the PS3 version will also come in a retail package that contains:

 • Redemption Code for full game
 • DVD case with sleeve
 • Data DVD with exclusive artwork (wallpapers, icons, character and content art), 4 trailers and screenshots
 • 8 page color manual with artwork and moves list
 • 1 month free subscription to Marvel Digital Comics ($9.99 value)
 • 2000 Capcom-Unity points - can be used for prizing and auctions

This is actually $5.00 more than the DD but this could be a deal for collector's and fans of the game.

EB/GS Preorder Link

UPDATE: Link is DEAD. Not sure why...could it be that they sold out?
UPDATE: 8-10-09

- package is confirmed: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/marvel-vs-capcom-2-retail-package-confirmed/
(looks like it won't contain the media disc unfortunately)

- preorder from EB/GS: here

Ok thanks, LOL. WTH would they do it like this?

Sony charges the developers for bandwidth used. If a developer can cut their overhead in half, I'm sure they would take it. (200MB vs 400MB of storage used, plus bandwidth use).

Went to two gamestops last night within a block of eachother... the first guy gave me some nonsense about not getting any in and having to make fake boxes (wtf?) and the guy at the second one didn't seem to be much of a gamer ("do you mean marvel vs capcom *2*?) but had enough sense to look in the system and see if they had it. Took a good 5 minutes for his boss to figure out where they were, but I scored one. Hurrah.
Dude, chill out. Let's see if we can remove that stick for you...
Thanks man. I'm practically crying over here.
no.

I'll take a physical copy over dd, thanks. If i do buy mvcc i am going to buy this. Sounds like someone is just a little biased against gamestop. Screw digital distribution and do not know why someone would like an artificial digital copy over physical, although this pack isn't entirely a physical copy.
preach!

can't wait until this hits clearance. That is the only monetary reason for preferring a physical copy, stores that have to clearance out SKUs. Shelf space wars FTW.

I'm buying this for 4.99 clearance

LOL! Not going to happen. Only 15,000 were made and ONLY GS has them. So good luck on holding out for that.

Is the game freezing up for anyone when you search for a player match? I tried it 2 times and it froze at the identical spot every time. I just did a quick search after that and finally got into some matches, and there is 0 lag! I played 4 different people and the results were absolutely amazing. I have it on both Live and PSN and the online seemed better on PSN, but this is a rare thing. Once they patch the freezing, it will be a great addition to the PSN.

A lot of people have been having freezing problems.
Ok thanks, LOL. WTH would they do it like this?
Yeah, I agree. This is incredibly stupid. I had to go online to figure out the same problem yesterday.

LOL I agree.

Such a failure. I bought one today. Only thing inside was the redemption code and the 1 month free subscription to Marvel Digital Comics. No color manual and no Capcom Unity points.
well they took out the extra DVD, manual and 2000 unity points. You're just paying for the case and voucher code. And since it's limited to only 15,000 the package is a lot less appealing now.
Yes I found out the hard way. This is just like the Comic Con TE sticks with no hadouyken joystick dust cover.
the only real thing that was enticing me was the manual and now that it's not included I'm just going to get it over psn since I already have a subscription to marvel
Yes I bought it at the store today because I still thought it had the color manual. Capcom loves screwing the customer over and over again.

Why even release a physical copy? Just for the box art?

How did they screw you over? The only public announcement THEY made (not joystiq, not anything else) said that there would be no manual.

Why are people still questing a retail release and complaining about it? This is not a new thing at all. Plenty of digital downloads have had cards released. This is the same, exact thing, except the code is in a box. Why would CAGs be pissed about having MORE options when it comes to making a purchase?

Because we were under the impression that we WERE getting more than just a code in a box. Like I said in my initial post I was out of town and wouldn't be able to buy it on PSN. I figured I just buy it at a GS thinking at least I would get a manual, free digital mags and Capcom Points out the deal. Well 2 stores and 36 miles out my way later, I bought the last copy available in the Twin Cities., which of course was opened. I was a bit miffed that there was only the game code and the Marvel comics code which I found out a few minutes ago was also available on the PSN. So yeah I'm a little pissed that I essentially paid $1.75 extra for a plastic box.

I picked up a physical case copy of MVC2 at Gamestop. Just happened to stop in to see whats around and noticed it. I was going to buy it on PSN anyway, but the case cover looks really cool. I'm a big Marvel fan as well :)

As a lot of people say around here, people will bitch about anything, given the chance.

Most should be happy there isn't a retail blu-ray disc of the game. Since we get the five system PSN download limit, its great for us that own multiple PS3s.

Exactly. Why get pissed, because you believed an unconfirmed blog post or "news" story? Not one of the stories I read ever confirmed that Capcom said anything was in the box besides the code.

No I didn't get a chance to see exactly what he was putting in the box. Like I said before I was on vacation so I haven't been on a computer much. No one knew about the "facts" untill yesterday as far as I knew. Then add the fact that a lot of stores had no extra copies past the pre-sales. I wish I just waited 'till I got home to dl it, but I'm not gonna complain about the game, just how the whole thing got blown out of proportion.
...I bought the last copy available in the Twin Cities.
Huh? I was thinking about picking this up and called a two stores right before close tonight and they both stated they had some in stock.

anyone out there want this mcv2 thing? I bought the last one today and went home to do it...but then i bought that shit on PSN by mistake while dowloading the demo and didnt even utilize the code. totally forgot eventho my wallet had 0.00 it will just take from my account.... so yeah, i got this at GS with blu ray case and 2 pieces of paper with codes on em...really stupid of me..was too anxious and i fucked up. PM me if interested. fucking pist over my stupidity!

hmmm..i just had a quick thought...since GS guts everything, whats to stop them from copying the codes from MvC2 and using them and then selling them to the customers with a code that has already been used? and if they complain, they can just say that we used it or whatever. is there a way to check if the code works without actually utilizing it?

another quick thought...whats to stop me from utilizing the code and then returning this shit back to them? not that i can anyways since i bought it off PSN already. GS gutting games is retarded. It becomes really retarded to gut games with codes in them that can be used once...man, fuck GS.

I like how you put what Capcom said in quotations, implying that they're not facts, but you made a purchase based off of what you read on unprofessional nerd blogs and took what they said as gospel.

Moron.

Really. I went to MOA and they were OOS. There were only 2 stores in a 100 mile radius that had a copy: Stillwater and Bloomington Shopping Center. I ended up going to Stillwater since it is relatively close to my Ma's house. Of course they might have gotten a new batch of them in Saturday.

Shit if you don't want the plastic box I'll give you $2 to ship it to me.

I was afraid of that happening too as I got an open box one. But luckily the first thing I did when I got home was enter the code and it worked fine.

On your second point, the GS I bought my game from told me I could not return it no matter what. He even said, here's the receipt, but there's really no point.

They giveaway the FREE Comics subscription if you purchase it from the PSN as well. However, I did not get mine yet!!! Anyone?

As for the retail box, GS wanted to sell me an open box as a NEW! In their dreams. It is not even worth the additional tax to get an empty box with a cheap art cover.

u kno what..i really would like to keep the case...so if theres anyone out there that hasnt DLed this game and wants to, ill give the codes for $13. When you buy on PSN with tax it's $16. save 3 bucks...

I did not get any type of notification either and I bought it on the PSN Thursday.

Asswipe.

You were under assumption that I put what Capcom said in quotations which in fact I was implying to was these "nerd blogs" as you like to call it. I didn't even bother to go on any of these sites. Just this OP and gamestop.com. Of course, when EVERYONE decided to post this news about it Tuesday night, I considered it old news. So yeah, thanks for calling this site a nerd blog. Now go away little girl.

Nah, thats okay. I can always use the case for other games.

I got a stupid question to ask.
DOes the MVC2 case, with the 2 pieces of paper, have the usual disc holder at least?
Just wondering if I can at least have the option to use the case to hold another disc.
or maybe just create a dummy disc with a fanart of mvc2 and then put it into the case =P

It comes in a normal PS3 case so you're basically getting an extra case.

damn had to get the retail pack online since none of the gamestops near me have any psn cards and they dont have the mvc2 retail package. whats up with gamestop not even having psn cards online?

Hm, I wonder if they got in another shipment or something. A day or two ago the store tracker showed that the closest location was ~40 miles away for this, but now the four closest locations (two within 4 miles, the other two within 15 miles) are showing them in stock. I guess if anyone was going to order online and pay for shipping, I suggest checking the locator at least once more. I may actually bite on it just for the physical case and such.
Just to confirm is there a manual in the case? i picked up from GS but just the DL code and code for free comic.
It's been mentioned MANY times in this thread if it comes with a manual or not.

So why not answer the question with a Yes or No and save yourself the trouble of writing the extra words?

I finally got mine. Just in case anyone wants to know and hasnt read the other posts. You get a case just like a normal game with a cover and PS3 game case, and the contents inside are 2 cards, one with the PSN code to get the game (remember not to go through the store but through the "my account" option and imput the code) and a large card that is too big for the case with marvel comic points. The game should come shrink wrapped unless your GS opened it for a display copy.

All that being said, has any had any issues connecting to a game? Every time I load it up it freezes my PS3 while searching for matches. The music plays but I cant access the XMB or even cancel the search. If anyone has had this problem or knows why this is happening a little help would be much appreciated.

Expect a patch in a month according to the devs, maybe a little longer.
It seems to work fine if you have a friend and invite each other for private matches.
