I will definitely bite on the Dragon Age DLC (Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar) but (like others) I'll wait for a better deal on the actual DA: Awakening disc.

BTW, thanks MSUHitman for the review on the DA DLC.

My mistake. Checked the original post for it, then checked the page before, and didn't see it, so I posted. Should've searched the thread better :p

Okay, despite the lack of tutorial and crappy menus, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is actually quite good.

The characters all play and build up/grow differently. For instance, Alucard improves by collecting more spell scrolls, while Jonathan Morris grows by using his subweapons. The levels are fun and the bosses get really hard, requiring a balanced team, teamwork, and sometimes utilizing traps in the stage itself to succeed. But you can solo it if you work hard enough or if you build up in multiplayer first.
There's a ton of loot to find, and also a hidden item in each stage like Goemon in stage 4 and Konami Man in stage 6. The crazy zoomed-out view is actually a really cool way to check the map - you can play zoomed in at a good level or zoom out to varying degrees to check the path or see what your partners are doing.

Basically, if you know Castlevania pretty well and want to play with other people, it's a great buy. Anyone who needs 3 Summer of Arcade games should give it a try.

We have a discussion thread for it here:

I agree with everyone bashing the choice of games in the summer arcade because they really could have had a stacked lineup, at first I was planning on buying all 5 but now I am really thinking against it, to be honest Its all going to come down to how Laura Croft does, maybe it will surprise people maybe it wont, Im not getting my hopes up, I bought Limbo and Hydrothunder, I was happy with both would have been even happier if they were not $15 and i plan to get monday night combat which is another $15 i hope that doesnt bust, but they had so many they could have decided to put in instead of the 2-3 "Well Known Franchises" of Laura Croft, Castlevania, and the possible Hydrothunder(I liked this one alot though and dont care that it was there) But Seriously Deathspank was great and from all of the hands on previews I have read about Shank, Scott Pilgram, even Hydrophobia(which I am expecting to bomb but really hoping it doesnt) they could have really pushed any of those because I believe that the arcade buyers really do look at reviews especially when they are $15 and if they wanted a shitty game there are plenty of cheap ones out there

I found the Limbo Demo Boring and emo. I don't really like playing as a afro kid with lame puzzles.

Limbo is Braid with dark colors that everyone overhypes, and can be made on flash.

As long as impressions and reviews are favorable, I'll buy Lara Croft anyway. I can wait a month for online multiplayer, especially since it has local multiplayer. it does have local, right?

No, it releases without multiplayer or local. It only has the menu, but you can't play anything...

I thought the local co-op question was reasonable. Not everyone knows that this iteration of the game is supposed to be co-op heavy, and eastx was just confirming he's in as long as local-coop is working at launch. So, unnecessary eyeroller, here's one back at you.
Those people wondering about the Case Zero DLC prequel for DR 2, its been verified that its only 25-30 minutes long.
Source?

Edit: I see you got that from IGN's impressions at Comic Con. According to Capcom, IGN was incorrect and that they played a non-finished build and the actual length is 2-3 hours.

I guess we'll see. I'm not buying it anyway out of principle.

I talked about it on my podcast, and my opinion is that is nothing but a glorified demo that Capcom has found a way to charge $5 for it and everyone accepts it's just $5 and has no problem with it.

Yes I know it's a prequel and you can carry your level over into Dead Rising 2, but what if Capcom didn't fix the save system? What if the game is still buggy and crashing like it has been everytime it's been shown to the press? If there was a free demo I could tell these things and not be out money. If I buy Case Zero and it sucks, I'm out $5.

Also if this is considered a game add-on and not an XBLA game (which is what I anticipate) then there's no free demo. I just find it funny that everyone loves this, but if EA did this with say Dead Space 2 or, heaven-forbid, Dragon Age 2/Mass Effect 3 then the interwebs would be as pissed as they were for the NBA Jam news last week.

Just my opinion but I know I'm in the minority.

It's a sad day for gamers when people are freaked out and not willing to pay $15 for Limbo, one of the best games I have ever payed.

But then they are thrilled to death to hand over $5 for a buggy demo that is usually free.

Anything else about Dead Rising: Case Zero:

beating_a_dead_horse.jpg

1. We are getting way too OT
2. It's not out yet.

Although I do appreciate the discussion (and encourage reviews, impressions, incite, etc), I don't want it to turn into name calling, finger pointing, and Mods being called.

I don't think that everybody is "in love" with something like this having a price tag, it's just that a lot of people are used to being nickel and dimed (especially with Japanese publishers). When Dead Rising was out it was really one of those 360 games that a lot of early adopters were waiting for (me especially) so they were able to get past its faults. Hopefully Case Zero is a little more than just a glorified expansion... but as the type of person who buys into this sort of thing I'll be able to justify it (because really that's how much it would cost to get a handful of items in just about any DLC).

Anyway, I'm unable to make a better argument a the moment and you make a lot of good ones. Can I get a link to your Podcast? I didn't spend the two seconds it was needed to see that it's listed on your signature.

I didn't mean to imply that I wouldn't ever purchase a 1200 points game, because I absolutely adored Limbo. I have a hard time not paying full price for games like that because the developers completely deserve it.

Hydro Thunder... on the other hand... is a bit much.

I hope this isn't bringing up more bad Dead Rising: Case Zero discussion, but have they confirmed yet if this will be considered a normal XBLA title (meaning they'll have leaderboards), or is it not the same thing?

The achievement list is out, and it is listed under XBLA games on xbox.com

Limbo is boring don't get the overrating.

It feels like braid another overrated game that people like for no reason.

I would gladly pay 400 points for 2-3 hours of dead rising because IT'S FUN!

I'm pretty excited about this Dragon Age DLC going on sale but I can't help but wish that more of it was going to be cheaper this week.

What you said is almost as dumb as the way you said it.

To each their own. The atmosphere of Limbo is unmatched. I guess you don't like games that make you think. Both games deserve their high ratings.

That's the silliest sentence of the day. People like it for reasons. You're just too dense to see those reasons. :p

Great price on Awakening. Given all the deals that MS points are going for these days, this was $18 purchase for me, including 'Return to Ostagar'.

I wonder if that's a messup or something changed from Major Nelson's annoucement? Maybe because it's already $30 MSRP on disk they decided to make a better deal? $20 is definately the PERFECT price for Awakening.

Somewhat interested in monday night combat after watching the info on the dashboard. But for $15 I just can't justify it and take the risk that the multiplayer will last for any length of time.

Awakening is half-off now? I might just have to get it...

Too bad Leliana's Song and Darkspawn Chronicles are not on sale.
Where are you all seeing Awakening for 1600? Marketplace still has it for 2400.

EDIT: you have to log-in to see the sale price as it's only for Gold. Sorry for the derail.
But you have confirmed for us the MSRP on it has dropped to 2400 points ($30) as the disk version MSRP is $30. So the Gold deal is still $10 off, but now off the new price to $20, which is the sweet point many have been waiting for with Awakening (I got it for $20 off the EA Store with that PAX East code.)

Edit: Although it is disturbing that the Avatar items haven't dropped in price yet, and if you click on the actual Gold deal ad on the dashboard, it says that feature isn't available.

It's since been updated on Major Nelson's site.

Yeah. I was editing that info in. Sorry if anyone was misled for 5-10 minutes or so.

I also edited a comparison of buying it now and all the DLC vs $59.99. Since this week's sale looks to be two weeks long, you have some time to wait out more info.

EDIT: I went back and added a bold underline and made sure it clear that it was pure speculation

ReddJoey,
Here's my breakdown from the 360 CE thread because I personally don't think there's a chance in hell EA is going to put Awakening in this package:

"Well let's dissect this.

I think it's safe to assume Awakening WON'T be a part of this since it's a full expansion pack with a $30 MSRP and not just a simple DLC add-on mission (even though it's sold as DLC also.)

So we have:
Origins core game
Stone Prisoner (free in all new copies of the game and likely won't change with this)
Warden's Keep ($7 MSRP)
Return to Ostagar ($5 MSRP)
Darkspawn Chronicles ($5 MSRP)
Leiliana's Song ($7 MSRP)
Feastday Pak ($3 MSRP bought together)
Golems of Amgarrak ($5 MSRP) - this is the one coming out on Tuesday

Barring no more DLC releases after Golems, you save $12 if you wait for this edition if you buy any version of Origins for $40 and buy all the Origins DLC seperately at MSRP. If you buy Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar while they're on sale (360 version) you save $8 if you wait.

Also I seriously doubt EA is just going to put this content on a disk so I imagine it will be DLC codes on 360 and all on the Blu-Ray for PS3 so there's likely no hard drive space saving with this version, also no sharing the disk. This is what Capcom did with RE 5 Gold Edition and I think this will become the new standard for many companies, although 2K and Bethesda don't seem to mind having bonus content on a disk that rips to any 360 HDD.

So wait 2 months and save $5-$9, or buy now and pay a little more, but be able to play it now before all the games come out in the fall. Remember if this releases on Oct. 12, that's 1 week before Fallout New Vegas and 2 weeks before Fable 3. That's not even considering Reach/all the sports games coming out in Aug.-Oct.

Of course if there's another DLC pack released after Tuesday and before Oct. 12 or if Awakening is actually included in this Ultimate Edition, then the pendulum swings completely towards buying the Ultimate Edition."

Well said. I jumped on all of these DLC when I noticed Awakenings for 1600 instead of 2400. Mmm.

This is probably kind of a stupid question, but is anyone able to actually get the Blood Dragon avatar item for the sale price of 40 points? No matter what I do, it keeps showing as 80. I was just going to grab it to get rid of the 40 spare points that are lying around. Is it not on sale? No big deal if it's not. I'm just curious. For 50 cents, I think it might be a nice change of pace for my avatar. Even though red really isn't my color. :)

How do you know its not your avatars color though?;)

To answer your Q, the discount hasnt shown up all day. It should be on sale, just doesnt show

Good point. My avatar is a vampire. So maybe he would love a Blood Red shirt. I guess maybe I'll wait until they do the weekly update and see if the price adjusts before I download it. Hopefully it will drop to 40 on the site when they put up the new Golems of Amgarrak DLC tomorrow.

Hmm, well I bought the 360 collector's edition when the game first came out. I played for a while but wished I had bought it on the PC. I figured I'd get around to playing it on the PC but still haven't. Considering I've beaten Mass Effect 1 multiple times and it has sub par gameplay I am really considering goozexing a copy in and buying the DLC. You guys all seem excited by the pricing of all the content.

Good deal all around for all the DLC? (I can get the retail copy of DA:O easy).
Shirts are up
Thanks for maintaining this thread. Your post about "What's in this DLC?" has been very helpful. Sometimes it can be damn difficult to just find out what the hell you are buying! Does it have achievements? What exactly is in the pack? How is this different than the other DLC. Sometimes the marketplace can be confusing.

Hitman, thanks for your comments on the DA:O dlc packs.
