Marvel vs. Capcom 3 discussion thread

Since i know nothing about teams, someone help me out here. Which looks the best?

1)hulk/MODOK/sentinel
2)hulk/dormammu/sentinel
3)hulk/dormammu/MODOK
4)sentinel/dormammu/MODOK

I think 4 seems the sweetest. It seems like sentinel > hulk in this game. :(
 
looks like PDP will be making fightpad instead of Madcatz this time. It will have a thumbpad instead of dpad.



Personally I am going to be using my Hori EX2 Turbo for this game.

I wonder how much of a disadvantage I'll be at by using the controller instead of a fightstick. Not entirely thrilled about spending 70 bucks on a fightstick when I don't really play too many fighting games.

The Hori Pad EX 2 is wayyyy better than the Madcatz FightPad IMO.

The PDP fightpad has microswitches for the pad/stick. Think NeoGeo Pocket style. I really don't like my madcatz fightpad anymore. The dpad is just a little too floaty for me.

Whoo man, I played/play the crap out of Marvel VS Capcom 2. At the moment, though, I just don't have that many fighting games. Thinking of picking up Tekken 6 or Super Street Fighter IV, but as of now the only fighting game I own is MvC2, and soon to be MvC3. I suppose it'd be worth it if i grabbed those, I'm just not sure if it really makes that much of a difference.

For what it's worth, yeah, I know my Gamertag is moronic. It was one of those situations where I thought it was hilarious when I made it, but 2 days later I regretted it. Not really feeling paying 800 points just to change the damn thing, though.

I hear ya. I've personally been aggravated at the name for a bit now. You know how awkward it is when someone asks for your Gamertag and you have to say "Yeah, it's...uh..it's 'Dats So Pringles'. Yeah, I know...yeah."?

Any news on whether there's anything like the Endless Lobbies from SFIV on here? Would make battling with buds a whole lot better.

Just curious....I'm not really into fighters that much, but I want to get into MvC3. I'm going to get a low-cost stick and I'm torn between the SSIV madcatz ($75 ish) or the Tekken 6 hori stick ($60). Is one superior over the other in terms of quality and user interface.

Also, does anyone know if I'd be able to customize the controls on the hori stick? I ask because the layout isn't set up for capcom fighters.

I agree with Jimbo. The Tekken Hori is wireless and the SFIV Madcatz isn't, but the Madcatz one is easier to mod with premium parts (in case you wanted to get really serious) or fix (in case parts break down). I'm not entirely sure how the Tekken Hori is wired, but if my DOA4 Hori is any indication, it's not made for easy modding.

Also, Madcatz routinely runs special sales on their sticks, so you can probably get it for a good deal cheaper than $70.

We haven't seen anything about it, but I'm sure there's button config in MvC3, so you don't have to worry about that. It's essentially guaranteed.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go with the madcatz, because I am somewhat interested in modding at some point. Even though I'm a life long (30 years) gamer, I haven't really been too into the fighting scene, so this is kind of new to me.
 
You should go with the Mad sticks. I got mine for next to nothing from Wally deal. I ended up modding them with sanwa parts(approx $50usd shipped) for 8 buttons, stick, balltop and an octagonal restrictor plate. That is ridiculous cheap. It is very easy to mod. I can tell you that the buttons feel alot smoother and easier once i went with the generic to the sanwa.

Has anyone been following ebay? MvC3 SE prices have skyrocketed.
 
I've found MvC2 a bit tougher to play with the Stick due to the button layouts, which were designed for the Dreamcast controller--or at least less intuitive.

That being said, the stick itself still makes it over the d-pad
 
I have fightpads for now... I'm thinking of getting one of the WWE fight sticks when they go on clearance. Any one know if it's easy to replace the art on those? I still kind of want the MVC2 stick that my Gamestop has.

Do you know how much they are charging? A few of the Gamestops around here have them, but I'm not interested in paying $150. I'm hoping that maybe the price has lowered and the GS just hasn't put a new sticker on the box.

129.99. Not a huge price reduction. If I spent that much on a stick my wife might kill me or divorce me. I MIGHT be able to talk her in to 80.00 or so, but it would be one hell of a talk.

I wouldn't consider that spoiler info. Spoilers usually deal with story elements (including bosses) and secrets. Health is just regular info about the characters.

Thanks for the heads up. Most of the stores in my area are supposed to get it so I'll probably swing by Tuesday or Wednesday to check.
 
I guess my local Best Buy is having one. It was in one of the drop boxes, but when I clicked the story link nothing was there. I really want to play it too.

I am not that good at 2D fighters but I'm excited for this game as well. My buddy lives right next to a Best Buy so I'm gonna have him check for me. Be funny if there are a bunch of people there and it's like the old days in the arcade for a bit. :D

Phoenix has such low health because she can regenerate herself as Dark Phoenix with 5 full bars, she apparently is super strong in this state but you gradually lose health.

Interesting. So one would generally keep her as backup until you have 5 bars then call her out.
 
But in Dark Phoenix mode her health constantly drains while she's out. Considering every character has a 100% combo, she's unplayable unless you're an expert in execution.

Thanks, Tom! I'll be checking out the Florence, KY Bestbuy after work and will report back. I imagine people laying quarters down on the demo isle shelfing for some reason...

Where'd you see that about the 100% combos?

It's just based on observation and feedback from people who have the game now. Every character can at least do a 100% combo by initiating X-Factor mid-combo. I don't think it's clear how many characters have 100% combos without X-Factor.

My guess is she has a frame advantage on anything and everything when it comes to attacks so she can start attacking early and often, but why would you start with her?
