Mario Kart Wii - Gen. Discussion & Info

We have no idea what Nintendo's line up looks like after June. For all we know they have a number of big hits lined up for this fall. Of course, it's also possible that Mario Kart is their only other big franchise for the year, and that they will hold it back until this fall. It's hard to say at this point.
ANYONE SEE THAT MARIOKART WII RELEASE DATE ON IGN IS APRIL 28TH!!!

I'm crazy excited, and it's coming out so soon, in respect to SSBB, WOOT!!!
I'm surprised more people didn't notice the NA release date of 15 April reported by Jeux France in their last MK notice (linked earlier in this thread--maybe a week ago?).

I really don't know what to think on the NA date. I'd like it to show ASAP, but I understand that Q2 is awfully crowded. Who knows where it'll wind up. Nintendo's crazier than a shithouse rat anymore.

I can't see Brawl & Mario Kart coming out a month apart.
It makes not much sense.

The only way it WOULD make sense, is if they have some big games planned for the end of the year.
If this game comes out before October I'd be shocked.
I like your avatar, Burn Notice Rocks.:applause:

I can't believe Nintendo would sit on this game for 6 months because of the game schedule. It doesn't make any sense for them to have one big game come out for the Wii between April and December. My guess is the game hits America in June and they've got other plans for this winter.

They should seriously scrap this and make the snes one online!
When is donkey kong jr. going to make his triumphant return?
Mario Kart Wii will be out waaaay before Christmas. It has already been confirmed by Nintendo.
Smash Bros Brawl was confirmed for a LAUNCH title. However, it was then given a DECEMBER 3 confirm.

...Now it's March 9.

Which was a ballsy claim because Nintendo hadn't even put the team together for Brawl when it was announced.... Just 6 months before the Wii's launch.

LOL, right?
Metroid Prime 3 was ALSO confirmed for launch.
If Legend of Zelda, Brawl, AND MP3 were all launch.. yikes.

We would only have had Galaxy to look forward to

So it sounds like 4P local multiplayer will include CPU racers so you can race a full grand prix instead of only 4P. THIS IS fuckING AWESOME. I hope to sweet jesus this rumor from early hands-on play turns out to be true.

Along with GC controller support, 4P grand prix was the only other item on my wish list for this title. I'm a happy karter.

EDIT: I checked my e-mail and CAG before doing my news crawl. Oops. Confirmation of 4P grand prix in IGN's hands-on posted today.

i agree, 4 player on double dash always seemed a little bit empty. sometimes we'd team up on 2 karts just so we'd have all 8 karts on the track. things are just more fun in mario kart when there are more karts around.

i wish they had voice chat during races...they could do that pay to play thing for voice chat... and have nintendo wi-fi no voice chat for free

*sighs* at least were getting text chat before races

Are there going to be downloadable tracks? 16 is so little these days. Especially since MK DS was full of tracks and stuff. I only hope that MK Wii will do that and more.

I believe there are 32 tracks. Nintendo Power had a big spread on the game this month, here's my summary:
- Mini-turbo after doing tricks
- Most items return (Bullet Bill from DS replaces Chain Chomp), three new items: Mega Mushroom, POW Block, Lightning Cloud
- Freshest MK experience since SNES
- Using the wheel takes some adjustment - full turning range is about 10:00-2:00
- Short impressions of the first 16 tracks w/ thumbnails
- 12 standard characters, 6 hidden, unlockable Mii
- Overview of the button config for remote while in the wheel
- Point into the slide before you hop to do a drift - easy to start drifting the wrong way otherwise
- Automatic Drift option (no mini-turbos, no hopping)
- Both stages of mini-turbo charged by holding a drift
- Ramps/hills/bumps in all courses for tricks
- Wiimote speaker sounds alarm when an item is approaching
- Drafting returns from MK DS
- Timing for turbo start the same as MK DS
- Grand Prix: 1-2 players; Battle: 1-4 players; Time Trials; Vs.: 2-4 players
- Race and challenge ghost data in Time Trials online
- Battle Mode - Balloon Pop and Coin Runners; 2 6-man teams
- No mission mode from MK DS
- 50cc karts only, 100cc bikes only, 150cc both
- Bikes only have one stage turbo, but can pop wheelies to get a boost

So does anyone know where IGN's release date of 28 April for NA comes from? I have a feeling it may be a placeholder--someone at IGN may have been told by someone at Nintendo that the game is definitely coming out in April and so they threw the last Monday of the month in there. Who knows. Maybe Jeux France's rumored NA release of 15 April will turn out to be true.

The major magazines are doing previews now, so I think an April release seems likely. I don't mind if it comes out on the 28th, as it gives me more time to play Smash. ;)

There are 32 tracks, 16 new and 16 classic tracks like in Mario Kart DS. I believe I read somewhere that it will also have 10 battle mode levels, but I could be wrong about that.

You are correct (confirmed via this months Nintendo Power).

Well today it seems that the April 28th release date has changed according to IGN, so they have the release date for June 30th. But yeah seems like everyone has previews or like demos sent to these "reviewers" so yeah probably because SSBB is making to much money and Nintendo needs to space its big titles out.

Not at all excited for this. Double dash was just terrible and this hardly looks any better. Everyone would have a lot more fun online with the original mariokart.

That reminds me, I need to get in the SSBB thread and let them know how underwhelmed I am by Brawl. They're missing my vital and constructive input on how G&W is the best char because he cooks sausages.
Officially dated 4/27 (for now).
Animal Crossing, Disaster, and two Mario Sport games will be confirmed to be out before Christmas, and maybe Kirby.

You heard it hear first. :)

Now Nintendo just needs to announce some games after May, after blowing up the first half of the year with Brawl, Mario Kart, WiiFit, and WiiWare.
Just read it on IGN before coming here, and I'm extremely excited.

AC coming out this year would be amazing.

I didn't say it would come out this year, only that it would be confirmed to be. ;)

I am looking forward to this game more so than Brawl. I have enjoyed the mario kart series for a long time now (ever since the SNES days). 12 player online races and 8 player online battle mode is nice. The one flaw in MKDS was that battle mode was fun against A.I. opponents, the option for online was a real bummer. I hope the Wii version will make up for Double Dash.

I have a really bad feeling about this game....mkds left a sour taste in my mouth...

And it's supposed to be out soon, wtf, since when does Nintendo release games so soon that we want?

Yeah I know what you mean. They should have spaced out smash, and this. This month smash then the next month mario kart.

I think the major concern is that you hope it isn't just thrown together like a trash.

What you're not taking into account is that they've had quite a bit of time to devote to it. Smash was delayed so long, it really should have been out between Princess/Prime and Galaxy. This game is right on schedule for a new game.

OMG
Battle mode arena 4 from the original game is making the cut! Now if we could just have battle arena 2 from that game and the feather back it would justify this purchase. Double Dash was the worst, so I am not expecting very much.

They really do need the feather back. I loved jumping over the walls when my cousins would throw a red shell at me.

I just read you can use the classic controller or gamecube controller. That makes me feel better about the game. I did't think I really wanted to use the wheel.

yeah, that's huge.
I hope the Wii version will make up for Double Dash.
Make up for what? Being fucking awesome and probably the best Mario Kart? Double Dash was the shit. I like it more than Super and 64. I don't understand why DD gets such bad reputation. That game is gold.
Still slightly pissed that it's coming out so soon
Stop being such a bitch! ;)
It is ok, I feel the same way. :whee:

OK, so people first complain about Wii's lack of big releases, and now they complain that there are too many good games coming out?

Make up your minds, people! :)

I'm sure Nintendo will be fine, by the way. Reggie has hinted at a great second-half that will be revealed at E3.
