It was really the tail... no really! "Schwanz" means both tail and penis!

BERLIN (Reuters) – Visitors to a tourist attraction in Berlin have been making off with an unusual memento -- the 30 cm long penis [someone was jealous...] of a Lego giraffe.
The Lego phallus belongs to a six metre tall model that has stood outside the entrance to the Legoland Discovery Centre on Potsdamer Platz since 2007.
"It's a popular souvenir," a spokeswoman for the centre said Tuesday. "It's been stolen four times now ..."
The penis is made out of 15,000 Lego bricks. It takes model workers about one week to restore the long-necked animal's manhood at a cost of 3,000 euros (2,600 pounds), the spokeswoman said.
The centre is now erecting a metal construction to protect the giraffe's genitalia. (Reporting by Caroline Copley, editing by Tim Pearce)

After the second or third time I think I would have officially made it a girl giraffe and saved a couple thousand dollars.

Germans...are any of us surprised that Germans are making anatomically correct Lego giraffes?

So here's a LEGO savings pro-tip that may save you a couple bucks every now and then ...

For those of you with a few Borders Bookstores in your area, there are certain Borders that stock LEGOs in the kid's section of the store. Often it's one or two sets, but on occasion you can find certain stores that stock a larger variety ... usually the smaller sets up to around $30 sets. These might include Star Wars, IJ, Space, Pirates and City.

Now these sets are the same price as LEGO stores, so you avoid the TRU tax ... but that's not the deal.

The real savings comes when Borders drops their 30% and 40% off coupons, which unless specified include toys. Currently Borders has a 30% off coupon (http://www.bordersmedia.com/coup/coupon300701.asp) ... so it's not a bad way to get a nice discount on LEGOs.

With that said ... I've only found 1 Borders in my area with a large stock of LEGOs ... so look around multiple stores and you might get lucky. Getting the IJ Car Chase for $22 and the new IJ Marketplace for $9 after tax was pretty sweet.

Coupon says you have to be a member, so does it cost anything to be a member and/or do they really check your membership card when you use the coupon?

It's free to join. It is a reward program, so you earn 'dollars' to spend during the holidays. I don't buy enough books (especially at Borders) to earn anything, but free is free...and I do get the coupons.

My sons take advantage of this every so often, especially my youngest. Their grandmother likes to give them Border's gift cards, and while they love getting books, they sometimes have a backlog that rivals my own. If they can't find something during a trip, we'll let them use it on toys or such. My youngest picked up Vader's TIE with the last 40% off coupon and a gift card.

If you do the e-rewards thing, you can get $15 border bucks with only $15 reward dollars earned. You only get 1 reward a year though.

I'll have to check because i'll crap a lego brick if any borders around me has any. they closed the Waldenbooks that was in the closest mall, and I'm going to have to travel to the east side to get to one.

Yep, I do the rewards thing as well.

Rather than travel, though, just give them a call. It's not like a clearance or price mistake kind of deal, you're just checking stock. I can't remember the last time I met an unhelpful Border's employee.

Lol, when I read this on another site, it mentioned the giraffe's tail, not the other part.
S@H is accepting backorders on the Cement Mixer.
well I ordered, but shipping kills it, but I did pick up a battle pack and I won't see any of those around here.

sucks.

oh well.

As far as storage, after I build a set for the first time, I dismantle it (COMPLETELY...not just into chunks small enough to fit back in the box, which seems to be the habit for some folks based on used sets I've gotten off eBay) and those go into a quart or gallon Ziploc bag -- usually just one, but more if necessary. That along with the instructions go back into the original box.

Complete dismantling is important, IMO, because nothing ruins a build like having large chunks of the model already assembled. 75% of the fun of LEGO build is seeing the clever way things fit together.

I have a previous post that mentions my star wars lego sets for sale. If anyone is interested PM me with a price and we'll go from there.
Thanks

Tomorrow, Sept. 1, is the free mini build at the Lego stores for kids. Also starting tomorrow they are running a related contest. Kids can build their own mini build for the month of september 2010. Each store will have a winner or two, and then one outta those will be picked for the actual model for next year. Check your local store events page on S@H for more details.

BSCV29 - 5 off 20

what it did in my cart was take of 20% off each item... weird. that or it split up 5 off between all items.

Picked up Troll battle pack reg 14.99 now 11.99 & PaB 9.99 now 7.99.

shipping was standard, total was 24.93 something.

Of course no tax for me :D only perk I have now  PaB was expensive but I picked up 77 elements and with the discount it washes out to my "normal" "justified" price.

I also grabbed the 30% off one item at Borders... picked up the King's battle chariot. Was 19.99 spent only 13.99 plus tax. Didn't have much, mostly small sets >$20. They did have two spongebob sets too.

Will have to abuse those coupons in the future.

Cement mixer backordered again, but don't you guys order any...if it goes out of stock I won't be able to order it with free shipping tomorrow!

well ended up using that Kmart coupon one last time. nabbed a generic pirate creator set, and the pirate raft for only 16.64 after tax.

Prices went up for all items, about a dollar on most, fifty cents on everything else. WM is doing that too... 20.88 for an item that used to be 19.99.

I was going to get the tower drawbridge defense but the price would be 35 and didn't think it was worth it that much. But if TRU doesn't have a sale... I don't know where I'm going to justify $40 now.

I was hoping maybe a b1g1 50% off.... then 30 would be fine for two sets, but TRU is impossible for matching sets.

maybe hope and pray for something else later.

I stopped at a Kmart out of town and noticed that the sets we've seen on clearance were not only regular price, but they had newer stickers with markups from $1 to $5!

Luckily, they haven't put clearance stickers on the sets at my local store so they will survive a while...until they do put those yellow stickers on them. Hopefully we'll get another 20%-50% off clearance items sale before that.

Got the Sept. calendar while at the Lego store yesterday. You all know already that the Green Grocer is $30 off starting Sept.4 and going through the 16. Two new exclusive sets go on sale on the 4th also:

Fire Brigade - http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10197-1

Tantive IV - http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=10198&cn=240&d=322

Also Sept. 21 through 24 you can save $25 off of Town Plan. Doesn't say whether this is in store only.

Coupon is a free Mini V-19 Torrent with $75 Star Wars Lego purchase. Yeah, this is the same mini ship that was on sale at Target in the Easter candy section this year. Nice little ship, not so nice incentive to spend $75.

Stopped at a Borders store near the Lego store too. They had quite a few of the newer SW releases, IJ, SB, Castle, and some Creator too. Biggest set they had was the Flying Wing and Creator Beach House. Already own most of these, though I'll keep them in mind next time I want to buy a newer set.

Last thing I noticed from the Upcoming Events section on the back of the calendar for you poor Red Sox fans...

Lego R2-D2 Master Builder Event
Sept. 11-13
South Shore Plaza
Braintree, MA

I took my kids to one of these last year and we had a blast. Its mostly kid oriented but still neat to see how they build it over the weekend. Worth a trip in my opinion.

Edit: I ordered the Cement Mixer in store for free shipping since they were out too, saw my email when I got home...back-ordered until NOVEMBER 24???????????? Wow, only three months...WTF?

Wow...This is the first I've learned of the Fire Brigade set. Have to add that to the list. It figures that the only city block set I already have (Green Grocer) is the one going on sale.

And I feel ya on the backorder. I just got an email yesterday that the Peril in Peru I ordered 3+ weeks ago is now backordered. At least they gave you a prospective shipping date.

I was lucky when I got my order in. I got them in the standard time frame. Backorder means it's still going to be made, at least you will get it rather then sold out.

the Fire Brigade is pretty awesome. somebody over at Eurobricks bought one and took some pictures. It's great. The truck seems off a bit though.

Heads up, there is free shipping on lego.com with any $75 or more purchase. Pretty nice deal for those of you wishing to pick up some of the more expensive Lego exclusives who don't happen to have a Lego Store in your state since there won't be tax either.

well tax savings on 75 might be worth it.

might have to hit up the wife and go halfies on a big set....

The free shipping normally last until November 30th so no rush.

Also TRU Birthday is coming up soon and they always have a B2G1 free on LEGO.

Oh Exciting, I might spring for some big sets.

Do you know the exact dates? I'd like to go asap so that they don't clear out.

I have it, and really like it. Fun to put together, nice to display.

Green Grocer is probably the best set I've built ... the design of the building is great ... and it's big too, not like most LEGOs that look big on the box but end up as substantially smaller builds. I would highly recommend it, even at full price. It's simply the best of the modular builds ... even better than the new firehouse in my opinion.

It's usually the late teens. 16-18ish. Just a guess, I have no insider info.

Last year, the TRU sale was B1G1 half off and was the week after Thanksgiving. I don't think there was one in the September-November timeframe.

anyone could scan the sail for set 7029, I like the sail but not the ship too much.

I can't find anyone selling one so I could have it.

I was hoping to make a MOC and a truly better ship myself.

A good Letter size scan of it, would be wonderful!
I got the fall 2009 shop at home book. It says free shipping now thru October 12, 2009
Cheap bastards!

It almost always gets extended from November 1st to November 30th. Might be free on $100.

Au contraire. A day or two after receiving the backorder notice, I received an automatically generated e-mail stating that my order had been canceled. No apology. No alternate options.

I sent them a complaint letter mentioning that this was the second time in about 15 mos. that I've been screwed by LEGO Shop @ Home, and got a response today of a $10 coupon plus free S&H. Meh. I'd rather have Peril in Peru for $26. But that's not gonna happen, apparently. :bomb:

To give the poor people in CT credit, it's not their fault, it's the "new" third party assholes that LEGO hires to do the shipping and everything. They are in TN.

Kmart is giving an extra 20% off clearance prices for toys. I picked up the Flying Wing for $33(after 20% off). Tower Raid was $20.40, Creator Spider was $8.80, and SW Magnaguard was $30.XX. My store still hasn't marked them as clearance so I'm hoping they will make it to the next round of drops. Only one flying wing left, so I figured $33 would probably be the lowest I'd find it for a while.

TRU is also running a "train" sale. I know it includes Duplo trains, but I remember seeing a store or two that has one of the bigger, regular train sets too...though I'm not sure whether they're covered in the sale or not.

So Target has the Sponge Bob Square Pants Krusty Krab set on 30% clearance at this point. I will probably get it when it reaches 75% off. Do you guys think it will last that long?

There has to be easily 50, maybe even 70 sets there.

wow that's alot. yeah going to 75% should be easy... I might pick up one now just in case.

This is the second year that the UK and europe have gotten free sets with newspapers, most of the sets are Exclusives and will never be seen again.

It's why I hate the assholes at Eurobricks. They bitch and moan when the USA gets sets a month sooner then them, when they get a lot of sets before use, AND they get sets we will never see like the Pirates and Castle Advent Calendars.

Yeah, that's not fair.

Walking through Costco today, I was surprised to see a Lego set there. They have a City set for 28.99. Just looked up to find the set on Lego, and couldn't find it...augh. I saw it at Target last night too....one of the new City sets. It had a truck...want to say it was a fire truck looking type, and it had over 300 pieces. Sorry, I can't figure out what the dang item was. Maybe someone can help.

I didn't buy it...I'm on a break from buying Legos....spent too much money the past couple of months.

The Army men I'm thinking $11-$13. It seems bigger than a "battle back", I can not wait to get those. I haven't bought any of the 2009 sets, they are nice, but very few "I need this" sets. I need those army men.

Actually, that Woody/Buzz scale looks accurate compared to the movies. Woody is a doll and is considerably taller than Buzz's more compact action figure scale. I'd say Buzz is 2/3 Woody's height, if that. In fact, I remember something in one of the "making of" books or possibly DVD bonus content about how this was deliberate, to help highlight Buzz's sense of inadequacy and overcompensation in the first film.

How about an actual deal. Of course at Fred Meyer, this seems to be my niche here in this thread. In tomorrow's ad LEGOs are b2g1, and they have an additional 10% off coupon for all home items including toys. Not a bad deal, I may pick up a couple of the smaller sets. Thinking about IJ Ambush in Cairo, Space Police Freeze Ray Frenzy, and maybe a SW Clone Walker or the Camper. Oh the difficult choices in life.

When there is an actual deal then someone will post them... I know that's shocking!

Considering most of the country doesn't have Fred Meyers...

Managed to finally get to Kmart, but yeah that 20% off was nice, picked up the Street Speedster for only $8. They didn't have it last time I walked through so it must have been a return.

I was hoping for a tower raid... I have one but wanted at least 2.

looks like I'll grab one from Meijer...

Tower Raid 20.45
http://www.meijer.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=122443&CAWELAID=317674832

ETX Alien Infiltrator 20.45
http://www.meijer.com/catalog/produ...tegoryId=224&categoryId=294&subCategoryId=737

Picking up these two, with shipping and tax ( no freaking meijers in WI yet they are charging) it's roughly $5 off each.

which isn't great, wish I had one in state but the price should be in stores too.
