Mario Kart Wii - Gen. Discussion & Info

Oh, and who the hell has the "Titsface" Mii? I may have to remove you as my 5 year-old was asking what that one said :bomb:.
he's on my list too. If you look in the MKWii FC list they might be on there if you search for "titsface". I could also tell you which CAGs have PMed me to add a FC if the first option doesn't help. I know I kept getting PMs that were to like the first 5 people on the FC list, and I know you were in the same group as me.

I'm Tits Face. I like to see what I can get away with when using Nintendo's online services. I was too late to any of the play last night; I think Sunday is the next time I might be on.

Don't worry, I'll change to something equally offensive soon. You could just do what I do and tell your kids it says "Rainbow Sunshine McDonalds". You shouldn't be letting your kids who can't read watch you play video games online anyway.
Snaking is gone, but it just shifts the focus to wheelies on straight parts of track. Instead of constantly wiggling the control stick back and forth, you're constantly shaking the wiimote up to start wheelies!
So the moto's are better then the karts then?
So the moto's are better then the karts then?
Pretty much. I'm sure an uber good karter could beat a decent motorcycle, but in general winners pick cycles.

I kept losing to them last night, so I'd be inclined to say yes.

Here's a better idea: don't put R-rated material in places where it's clearly not meant to go. Regardless of who's on your friends list, if you go online at all chances are you'll run into kids.

Tits are not R-Rated, silly. Kids love tits. I put them wherever I want.

Here's my idea - I make things that entertain me and my friends and if they don't entertain you, remove them/me. I won't be offended. What does offend me is some random user online passing judgement and telling me what to do.

All right, that was a little pissy, but seriously - if it contains user-created content, there will be dirty things too. Which is why the ESRB doesn't rate the "online experience".

I played with Hitler last night and Jesus. I guess everyone love Mario. I finally unlocked all the characters. :D

Well, I wasn't even playing online - just entering FC's from CAG and seeing who was on. He didn't know what the picture was (I wouldn't either without the title) but since it was funny looking he asked me what the name was. I just made something up. And I play games with him every evening before reading to him. It is our nightly routine. Just as much as you don't want "some random user online passing judgement and telling me what to do" I don't want someone telling me I shouldn't let my kids watch me play an E-rated Mario game ;). I have limited time to play (especially right now with work all over my case) so I want to jump in to games with CAGs when I can - I also have to entertain him at the same time so he will watch, and that's just the way it is...

I think every other character in my Mii parade is either Hitler, Jesus, or Michael Jackson ;).

I'm really getting used to the wheel, but at the same time I'm finding more flaws about it.

You know the technique of holding items like shells to help you fend off red shells, or to use later?

Well doing this on the wiimote's left and right dpad directions is extremely awkward for me, especially when it's time to drift(which is the bulk of the time). How do you wheelers get around that?

I remember yesterday I was looking in options menus. Look in either options at the license select screen or options on the screen where you pick 1-4 players, MK channel, or WFC. There's an option to make all Miis not made by you in MKWii Nintendo created Miis. Although I think the name might still be there...

Didn't know that - interesting. And yet I do want to see most of the CAG's Miis... Well, I'll see what's up next time I'm on ;).

I supect you caught the joking in my comment, but just in case you didn't - I totally understand.

Fair warning to anyone who might add me: If you do you will be faced with Tits Face, Human Poo, various phallic and vaginal faces, and many more. And you will beat them all, because I am terrible at Mario Kart, but good at making juvenille potty-humor-themed Miis.
I finally unlocked all the characters. :D
Lucky. I just unlocked
Bowser Jr
, and I thought that was an accomplishment.

Let's see...I know I've got
Birdo, Toadette, Dry Bowser, Rosalina, and Baby Luigi
left to unlock, which means I need to get into time trials and start kicking butt there. I had a hell of a time trying to unlock Funky Kong, though, so I'm reluctant to try and get the rest of the characters through that method.

Use the B button to hold an item behind you with the wheel.

does anyone know what you have to do to get a star ranking in the cups. i've been able to get it without winning everytime. and i've not gotten it after winning everytime. so it's got to be something else. but i'm not sure what.

So far, no - I haven't seen any one comprehensive explanation for what gets you star rankings in the cups.

From what I can tell, finishing well does play into it, but there are other factors - falling off the track sends your rating plummeting, for instance.

if it's like MKDS, almost everything plays into it... including how many items you connect with, how many times you drive off the track (not just fall off the course, but out of the actual clean roadway on the course) and how many times other cars hard bump you

The game keeps track of two "scores" while you're online: one for versus, and one for battle.

Does anyone know what determines these? It's obvious that how you finish is the biggest factor, but the number of points you gain or lose per race can swing wildly. It seems like the number of competitors might factor in, but I'm not sure yet.

What kinds of scores do CAGers have? Right now, I've got ~6500 Versus and ~6000 Battle. :)

9000

I wish, I haven't played online yet

Well I finally unlocked the ability to race as Mii and of course as the fatty I am I can't race in the old karts I used to as Mario.

Can I make myself skinner in the Mii Channel and it update in MK?

If you use a heavy Mii, will it be in a heavy kart? I'm using myself and I'm in a small kart

Also, what IS the alternative outfit? Has anyone unlocked it?
I only have Mii alternative outfit and Dry Bowser to unlock. I have a few karts, too. I ALSO NEED MY GOLDEN WHEEL!

Anyone have a Captain Falcon Mii that's the shortest size for any Mii character? I ask because I want to start racing with him in the
Blue Falcon
. Sucks that kart is a baby sized vehicle.

The Mii alternative outfit is
your Mii in the Mario overalls. So basically, you're "Mario-fied" (mustache not included)
.

Well, that's silly

You know what I want to try? It'll be cheap to do..but I'm not very crafty
I would love to spray paint the Wii Wheel in black.. BUT keep the blue circle around "Wii" on the back. I think that would look fuckin awesome, but I don't know how to do that EXACTLY.

Painter's Tape and an Exacto knife, maybe?

Oh, and I'd personally go with a matte finish...glossy would make it gaudy, but again, that's just me...;)

Well, the blue ring looks to be a seperate piece. You could run a small item around the outside of the ring to see if it will come out...

If it does, its just a matter of hitting the wheel with some black coloring. I'm thinking these days its a vinyl dye that actually seeps into the plastic is the prefered method for modders.

Oh hell yeah, getting matte would be the only way. ONLY way.
Painter's tape and exacto knife eh? Well, I never heard of either but luckily I'm on the internet right now,

I just don't want to turn painting a $10 wheel into a long ass $40 project LOL

Well this week I've been busy plus my free time has gone into MK and this thread

I'll head there now and give you an e-handjob.

In other news, I'm kinda liking Bowser Jr + bike.

Painter's tape: [link]
X-Acto Knife: [link] (Sorry for the misspelling. It doesn't have to be this...if you can cut the tape so it covers the blue with something else, go for it. :) )
and I am at ease.

I can't wait to start playing MKWii. :bouncy:
Make sure to give me your friend code so I can kick your ass. :)
Does anyone actually like / use the wheel?
I do. I enjoy it more than the other controllers for some reason.
I do. I enjoy it more than the other controllers for some reason.
Same here! I do better with the Nunchuk combo, but I find using the wheel is more fun.
I was in a regional match last night and it turned out all 12 of us were using the wheel. It just SEEMED more fun that way. With the wheel, we all had the same skill level  So if you crashed 11 people passed you.

I am blown away by how much fun I am having with this game online (lag free!). I have had many more laugh-out-loud moments here than with any other Wii game, despite pining for voice-chat and finishing around 7th place in full games.

Turning with the wheel remote feels like Excite Truck. I find it very fun and responsive. But that may account for my 7th place finishes. ;)

You know I like the wheel but for me personally getting the better times in the time trials and such I really need analog control to pull it off so I end up using the wiimote and nunchuck. Pity to since the wheels a lot of fun :(.

My wife and I play nearly every night and she loves to play online. Again, the multiple license file thing sucks since to use the car she likes, she has to play through the cups on her license just to unlock them to play online.

I was wondering if one license could unlock everything for the others. That's too bad.

I got to play online for the first time on Friday night. To the good, there was a surprising lack of blue shells and I absolutely buried 'em (200-11). To the bad, I didn't go online to dominate, I went online for tight races and competition. Plus, the track selection was meh: I've never raced N64 Sherbet and DS Yoshi Falls so much in my in life (3 times each IIRC).

The whole experience just reiterated for me that the bitching over snaking in DS was mostly people placing the blame for their performance on everything other than their own poor play. On Friday night, in snaking-free karting with MKW, most of the racing I saw was people who couldn't stick to the fast lines in the track, consistently missed item boxes, and wasted items once they had them.

My point isn't that everyone sucks, it's that SNAKING WASN'T WHY PEOPLE WERE LOSING. Just like in DS, you don't need to snaking to win consistently if everyone else is all over the place and karting stupid. I'm all for people having fun and karting however they like, but why did those people get to dictate the depth of game control?

To be honest, I don't know that the loss of straight-stretch mini turbos is that much of a loss. Maybe Nintendo even planned on including snaking but couldn't work it out with the Wii Wheel. I guess I'm just raising the point because I see it as a concrete, experienced-based example of how snaking never was a "problem" or "sploit". It was just frustrating for people in 4P races to be dominated by the guy in first (who sometimes happened to snake effectively). Now that there are up to 12P races, being dominated by the guy in first isn't such a big deal when there's a lot more other racers to worry about.

I'm one of those terrible racers that enjoys racing online. I never blamed snaking in MKDS, I just didn't like getting destoyed in every match. It wasn't fun. In MK Wii, at least I can rank in the middle somewhere usually, but the first few places are always miles ahead of the pack. I hope that as enough users come online, the MK Channel is updated with an option to match you with people within the same score range. I think this would solve dothog's problem, and let me race with all the other sub-5000 players.
If you use a heavy Mii, will it be in a heavy kart? I'm using myself and I'm in a small kart
I assume so because it's saying my Mii is large and will only let me race in L karts. I prefer the Dragster but it won't let me use it because I'm too fat  Finally unlock the 1 thing I wanted and I can't even use it

Finally unlocked everything in the game.. Dry Bowser was the last one for me.

On top of it all, I got at least one star on every course, so now I got a nifty gold star next to my name.

To reiterate what dothog was saying about online, I decided to do worldwide online for the first time last night, as Dry Bowser with my gold star. It wasn't even a competition, most of the time I was at least half a track ahead of everyone else... when Rainbow Road got picked, I almost *lapped* the competition.

And this was on 5 or 6 games I played, no one really ever came close. Doubt I'll be playing this online much now, it just seems most people aren't too good at it, to the point of being absolutely horrible.

I haven't tested it out, but wouldn't then you have to sign into online using your license, while the other person has to use Guest? Then the other person will never be able to up/down their rating

isnt that the only way to get online with a friend? they can choose their own mii but they still are signed in as guest. unless you can sign in using 2 licenses at the same time, which i havent heard of this before.
