I'm having a hard time finding some cheap priced bookshelves. Everything I look at is at least $60 for maybe half the size I need.

That large one? Yeah, I'll need a couple of those. But I really don't want to cough up $180 for three bookshelves.

Other than making one myself, where do you guys find good ones? IKEA is priced just about the same as Target, so that's pretty much out of range for me.

If you have an IKEA near by you could try looking there. They sometimes have good deals in their "as is" section. Also checkout Office Depot or Staples, they might have some bookshelves on clearance, but the selection will vary with each store.

Another idea might be to see if you have any craft shows in your area. I've picked up already made bookcases and entertainment centers at a great price and the quality has always been very good.

Check for clearances. I got great bookshelves on clerance at Target last Fall for cheap prices.

Just go to Home Depot and build it yourself. I lack in most repair skills, but can figure out how to build a simple bookshelf. I picked up the wood, had them cut it to the sizes I needed, screwed them into place at home, and for a finishing touch spray painted them black. Now I have a shelf system that fits right under our living room window which was wasted space. I can hold at least 200 dvd's/games with what I build and it didn't cost much and it was customized to the space I needed.

I got a couple of decent sized bookshelves from Ikea for $20 each in December. It was the "flarke" model, but I can't find it on their website so it might be discontinued. Try Craigslist.

Unfortunately, I believe they are. I bought 2 in store at $15 each. Went back to get another, were all gone. They were still listed online (about 2 months ago). Same price, but shipping was about $20. So I ordered three at $15, and the shipping was $26 total. Now I've got 2 spare ones that I'll likely need sooner or later. Absolutely perfect for DVD/Game cases.

For new, the best prices will be at Big Lots! For used, try going to a thrift store outlet (aka the "bins" store) - not just a regular thrift store, but an outlet like Goodwill, Salvation Army and other ones will have where they have bins of stuff priced by weight. Those places that I have been to will have pieces of furniture, like bookshelves, couches and stuff like that often for around $5 to $10 ea. If you don't care about looks (like just to put in the basement for storage or something...) then the thrift outlets are a great place to get holdhold stuff cheap.
I know we're talking "Deals", but I'm still uber impressed by the cases I have for my games.... I liked the style so much, I went back and got another for my DVDs.

(Not the store I got it at as I got it for about $200-220 shipped)
That one is bloody brilliant. Nice price too.

Unfortunately I have no room for it and eventually I plan to get many more movies than 680. Still I think that would satisfy mostly everybody.

Has anyone ever seen one of these http://www.storeyourmedia.com/h-shaped-corner-entertainment-center-w-plastic-inserts.aspx but that it can hold MORE and maybe stretch higher. Roughly for a 32inch television.

Realistically, just using current gen games, and DVDs I have more than 2 filled. That's not even touching the CDs (and I worked at a radio station for a time, so... yeah--- tons of those).

The one downside is the bulk, but it's lightweight and actually transports fairly easily--- that is, unless you have boxes still stacked to the sky and other useless stuff since you're a pack rat... not that I do that. ;-)

In other news, I'm sure my wife will make me "get rid" of something before too long... ;-)

As someone else suggested, it's not very difficult to build one. I've built several different bookshelves for our house now, each one custom built for the specific spot it's in. You can get it built for less than $25. Other than that, I would suggest Craigslist as people are usually getting rid of all sorts of furniture on there for cheap (excellent source for entertainment centers).

I picked up these RTA (ready to assemble) shelving units at of all places “walmart” they were on sale for $19.99 at the time for the five shelve unit and $29.99 for the corner unit.
I use them in my office and LR, they’re back instock but a bit higher $23.86 & $36.86 but they also have a shorter version for $15.50 they're pretty flexible if you get 5-shelf units you can leave out a shelf if you want and only have four so you have options, the ones they have now are dark brown and light wood, and the silver and light wood.

I have the silver and light oak units in my Living room (picture):
