also had troubles logging on this morning.  alliance seemed to be broken and events also.  I still have all my characters, and saved to google plus, hopefully this gets fixed soon, because i need my mpq fix

 
I didn't realize Season 1 is over in a few days. It was such a long time that I kept telling myself I had plenty of time to score in it... but here I am not even having earned the Hulk cover yet : /

I will be lucky to even get the Hulk cover. I would of course love the 10-pack but that does not look like a reality at the moment unfortunately : /

I'm hoping they'll have another event like The Simulator for Season 1 where you can rack up some points. It doesn't seem feasible (for me) to get enough points with the tourneys.

I think in the original announcement, they said it was just going to be a compilation of the tourneys.

 
I'm not sure if The Simulator counts as a tournament, but that's where I got most of my Season 1 points. I got the Black Hulk cover, but am also hoping to get the 10 pack. If all that's left is the 2 1/2 day tourneys with (roughly) 10-40 point matches, I'm not gonna make it.

Yes I know what you are saying, normally I can average 600 pts for tourney, but all points go towards the pot and you dont lose them when you lose a fight. (i think)

 
So they jacked this heroic event up good huh? Servers got shot, people not getting rewards, on top of whatever they did to inject points while the event was running in order for it to finish within their timetable. 

How about they never do that again. Why put a time limit on an event where progress is guaged by how many points thats accumulated worldwide. No one was making any headway on the first sub event, so rather than just have a 2 day time limit, they injected tons of points in so it would complete in 2 days.  Really? Which is why its so surprising we did well since most of us missed a sub event or maybe 2.

Then there was rubber banding or the lack thereof, which forced us all to heavily grind until everything was 1 point except the one hard ass node that was only worth ~100 if that. This event was severly lacking & now Im starting to wonder since they know they jacked the event, how theyre going to hand out the rewards. Now I hear tanking is broken too? Would explain why I keep facing the same damn people no matter what I do.

As for season 1 coming to an end in a few days Im not sure what to do. Im ranked 77 now, once I get into the IM40 tourney I'll probably boost myself up to the top 50.  Im just asking myself why.  I have 5 in Ragnarok's red and my last heroic 10 pack only gave me 2 cards I can use.  I'll already get 3 heroics from the alliance rewards & the tier Im in will give me 5 heroics as well.  So Even if I dont get a 10 pack Im still looking ok with 8, which may or may not yield anything of value anyways. 

Not saying Im burnt out, although that heroic event did take a toll. Im just lost for direction right now. The covers I need have low drop rates & the guys I need to level up need a butt ton of ISO.  Maybe while Im in a funk I'll just level my bagman up to 85 for shits and giggles.

Every attack, whether it be simulator or tournament, if you lose, it drops your season 1 rank as well.....

So its a double shot, you either have to make up the points in the tournament/simulator or both. So it works like any other tournament, just longer and more chances to lose points. The only thing that doesnt count (Thank God) are the lightning rounds.

So you have to watch 3 things while season 1 is going on: Your Tournament Rank, Your simulator rank, and your season 1 rank. Since the later is directly affacted by the first 2. Worst thing is unless you progress far in the simulator, the progression rewards are just crap.

Dude, I am with you. I'll keep mine short and sweet. Everyone probably knew this based on what I wrote in the alliance chat last night, but I was p'ed off with how the end of the event went down. I was busting my a$$ off for an hour and a half, chipping away at every possible point, neglecting my kids while still getting them to bed, and I still finished on the outside looking in. I'll apologize up front, but I won't ever be doing that again. I can get to a point total I'm content with when I can play, but having to push that hard at the end just to try and maintain my spot? No thanks. This game is fun to play, but it's becoming way too much work to get any of the covers I actually need to advance in the game. We'll see what the future brings, but I'm pretty soured on what went down over the last couple days.

Oh you have every reason to be pissed and I dont blame you one bit. You had more points than most (all?) of us and still you didnt even get to the tier with a 2nd Daken cover. I dont even see how thats possible really. I also wonder if the Devs are doing something behind the scenes since the rewards seem to be taking forever.

I'm actually glad to see you guys posting this because that is exactly how I felt at the end of the last Doom tourney. I haven't played in a tourney since. Someone had posted they lost 150 points in 2 hours. Me too. I lost 135 points in a little over one hour. As I was frantically trying to make it up, I was getting attacked left and right - even getting attacked multiple times while in a match! I also tried a Lightning Round recently as I hadn't done so in a while. Total waste of time. I played through the whole thing, but all I was getting was 17 point rounds (give or take) once I got past 200 points. My thoughts? This is BS. I'm putting in too much time and not getting enough out of it.

Honestly, I didn't even care about getting the new Daken. I was okay with a Bullseye cover as I am trying to level mine up. But I saw you guys were hyped about it, so I put in a best effort and took one for the team.

I didn't even get to play the Doom tourney!

I honestly have never had such a horror story with any tournament. I rarely drop that much when away. I guess I am just lucky? I feel bad though seeing that everyone else seems to have such a hell of a time.

That being said we all appreciate the extra push in this last event that you gave! : )

It is sad that I keep checking the game throughout work just to see there are still no rewards and then turning it off. haha

Yeah, games making a huge left turn & I dont even know why.  Especially after this event, the caption sums it up nicely. Plus Daken, since you guys want Daken so bad.

As for tournaments, just some advice as this is how Ive been playing them.  Get to the tier above you want or to a comfortable amount of points.  Make sure you have a heavy hitting team in place.  I dont care who your Go to team is, put a team up that has firepower.  Hulk, Thor, Ares something like that whatever.  Play a round, have them win, shield.

As for the shield make sure you are shielding within the last 2 hours of the tournament.  So get the 75 HP shield, sit and wait. Sure you'll see your score go up, or go down.  MAKE SURE YOU DONT PLAY ANYTHING WHILE SHIELDED!!!!! You go to an event, play a round here and there, that team becomes your defending team (albeit with the middle character replaced with whoever is the default tournament character).  Remember the people attacking you will be facing your guys at full hit points, which is why you want a kick ass team.  Plus the AI sucks ass & will always shoot off powers at the lowest cost. 

Breakdown

  1. Play as much as you want until about the last 2 hours of the tournament
  2. Play your last round with a heavy hitting team as to have them be your defending team
  3. Throw up 75 HP shield
  4. Dont play any other event, leave MPQ and dont come back until the last 20 minutes or whenever the tournament is over
  5. (Optional) Come back in the last 20 minutes, see your standing, break shields, and play out the ass or get F'd in the A, (your choice!) *note* possibilities are endless in the last 20 min, you can boost & bring your score up or you can be attacked and drop down to a lower tier. My advice, just dont do it!

Are you sure about this part? I always thought defending teams were event specific - if you're playing a lightning round to tank (not that it helps any more), you can go off to play the Simulator with your main team of characters.
 
I appreciate the advice, but I have never bought a shield. True Story, bro. I end up spending all my HP buying slots for all these seemingly one-off 3 star covers, so I don't get excluded from the "Essentials" and have to grind through the next event.

I have a shload of ISO right now and no one that I feel is worth leveling up.

EDIT: Also, want to add that when I lost those 135 points it was between 4 to 3 hours before the end of the Doom tourney.

Am I 100% sure about it no. however when I jump from event to tournament I notice that the team selected are the ones from the event, not the defending team I had on the tournament. Also to support my theory when I leave a team of heavy hitters and exit the game, when I log back in I usually see a win or two after being attacked. Take the last event for example, I use a team with Patch (required) MN Mags & Modern storm. If that becomes my defending team with patch being replaced by the required cover leaving only MN mags and modern storm, they easily get beaten & I come back & see my (MULTIPLE) losses.

The above exaample also supports my theory as this past tournament did you notice fighting the above mentioned combination? I recall actually beating a required character, modern storm, MN mags team multiple times. No reason for anyone to leave a team like that up unless the tournament team is replaced by the last battle won in an event.

Damn, long answer to say no Im not sure, but from what Ive played, it pretty much looks like it in theory.

I used to look at shields as a waste too, that was until I sat unshielded and got my ass dominated down to lower tier rewards.

Sure the Alliance will usually bring in 50 HP in rewards itself but the personal rewards is where you're looking at making up the difference.

All in all you look at it this way, is it worth saving the 75 HP now for whatever rewards you can get later. If you're in the top 10 and getting a collective 150 HP from personal and alliance rewards, then yes, as youve doubled your HP right there.

But thats just the way the devs have made this game now, you have to spend HP to get anywhere in tournaments. However they make tournaments a big deal with covers for essential nodes in events that you cant avoid them.

I guess I have to ask everyone else, Shields yes or no? Who uses them that never thought they would before? Share your stories with the group.

 
I'm not at that level, or at least, unable to play enough to be at that level. I can usually get in the top 50, but that's it.

I just resent shields because they rigged the game that way. The AI just blows. When I play, I win 99% of the time. When the AI represents me, I lose 99% of the time. And as I mentioned before, being attacked while in a match, much less multiple times is just total BS.

I do notice CStorm & MN Mags teams in the mid tiers (free win!), but I see that in every tourney, so I didn't think much of it. I haven't scoured the d3p forums, but I always got the impression events were self-contained. If it's universal, you would always have to play a PvP round after every PvE session just to reset your roster properly, and that could play Alex Summers with your shield strategy.

I think the real test will be when a PvE is something like a "bad guys only" story (which would be kinda cool, actually), and the number of villain covers in the concurrent PvP rosters increase or not.

I use them sparingly. When they first came out, they screamed "PAY TO WIN!!!" at me. But now they are pretty much part of the tournament economy if you want a top placement. I judge whether to use a shield on three criteria, in this general order:

  1. Do I really want the reward I've earned?
  2. Is my hold on my placement already tenuous?
  3. Is the alliance just on the border of falling down to a significantly worse tier (cover vs. token)?

The second one is the hardest to judge, because your view of the leaderboard gives you at most, twenty people in your bracket. If I'm in the top ten, I will usually shield. I make a finger-in-the-wind mathematical judgement call based on where I am in the list, relative to the point values and shield status of those above and below me in the list. If the top reward is of low interest, I will rarely shield unless #3 is in play.

Unrelated, has anyone played with a capped out IM40 and MN Mags where they aren't featured characters? I'm curious if an unboosted team up is as much fun as that pair was in Oscorp for my cover/level-poor teamup - they fed each other's abilities nicely and Patch dealt with green. Punisher would make for a decent rainbow connection to grab black as well in a simulator match.

EDIT: Speaking of the d3pforums, looks like they are taking the game down in 5 minutes for emergency server maintenance for a few hours.

Pretty much my thoughts on the shields as well.

Like you my biggest factor is based on how much I really want the cover. If I see I am at least 200 points higher generally than the top of the next lower tier, I throw up a shield within the last few hours. That being said though I can count the times I have used a shield on just one hand.

 
I'm about 1100 away from that 10 token heroic pack. Probably won't quite make it.

The rewards in the Iron Man tournament aren't appealing to me, so I don't quite feel the feed to play heavily in it. But, that's the only way I'll get decent season 1 points.

 
Never have used them before but based on math - if you gain additional 25 hp, why not? Heavy Metal doesn't really have a cover that I want.

 
I can still get in to the game, so I don't know about the maintenance.

My other thought on shielding is, is it worth it to spend 75 hp to get the reward?  If it's a three-star cover, then for me it is at this point, aside from green Hulk or black Loki, because those are maxed.  While I might not use a red Ragnarok much, it will come in handy for those tournaments or event nodes where he is required or boosted.

 
Can't get into the game due to "Login error" but I am getting notifications of losing battles. Seriously, get your act together.

 
I was sitting on the toilet... and I didn't know what to do.

I have made MPQ my go to game and so I have no others I care to really play. I looked for new games and found that I missed when they released XCom for Android, which I will likely get soon, but other than that I just actually used the bathroom as just that and didn't game at all.... Sad day.

Also.... THE DAKEN TOURNAMENT REWARDS ARE THE RED AND YELLOW 3* THOR COVERS!!

Mine is currently soft capped at 115 with 2/4/5 ... Those are literally the two covers I need to max him out!!! I am so stoked. Now if only I could get my Daken rewards so I could have a leveled up one to use in the event...

Just means that there will be an end of tourney fiasco like with the Oscorp event, with everyone trying to place at the last second. Great.

I dont care at all what happens, so long as in the end I get the two covers somehow. A 3/5/5 level 141 3* Thor (I have been saving ISO but still eventually 141 hah) Um yes please.

Yeah I was hopeful that maybe I would get to the 5k for the 10 pack but really I JUST got 3k for the Hulk cover so I do not see that happening at all. Womp womp womp. So long as I get my Thors nothing else matters : P

 
Well this whole event has been a huge ass cluster.  There are no words for this at all.  Got all 3 of my Dakens so I have nothing to complain about, but the handling was horrible.  Im not going to flip out like on the D3 forum since to those guys its obviously their life.

However they screwed up the oscorp event, went silent about the rewards, then the "servers went down" for some maintenance, all while they implemented a new update? Its all pretty shady how it all went down at around the same time. Usually they announce the server maintenance long before, not like in 15 minutes.  The update I knew was coming, I think.

Now Im reading about the "unfair advantage" for the people who already have their Dakens have.  What about the people who didnt score high enough to get one? What about the fact they usually give you a freebie Daken for the tournament? This delay in the rewards has people all kinds of butthurt for no damn reason.  Sometimes I use the freebie tournament character because 2-3 covers doesnt make them any more powerful & I hate wasting health packs on them! I just want to smack half the people on the forums complaining because in the end, its just a damn game.

PS I just woke up, yeah I know its almost 4pm cst, but I havent had my coffee & I feel like I slept on my face.  :drool:

Yeah I just ventured over there and the people are ridiculous.

While I agree that it was shitty, stuff happens. My biggest gripe is not that it happened but the lack of communication on their part.

When you have people saying they deserve free Daken covers because of it? That is just ridiculous. Yes it was an inconvenience but the extent that people have been going on over there is just embarrassing.
