Longest Game Ever made?
I'd go with Legend of Dragoon (PS1)-even though disc 4 is shorter then the other 3, even with the guide I racked up 100+ hours getting everything and leveling up
I loved that game. Probably the last RPG I played on a console that I really enjoyed, until this recent gen. I guess there were a few on the cube I enjoyed but never finished.

Divine Divinity would be a lengthy one I do believe. Its like $10 at target now..

Yeah, I played through the first disc of legend of dragoon, but I had to give it back to my friend.

What other long PS1/2 games are there?
Damn, didn't realize this was a zombie thread until I payed attention to the original post date...

Here's a challenge, and I'm really curious:

Longest current gen FPS (not counting online play, and something worth the money):
Longest current gen Action/Adventure (Think Zelda, Shadow Complex, or Okami, and again worth the money):

RPGs seems to win hands down in quality play time, but I'm currently suckling on some free MMOs and the last thing I want to have as a "break game" is another RPG.
Could we count Fallout 3 as the longest FPS as it can be played in first person mode?
BTW, this is the #1 search result on google for, "longest video game ever"
Woohoo!!! I'm famous......... I totally forgot about this thread I started....... man, how time flies
I'm suprised no one mentioned the last Grand Theft Auto. That game is frickin' long.....
It's only 40 hours, plus it's fun the whole way through. If you take out the hours of walking in a game like, let's say Fallout 3, you get about the same amount of time.
and about 200 hours into Fallout 3 (counting multiple game saves).
Yes, but 75% of Fallout 3 is just walking. If you take that out you get a GTA-sized game.

I just bought a Baldur's Gate 4-pack (BG1 and BG2 and their respective expansions) for about $25...totaling over 1000 hours, lol.

That tetris video has to be bullshit.... That's like trying to count to infinity in your head while repeatedly saying the alphabet front to back outloud.... Ontop of only having half a brain.
For the PC try Baldurs gate 2
This has to be the winner. You could literally play BG2 for like 200 hours and still not run out of stuff to do. Add in all the user mods and it goes up even more.

Any of the Dragon Quest, Star Ocean, Tales, or most of the Square-Enix JRPG's will give you bang for your buck, as well as any WRPG from Bioware or Bethesda.
Au contraire (mon frere)

EDIT: After seeing this video a few times, I'm convinced the wild west would look alot different if the Japanese had been in the mix.
You know what's funny is that he's not even playing on the hardest mode.

The hardest mode in that game has not been fully completed according to the developer.

well, not to say the video is legit or not (looks like it is) but take into account blind people memorizing the number of steps it takes to reach ANYWHERE. The bathroom, sink, kitchen, driveway, the post office, etc.

Theres also people that play games of chess completely in their head with absolutely no visual reference

Sacred 2 - right now i am 153 hours in the game and done 45% of main quest and explored over 70% of the map(there's like 600 sidequests). this game is easily the biggest title you can pick up for consoles and one of the biggest on pc. i know people who played it for 300-400 hours.
Disgaea games - i have already over 300 hours in the first game on psp.

Pretty much take your pick of the Tales and Disgaea games in JRPG's, or Sacred 2/Neverwinter Nights/Baldur's Gate (PC)/Oblivion/Fallout 3 with Western RPG's.

Longest I've spent on a game is Dragon Quest VIII (8, not 7), which I clocked 132 hours into. That's my favorite game of all time, I actually really wanna replay it sometime.

Hey, me too! Doing all that Dragovian stuff at the end took a long time. I loved that game.

I got to about 130-140 hours on my save between the Dragovian trials and trying to kill metal slimes.

But for Disgaea on the DS I've put in over 300 hours.

Of course if you count online multiplayer games, I've put thousands of hours into Counter-Strike.

I spent more time on Final Fantasy III/VI during the spring of 1996 (I was 12) than any other game before (or after). I probably put 350 hours into that game; maxing out everyone's levels, finding all the secrets, and pretty much memorizing everything in the game world, pixel-by-pixel. I've played countless PC and console RPGs, but never spent as much time on a game as that one.

This. Hell, the OG campaign had easily 200 hrs of stuff... in 1 play through. Then there's playing as different classes/alignments (good or evil actually MEANS something here), and the mods that add in content that was INITIALLY CUT! Many of the side quests were, imho, comparable to many of the main quests of lesser games.
What about Desert Bus? That game takes forever to beat!
Technically, the longest you could possibly play Desert Bus for would be 984 hours, which some might consider to still be less than the likes of a Baldur's Gate pack. That being said, one would have to take consideration in the fact that it would take you 41 days straight without pausing to complete DB.

Of course, you could also play a pattern-based game forever if you really wanted to.
