Hey, y'all.
So yesterday, I went to the Mario Kart Driving School Stop in San Diego. As big of a truck they came in (pics to follow), they tucked it away well. Anywho, once I found it, I didn't have to wait long before I got to play MKW--first, I did Vs mode with another guy...then he left, so I did Grand Prix by myself--did 50cc Mushroom Cup, and started one race on Flower Cup until I had to concede my spot to a pair of kids.
I've always like Mario Kart, and I did like MKW quite a bit. Now, the turning's very sensitive--in the first race, it didn't take much of a turn to send me veering across the track, but I got the hang of it pretty soon. However, I couldn't seem to find a jump button; that may have been because I set my controls to Automatic (in GP, if you highlight Auto, it'll say on the bottom, "Automatic drifting with no Mini-Turbos"), as opposed to Manual, which I never tried (but does enable Mini-Turbos). However, once I got the timing down on the jumps, I got my boosts that way.
One thing I wasn't too keen on was that it seemed like the CPUs throw a ton more shells (and other items) than before. In the 3rd race of Mushroom Cup (the Factory stage), in the last lap, I got his by a green shell, a red shell, and a blue shell in rapid succession; needless to say, I ended up 3rd in that race. However, I do like that when a shell is approaching (red or blue, can't recall green), an icon and an arrow shows up; that way, if you've got a banana peel, you can hold it out and deflect the Red Shell. (Obviously, it won't work for blue.

)
Now, as for the free swag and the scene itself, I've got some pix:
This is the tent where most of the stations were. It was pretty simple--just some Wiis, flat screens (behind white covers to match the décor), and some wooden folding chairs; 2 per station. There was also a replica Kart in the center where you could get your picture taken; more on that later. Oh, and apologies for not getting the interior, but my description pretty much says it all.

? Oh, and you can see the staff here, as well...
Here's a close-up of the back of the coveralls. I'd love to get one of these...

Actually, speaking of clothing, I wore my Wii hoodie from Hot Topic to this event, and I got a positive comment from both one of the staff, as well as a random bypasser. Dress to impress, I always say.
Here's the truck--I know it's kinda' hard to see inside (used my celly to snap these shots), but inside were 4 additional playing stations: 2 on the wall, and 2 within Karts, for that "feel like you're actually racing" feeling. I didn't feel like waiting around for this.

Here's the back of the truck; a little easier to see inside:
Okay, now here's the free swag I got:
A faux license plate--it actually fits American license plate mounts, but I decided to put mine up on my bedroom wall.
A faux driver's license--you filled out your name, a nickname, city/state, birthday, favorite Mario Kart player, and favorite item (including the new ones in MKW), then they take your picture, and voila! I forgot to take my glasses off; even though it was cloudy outside, my Transitions lenses activated. But, meh, whatever...
A real air freshener--What does it smell like?
An Italian plumber.
...
Yes, I'm joking. Actually, the scent reminds me of oranges n' cream...dunno' how that fits with Mario Kart, but that's just me. Oh, and don't sniff it too closely, it'll give ya' a headache.
And, there's this card--remember how I said that you could get your picture taken in a Kart inside the tent? You didn't get the picture right then and there--instead, they gave you this card, and you use the code above to retrieve your picture. They just put up the link for photos, so I'm gonna' get mine right now...
...
Well, it seems the link leads to nowhere at the moment. Oh well, I'll share it with y'all later.
Enjoy!
