Lost Planet - Discussion and Hype Thread - UPDATE: Map Pack #3 Free Aug. 16th.
I don't see how anyone can find the controls sluggish. Sure, if you use the defaul settings, the speed for looking laterally is really slow, but I just pumped it up, and it moves a lot quicker and smoother now.
I didn't mean the aiming was sluggish (I personally use "fixed 7"), but that you seem to spend half the game watching the stumbling animation of Wayne as just about everything seems to knock you over. In addition to getting knocked over, there's also the fact that jumping is a bit sluggish and when you land it takes a second before you can start moving again. Some people have commented that this makes the game realistic, but in a game full of giant bugs that leave behind energy balls, I don't think realism was a high priority.

when people say realistic, I think they intentionally mean that it's a universe that portrays itself in a very real life type of matter rather than something totally irational. Plus if you want to se mostly why it was done, play Monster Hunter and realize alot of Japanese loved that game...

I've been using Accelerate 8 the whole time, maybe I will try Fixed to see what the difference is. Undecided, but I think I might try and trade this game for something else. I played the demo too much, so the MP isn't holding my interest as well as I hoped.

I just played this game for an hour and I'm not feeling it. The controls are terrible, and I hate how he falls every time he gets it. So I just keep getting hit over and over again.. This game kinda sucks...

Maybe it isn't the game that sucks? ;) Kidding of course.

I played through the first two missions and liked it a lot. It gets pretty hard at some points and the enemies can be kind of cheap, but not on a Dead Rising level of cheap. I can see why some people wouldn't like it. It isn't my favorite game and it isn't without fault, but I find it to be a lot of fun.

yeah, the guy falling over is so fucking annoying. WHen, fighting bosses, everysingle little attack knocks the guy over

I have to agree about the falling over thing. It really kills the flow of the game and just feels kinda cheesy and tacked on (especially after seeing the animation for the 1000th time during a boss fight.) if they wanted realism they should've done more with the whole thermal energy element of the game. cause it doesn't provide any of the tension that I thought it would during the game. it's just kinda there.

They could've done a lot of cool stuff with it-- maybe have a mission where wayne gets stuck somewhere, then he has to cut open a worm and sleep in it. Then you could control another team member and rescue him while waynes thermal power counts down. Or have a stretch where the thermal power ACTUALLY runs out on you, instead of letting you collect thousands of units during every mission.

you know, crazy survival stuff like that.

I finished the game and am having a hard time convincing myself to keep it at $60..
I finished the game and am having a hard time convincing myself to keep it at $60..
Why did you spend 60 on it? Bad CAG, BAD!
I think all the special editions/collector editions they pull are just gimmicks.
Uh, what's the "gimmick" here? Most collector's editions provide you with good, solid extras that are well worth the extra money.

For example, the World of Warcraft and Guild Wars CEs are great. $70 got you hardcover art books that sell for $25 in stores, in game items, mouse pads, trading cards, soundtracks and making of DVDs. The Guild Wars Factions making of was quite impressive, I love seeing incredibly talented, creative people in their element, checking out what techniques they use, etc. Of course, it helps that I'm bat shit insane for games, and I'm pursuing a development career...

I'm playing on Normal, and just finished Mission 4, and I'm not getting knocked over hardly at all. Maybe you people should learn how to shoot those enemies, instead of letting them crash into you.
Why did you spend 60 on it? Bad CAG, BAD!
Well, $50 (GamePro Coupon) before $30 in gift certificates at best buy.. ;) Still, It could be resold for a decent amount right now. It's a great game, and I really liked it, but the multiplayer is just so-so. I can't see myself going through all the levels looking for those target markers.. but then I think that I would, and want to keep it. If anyone's got any interest in it, I might like to trade for somethings DS/Wii/360 related.

The more I play it, the more I like it. And I do think I'll go back through and try to get all of the markers because it'll be a bit easier now that I know the layout of the levels better. Crazy boss fights. Tons of enemies onscreen at once. Great, great mech combat. I'm keeping it.

I played through the first 2 missions last night and I'm loving it so far. Looks great and above all the game is fun to play. Fair enough it doesn't try anything new but what it does, it does very well.

Agreed, plus it makes Wayne more believable as a human... I'm glad to see he gets knocked around... since when did a game have that happen? most games that closely mimic that just hack the character stiffly pushed away from an explosion...

I just ran into a giant douche on Live. His GT is Douche Aaron. Give him bad rep for being a little asswipe.

I like Multi-player a lot. I wish there was a co-op on Live though. That would have been fun. OH well, if there is a Lost Planet II, maybe it will be a buddy flick!

Is it just me or is this game's multiplayer almost unbearably unbalanced? Unless you're playing with certain settings(Rifle start, or start with other weapons), it seems like there's the elite and the worthless among players.. Getting anywhere near decent weapons is such a chore..

It's a bit annoying at times, but once you realize what reaction enemies have to certain weapons, it's win/win. Shotgun matches are the best IMHO since the game is cluttered with too many Rifle games... Sniping is overated.

Starting to get annoyed by some of the obvious hacks/cheats/whatever. Whole team of us yesterday experienced a guy who was invincible. We all reported him, and it certainly wasn't lag. He was walking through walls and at one point we all stood there and shot him at point black range and he wouldnt go down. Hope they find the result of this before more people start doing it.
anyone think that the reloading is more comfortable like this than using a button? it feels a bit more natural and logical.
That's a good point. I thought it was bad news at first but it feels quite reloady with the overly firm stick click.

No. I changed the button config to LB-Zoom, RB-Reload.

I gave up on trying to kill people in Post Grab games. I load 2 clips worth of machine gun bullets into someone, and they refuse to die. God it is so freaking irritating. I just grab posts now.

Dude I thought it was just me! Im usin a satellite provider so I thought it was maybe lag, I ran all over the place and even gun butted the dude like 5 times and he didn't die. I said fuck this and ran off and got shot in the back! At least they give you a lot of points for getting posts, thats all I do too lol.

bst way to test lag is by playing a game starting with shotgun. If it takes more than 2 or 3 shots to kill a guy, you got bad lag.

what about picking up new guns? I find that it takes my guy wayyyy too long to pick up guns in online games.

Also-- If anyone reading this thread still needs a copy, I got an extra sealed copy that I'll sell for $45 shipped. PM me :)

When I played the demo, it was really hard to kill people online unless you were in a mech. Grabbing posts is the easiest way to score points.

Yea I know same thing happens to me when I try to pick up weapons, the dude bends over:whistle2:# and just stays in that position for like 3 seconds and then I get the item or gun. This is also seen when I want to "hop" into a mech.

I echo these sentiments. I think my time is better served with Rainbow Six Vegas or Gears (in that order). Lost Planet is mediocre in my opinion. I know I'm only in the second stage, but I don't feel any motivation to continue.

Off topic, but this thread sure reminds me that everyone ignores the size restrictions on signatures. There's some big MFin' sigs in CAGland.

 I'm assuming you're talking about me? yeah, I know. Will I do something about it? eventually...

One reason why I will take this over rainbow six any day is that I can't stand military games... It dosn't have the creative edge that original IPs tend to have. Yes, it mya not play as good, but I don't want to play a game that is very well made, but I can in no way like. Same thing applies to GRAW (and yes, I've played hours of it and can' stand it to be honest, even though it's a well made title).

I feel the same way.. Couldn't Stand Rainbow Six Vegas, felt too generic. Somehow GRAW captured my intrest though.. maybe it was just that good.

I couldn't take lost planet multiplayer any longer, and it's up on ebay. I'd rather be playing FEAR or MGS3 online.

And that's fair. Knowing the quality of a game even when you don't like it is a good trait. I've never been big into military games (couldn't play more than a level of GRAW), but I found R6 Vegas to be easy to get into and command your team. Cover mechanic was great, too.

I think I'm in the minority of gamers in that I love playing in real-world environments. That's why Duke Nukem was so sweet back in the day, and part of my love for GTA. You're doing impossible things in possible places. That's a big reason why I like Vegas more than, say Gears. I don't dream of kicking ass on distant planets; I dream of doing it at the mall, or at my old school.

anyone have tips for Mission 7?

I can't get past those annoying probes. I tried to keep the laser/plasma rifle, but it disappeared when I entered the next section.

I'm sure I did it the hard way, but I just ran through until got to an indoor area and shot them as they entered the door. It was rather annoying, and there must be an easier way.

you can get a plasma rifle on one of the lower levels of the platforms and snipe the probes from afar. zoom in with the rifle hit them once with the plasma rifle and they will turn towards you with their "eye" exposed for a few seconds. during these few seconds, shoot them a few times in the "eye" and destroy them before they can even come near you. this is how i did it and it's quite easy. good luck!

It's offical...I am a Worm Hunter and have the nerd points to prove it! I love this game. Not the best and has it's flaws, but I really enjoy it.

A little bit off topic. I can really understand when people say they don't like a game, but can see that it is well made or why someone else might like it. One game I can't get into is Halo series. Lots of people love those games, I do not. But I would not say it sucks and mean it. Might do it to pee on a fanboy's parade, but only if they pissed me off.

Anyway, I like online and like the solo. I wish Wayne would run and move a little faster.
Do the multiplayer achievements only unlock in ranked games?
Yep, there really is no disadvantage to playing ranked though. You only gain xp points toward leveling up. I suppose the only disadvantage is playing with your friends, but as usual it prevents exploiting of achievements.

Not to sound like a puss, but how good are the players in ranked games. I jumped in to one and noticed in the lobby that everyone was ranked above 50 and I was level 1, will I just be a lamb for the slaughter? I've played a ton of non-ranked matches and usually hold my own.

Well after 1 match I got to lvl 10. So exp goes quick early. You also need to keep in mind that if you are lower and kill a high lvl person, you get more points. They get less for killing you. I've played with people higher than me who were horrible at the game, and I've played with really good low lvl people.

Your level basically comes down to how much you play, unless you suck and always get 100 points per round, in which case it will take forever to lvl regardless of time.

If anything teams are less likely to be stacked in ranked matches, as unlike gears you can't "Switch" teams in the lobby.
well, I'm almost at lvl 40, and want the lvl 45 model badly... best suit other than waynes
45 one isn't that great. the 55 one is the stormtrooper looking guy.

well here's a good thing that happened to me... made some friends with two really lince and nice looking girls from the UK in LP. We need more of these:
