I saw this in the video games thread, but thought I'd post it over here since Borders also carries a small selection of Lego.

"Borders has an in-store 40% off coupon that is valid from 10/1 to 10/4. If you are a Borders Rewards+ member then you can combine this for a total of 50% off. "

Technically, its only 46% for Borders plus , because they are supposed to take off one discount, and then the other.
S@H has BOTH Winter sets for sale right now. Last year's Toy Shop is still $60 and this year's set is $55.
Any way to get free shipping?
Thinking of Harry Potter sets then just look at these!

Only $20 more than the castle and is STUNNING!
Damn. That is a fine looking set... perhaps the first HP set I've actually wanted.

I have no clue, but around this time of year they normally have free shipping over $100. Maybe that's in November.
The following sets will be 30% off next week.

Star Wars Clone Turbo Tank
City Police Headquarters
Space Police Central
Power Miners Lavatraz
Hero Factory Drop Ship
Power Miners Claw Catcher
City Pig Farm and Tractor
Space Police Undercover Cruiser
Hero Factory Furno Bike
Hero Factory Thunder.

That's all I know for now.
Every other set not listed will be 10% off. I didn't see any exclusions so I can't be sure on that part. This isn't in the ad, but signs will be posted in store.
Fixed link in my original post. Sorry! I cut and pasted the other person's post and it shortened the URL. :)

Just so you don't have to go back searching for my original post- here's the working link:

Thanks for posting that 40% coupon link...I just keep getting 25% or 33% off coupons. Time to get Slave 1.

Bought Hogwarts and Hogwart's Express this morning at the Lego store and then used the $20 in VIP rewards to help buy The Burrow. I didn't know that VIP points can be used right away...that seems ripe for exploitation. Spent too much money, but seeing the 2011 sets makes me believe I won't be buying many new Lego sets...even the SW ones stink.

2011 might be a dark year for Lego, but that means maybe a lot for clearances!

I didn't see any HP sets at LEGO WDW.
are borders prices marked up?
yes, there prices are marked up like 15% above msrp
Has anyone seen Harry Potter at Borders yet??
I'll check today, but I don't think they stock new sets that quickly.

The two at mine are slow... they won't stock till at least a few more months if any.

Haven't picked up any of the HP yet, but I did score five bins, approximately 30-40 pounds of Lego for $50 today! I stopped at a yard sale and they had some toys so I asked if they had any Lego. The mom said she had some but they were still at her house, which was 10-15 minutes away. I was just about to leave when I heard her son saying that he was disappointed he forgot to bring them. So I turned back around and told them I would wait for them to bring the stuff out.

So far, I've uncovered parts from the old Millenium Falcon, some floating boats, and the following figures: Boba Fett, Luke, Hagrid, and Dumbledore and there's tons more stuff to go through. I'll post some pics once I put together some of the sets.

My wife is going to kill me when she gets back from her trip

edit: Forgot to add... I picked up a couple of models yesterday thinking it was some kid's school project. The lady said the kid used glue to put it the models together. It turns out they used to be a TRU display and all the pieces are super glued together. I took out what I could to keep for myself, but if anybody wants the rest of this display, you can have it for free. I don't want to ship it (would probably be over $50 anyway) so local pickup only. We can meet up somewhere in northeastern MA.

It's the old Bionicle Castle but it would probably be useful for a good MOC, I just don't have room for it.

The TRU 30/10% off sale seems to have started already online. The Grand Emporium is "in stock" but has no discount. :whistle2:( I had to link to that particular set from off-site - a search on TRU.com turned up nada. Other high-end sets I wanted are discounted but "out of stock", as usual. But I will be watching that Death Star like a hawk this week.
Also, doing a search on TRU.com for "minifigures" turns up the 4 Bricktober MF magnets, although they are "out of stock", presumably until tomorrow (well at least the Imperial Soldier should show "in stock" by then):

I'm glad I am not the only one that gets shit from there wife! Trust me I get plenty of it.

Went to the LEGO Store to get the Winter Bakery today, almost everyone in the store was getting either that or Winter Toy Shop. They also had Tower Bridge built and displayed...it is really awesome. Much bigger than I thought. I'll have to pick it up at some point.

Also stopped at Borders, and mine had a sole HP set...Freeing
Dobby. Picked it up for 8 bucks after coupon.

I got Tower Bridge yesterday at the Lego store in Cincinnati. It was on display and was much more impressive in person than in pictures. It took me 7.5 hours to build - it is beautiful. I compared it to the actual pictures of the Tower Bridge, and the two are almost identical.

Before that my most expensive Legos were the modular buildings (Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, etc.). Now I feel like my addiction has become deeper. I just moved from Lego crack to pure cocaine.

With the double VIP points, it was like I got it with a $25 gift certificate.

Picked up the City advent calender for $25.85 with the coupon. Is this now tied to my rewards account, or can I go to another Borders tomorrow and use it again on something else?

I have used border coupons again, and no one stopped me. I would guess you would be able to do it again.

Welcome to the club =D, BD is going to be pissed off from this. The HP castle was marked at $150 at TRU, the other more expensive sets were $10 above msrp. I had to scan the set to make sure it was the right price, I was really surprised for the $20 bump!

EDIT: I bought both winter sets today, I was eying the Harry Potter sets and was really digging the train and the burrows. I can't wait till Daigon Alley comes out, that set looks really great.

I grabbed Winter Bakery today myself. For some reason I got $25 off via the VIP card. I have no idea how on earth I got that much, but I'm not going to complain.

What ever you had on your card, plus double VIP points for all of October.

Thanks for checking....I guess I'll just call the Borders near my fam in a few weeks when they should get them. Gotta love that free year of calling from google talk.
No Potter stuff at Borders today.
Was able to combine the 30% off, $5 off coupon, and magnet promo at TRU, despite what the fine print says.

The magnet is pretty cool, figs are the Chinese stuff, which I don't have a problem with. And I love printed tiles like the placard on the magnet, even if it does have a limited use.

And yes, I too have a wife that is going to kill me if I don't cut down on the LEGO spending.

Exactly. I haven't spent much on the card (unless they piled on all my previous orders from lego.com) and October just started.

I don't have a VIP card, I have the old stamp card. I know you used to be able to update it, but is there any way to get a VIP card online? I'm never at a LEGO Store.

Picked up Space Police Central at TRU with $5 coupon and free mini-fig magnet. They had both the cowboy and the fireman, I was originally handed the fireman but asked for the cavalry colonel when I saw they had those as well. I would have preferred, if only getting 1 of them, it was the castle black falcon but oh well.

I know a lot of people complain about the Chinese figs, but I don't think they're that different. Somebody on eurobricks weighed each part and they were within about .1 grams of a non-Chinese fig.

lol, she is happy that I'm not buying as many video games. I've just transferred my spending.

So no takers on the bionicle display?

I used the $10 gift card coupon & $5 off coupon + the 30% off to grab the City Police & Fire stations for my kids. Wish i had a borders around me, would love to grab a few more sets for them. Gotta set up some sort of table to keep these on now.

Combined the $5 coupon with the 30% off on Space Police Central at TRU. Got bluecoat figure--I didn't see any sign of the other figs. I asked if I could buy more of the bluecoats, was told I could--one with each $20 purchase...

That's because it's one minifigure a week.

Was in target today, other than the Fire Truck, a lot of city stuff on "sale" but for $1 off, so not really anything worth it IMO.

There is a way to get a VIP online, you are prompted one when you check out for an order at S@H. BUT... I would not advise that, because you don't get the bonus 25 points by doing so.

I would call the number or visit a store. You should be able to get one in the mail afterwards, then register that to your lego ID. You'll see the bonus 25 after that.

I picked up Lavatraz, Space Police Central, and Claw Catcher for only 17 after $10 in Rewards, 2x $5 coupon, TRU Credit and some rebate cards that came in.

Picked up 2 magnets.

I'll try to pick them all up, but it'll be hard to find $20 to buy later... Hope they have sales throughout Oct.

Oh at Target, I picked up the Fire Truck. I think it's the best fire truck set yet for the price. There's a hitch/trailer and a working ladder, with a boat to boot too. For 2 figures and a little over 200 pieces, not shabby at 17.

Can't remember if this is the same set I picked up earlier this year that had a Target $5 off coupon... back in July I think.... maybe that was a different fire truck.

Just throwing this out there... I've got an extra 2 Surfers I do not want. If anyone has any extra Pharoahs that they don't want, I'm willing to trade.

Went to the Lego store to pick up another the Bakery set. Is anybody else unimpressed with the Hogwarts Cast and Hogwarts Express? The castle looks so small compared to the King's Castle Siege and it's an extra $30. I wish they would have made Hogwarts Epress similar to the Emerald Knight. Though then it probably would've cost $50 more.

I really don't know... I had a good look at them at Target and can't believe the cost of them. I'll have to find them at >30% off.. and Borders might have a 50% at xmas.

I liked most of them, but they are all overpriced.

As a whole I've been very unimpressed with the Harry Potter sets, particularly Hogwarts Castle. The one exception I will say is Diagon Alley, that looks very tempting to get, if for no other reason than to add it to my Medieval Market Village.

Lego has had the same fire truck since 2004 because it's such an awesome set.

And the Harry Potter Castle for $130 is insane, the set really isn't that great.

Somebody has probably asked this before, but do you guys mix your sets or try to keep them separated? I've separated all my sets into ziploc bags and have them in a trunk. The completed sets are up on shelves, in front of the TV and some other random places.

I've sorted the random I've gotten stuff into plates, slopes, bricks, etc. and put them in separate ziploc bags. All the manuals are in a bin. I've thought about just mixing it all together, but I want to keep each set separate. That doesn't really make for good MOC building though.
I want to see some pics of people's collections. Just out of curiosity.
You first :) I'll post some pics once I finish organizing everything. I'm in the middle of sorting through 40 pounds of Lego.

My son and I build all of our sets and then he disassembles them and makes his own creations(even when I ask him not too). Oh well as long as he is occupied with something cool like Legos I can't complain.

To me, the appeal of Lego breaks down something like this:

20% appreciation of Lego designer ingenuity
20% nostalgia
20% collection obsession
40% MOC opportunities

Without that last part, I feel like it's just another thing to collect, and an extremely overpriced one at that. I really enjoy building my own models, so I mix my sets up and sort pieces in Ziploc bags by color and type. The problem is that I live in an apartment so I don't have nearly enough space to sort them in any efficient manner.

You first :) I'll post some pics once I finish organizing everything. I'm in the middle of sorting through 40 pounds of Lego.

I really don't have very much, and most of it is mixed in together (and currently boxed up pending a move). Maybe after I move next month I'll put together some of the sets I have from when I was a kid in the 80s/early 90s. I have a lot of the original Pirates and Castle sets, and a few of the 80s Space sets. I had a lot of the Forestmen sets (or whatever they were called), but I spent so much time playing Robin Hood with them outside as a kid that I no longer know where any of the pieces are. Oh well, good memories are worth more than little plastic bricks. Except on eBay.

I have a few big plastic containers that have random built things like old MOCs half together and official sets of vehicles.

I try to organize the pieces by shape, not color, but running out of room. I'm in the middle of building a beach MOC but having issues with the roundness of a lighthouse train station.
