 years because of human competition. If those games only ever had bot support, you really think CS would still be played or that TFC would have spawned TF2? Hell no. Human competition is the core to those games and co-op is the core to L4D. Unfortunately, I just think that having co-op 4 player playing against CPU zombies is just not as fun as human players.

I hope I'm wrong since I'm picking up the game in like half an hour. I hope that the co-op can last beyond even just 6-8 hrs before you get bored of going through the same movies over and over.
Not to troll, but I played the demo and I just couldn't find myself paying 60 dollars for this game.
Did you play the demo with multiplayer, and was it above the "Normal" setting? If not, I understand why you didn't like it.

If you want it to be fun, up the difficulty, and play with people online or with friends, then you'll see where this game shines.
