While I don't think questionable tactics are outside of Tanabeo's repertoire, a scrambling QB is definitely not one. If you were dropping 8 men into coverage (let's even say 7 since you said you had the MLB spying)...unless the MLB is damned fast and you're usering him yourself, you're going to have trouble stopping a QB with happy feet. If you had 3 down linemen, they're going to get tied up in blocking...so that MLB is your only shot of stopping the QB before he makes a big gain. Even if you were manually telling your DE's to QB Spy, that's STILL going to be tough to stop if he wants to run up the middle, where your DT is getting double or triple teamed.
I don't know that the league has ever had a concrete ruling on it, but to me, the only thing questionable about people who want to run with their QB's are the types of plays they do it from. I've seen a few people who plan their QB runs around plays where they just send their receivers on streak routes, pulling the secondary downfield 20 yards before they take off. To me, that becomes somewhat cheap. But that's my opinion. As I said, I don't know where the league officially stands on that.
One thing I have to ask though, if you're not comfortable with the various nuances of "What Works in Madden", why didn't you join the JV League (other Madden league on CAG)? I'm not trying to downplay your skill or anything. But that league is a great place for people to learn more about the game and to share tips with each other.
