Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3 January 2011
blasphemy! liar
Yeah sorry. I edited to reflect SCEE's superiority over SCEA.

I'm really getting sick and fucking tired of the whole content certification process what with how inept, inefficient, and ineffective the whole damn thing is.

Stuff sits in cert for weeks so that Microsoft and Sony can run down a hardware/software checklist all the while massive data corrupting and generally game ending bugs sail right on through.

So the player gets shit on from every side because the developers and publishers don't playtest thoroughly enough and the platform holders only look at things which can hurt them at a system/network level. Meanwhile Joe Gamer is waiting weeks on a patch to fix something nasty which should have never made it through in the first place.

Dearest Sony and Microsoft,

Eat a fat dick while you study Valve. (ya know that company that makes more per-employee money than either Apple or Google)

Nope. I blamed Sony for leaving a patch, which should have been a quickly turned-around hotfix, sitting in cert limbo for weeks while gamers continued to lose hours upon hours of game time.

That same cert process that we all spent weeks waiting on failed to catch the data corrupting bug in the first place. In fact it never catches these types of bugs...hell they don't even playtest to find these types of bugs.

Weeks? I'm sorry but you don't really have a clue do you? Bioware is the one who took weeks to actually deliver the patch to Sony with zero communication during that time. The earliest confirmation that we have that Sony had possession of it was 12 days ago, that's hardly "weeks" now is it? Can you guarantee it's just been sitting around for 12 days without any sort of testing? Please provide that proof.

The fact of the matter is, it was Bioware that fucked up. It was Bioware that should have ensured the game wasn't broken, and it's Bioware that has been making owners wait the longest period of time. It is absolutely idiotic to pin any of this on Sony. Their job is not to play test the games, that's the developers job. I feel sorry for you if you can't understand that. Additionally there are still plenty of bugs and glitches that Bioware has not fixed with this patch, including a game breaking one that has been on 360 for over a year now. Blaming Sony or Microsoft for any part of this issue is just absolutely ridiculous, period.

Bioware has just released an official patch for Mass Effect 2's PS3 version - and unwittingly revealed some information about the final piece of downloadable content for the game in the process.

Three new trophies included with the new patch all refer to a new piece of DLC titled 'Arrival' - and Bioware had previously confirmed that one more piece of downloadable content was on the way for Mass Effect 2 via their Cerberus News Network service.

The trophies, which will be called achievements in the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game, are titled 'The Ultimate Sacrifice', 'Covert Action' and 'Last Stand'. The new trophies were spotted by a user over at the Bioware forums and then reposted by the guys over on massive gaming forum NeoGAF. A shot of the trophies on the PS3 can be viewed in that forum post.

The descriptions for the trophies reveal more detailed information about the DLC - but if this checks out and is true (and it's looking that way), they contain spoilers. We're not looking to spoil unreleased content for anyone - so we're going to slap a nice big screenshot of Mass Effect 2 here. Beware scrolling past it - there are potential spoilers for the DLC down there!

The descriptions for the trophies reveal a little more interesting information. Here they are, in full:

The Ultimate Sacrifice - Complete the Arrival DLC
Last Stand - Survive all five waves in the battle for Object Rho
Covert Action - Rescue Dr. Amanda Kenson without attracting hostile attention.

Dr. Amanda Kenson has been mentioned once before in Mass Effect 2 - in the final Cerberus News Network update before the service shut down last month. That update read as follows:

"Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus. Her team claims that by testing the dust trapped in the gravity wells around a mass relay, and comparing its composition to that of dust clouds in the same system, scientists can create a timeline of when the relay passed through the dust. Her conclusion? “Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years,” she writes, “The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans.” Dr. Aurana T’Meles of the University of Serrice met the information with skepticism: “While Dr. Kenson’s methods appear sound, the asari tried a similar procedure centuries ago and discounted it. What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species now?"

Sweet... Can't wait.

fucking Bioware. Of course they finally release this patch when I buy MvC3, and I got Bulletstorm coming tomorrow. It's fucking bullshit and I had literally nothing to play last week due to not wanting to start a new PS3 game until Bulletstorm came out (got MvC3 on Sunday due to my friends wanting me to buy it). Being a programmer, it annoys the hell out of me when companies can put out bugs like the save game erase in ME2 and think they can sell it.

I hope the "Arrival" DLC matches the caliber/content of LotSB, but that is just wishful thinking. At least something similar to Overlord in volume. As for one of the trophies,
Last Stand sounds like Grunt's loyalty mission, but with 5 rounds of enemies.

Well if you would have read any into it, the save bug wouldn't have stopped you from playing, heck the solution they came up with for people, and seemed to work quite effectively, was to take a break every few hours.

Maybe it's just me but I usually can't sit and play a game straight for more then 4 hours, even Call of Duty with friends, so the solution seems like a very simple one that you could have taken to prevent it and enjoy the great game, don't blame the developer for your lack of willing.

Anyway, can't wait for the Arrival DLC, then the long wait for ME 3.

hmm, they had said cerberus network was for rolling out dlc. but all it was, was project overlord (sidequest, not story driven), shadow broker (story driven for me3), and just this last dlc, 3 trophies indicate it'll be just as short as the other two.

:(

luckily i still love mass effect, lets hope its not a flop like dragon age's last dlc (finding morrigan)

I don't get what you're complaining about with regards to the Cerberus Network. It was for rolling out DLC and it's served its purpose. Everything you mentioned was paid DLC on the 360.

That combined with backing up your Shep profile to USB. It gave me a peace of mind when playing, no issues at all.

Yep I saved religiously and I played through without worrying much about the corruption. I did however avoid the Shadow Broker mission like it was the plague as that was where many people on the Bioware forums said their save corrupted. I'll probably play through it now.

I'm hoping Bioware fixes the other significant issues with the game. The NG+ bug is still present where you don't get your weapons or armor in the new game.

that its the final one lol, wish that word wouldnt be revealed in the reports

I went ahead and download the new costume pack........they did'nt even charge me tax...and usually they tax everything I buy.

It still would of been a pain in ass. I heard reports of it happening to people who have not played for hours (and people who just did the shadow broker mission which I am about to do when I get back into ME2), and besides I play for an hour and a half maximum. I would of rather not taken the chance because knowing my luck I would of got the glitch and my thumb drive would of failed or something .

Finally finished the game. Even managed to get No One Left Behind with Miranda and Zaeed disloyal :D. Anyone know what the deal is with the importing saves to Mass Effect 3? I'm continuing the game and finishing all the sidequests. If I start another playthrough on Insane (last trophy) and bullshit the choices, etc., can I pick which save I can carry over (I'd prefer my first playthrough)?

Just start a new character, it will make a separate save from your 1st playthrough. Don't worry, you'll get the bonuses for beating the game since they are tied to your trophies. When ME3 comes out, you can select which save you want to import.

yeah thats one of those mercenary groups, eclipse maybe. im guessing thats you or some1 you know in that prison cell thingy

In the top left screen it's a female, blue one too....

Could it be the chick that took over the shadow brokers job? Cuz it doesn't look like the Justicar, no clevage.

Durp, shame on me. LOL.

The DLC, which will launch on PC, 360 and PS3, sees Shepard being sent to the “border of the galaxy” to rescue a female undercover agent that might have evidence for an upcoming Reaper invasion.

Admiral Hackett, who is voiced by Lance Henriksen, will also return to play a “major” role.

“All year, we have been extremely honored and humbled by the reception we have received for Mass Effect 2 from players around the world, including our post release DLC,” said series producer, Casey Hudson.

“Mass Effect: Arrival is an exciting extension to Mass Effect 2 and will show players just how close the Reapers are to returning and completing their deadly harvest.”

The DLC is the final pack for Mass Effect 2 before this holiday’s release of Mass Effect 3. It’ll launch for 560 BioWare/MS points on PC and 360. It’ll be £5.49 on PSN.

Yes, I get the audio out of sync occasionally, mostly it seems to be after I have been playing for several hours in a row, then corrects itself when another cutscene starts. Isn't much of an issue for me when it happens since I play with the subtitles on.
So has everything been fixed on this yet as far as save deleting and what have you? Thinking of starting it back up this weekend.
Supposed to have been fixed with that last update, I waited to start playing till after it and I've only experienced one game freeze in about 40 hours of playing, no save game problems, and audio sync problems every now and then in cutscenes.

Thanks for responding

I purchased the game on release day only to realize you can't read that text without an HD TV, I've been semi-searching for a new TV ever since. And I lent the game to my brother who says it is "AWESOME"!

The Mass Effect 2 DLC ever go on sale on Xbox live? Wondering if I should wait and hope The Arrival goes on sale a little before Mass Effect 3 releases or just go ahead and purchase it once I finish the main game.

Yes. In fact, I'd be surprised if Arrival didn't go on sale right before ME3 launches.

Anyone else surprised and/or disappointed that in "Arrival", Shepard is alone (no squad members)? It was a sure buy for me but after finding this out, I'm not so sure anymore.

It's not like your teammates do shit anyways but get in the way and somehow manage to get stuck behind closing doors.

Maybe they are going to
blow up the Normandy again (with all its crew this time) while your doing the mission
and make you start over recruiting another team again at the start of ME3.

There were on sale for $2.50 each one day during their 10 days of Christmas promotion. Meanwhile, the PC versions of the DLC NEVER went on sale.

Mass Effect 2 The Arrival DLC is due to release tomorrow and it’s seemingly only one hour long; and that’s something that may put off consumers especially considering the price you have to pay for it.

Reports from the official BioWare forums are emerging that the downloadable content is roughly an hour long.

Spoiler:
Okay so yeah. The DLC is okay, it’s not as amazing as Lair of The Shadow Broker.
But it sets things up awesomely for ME3.
I didn’t feel like I was playing My Shepard. I felt like I was watching another version of Shepard.
The music was very amazing and Jack Wall-esque.
7 out of 10.
About an hour as max level Shepard post suicide mission.

Then, Rey Gutierrez – Sony’s Senior Social Media Specialist – confirmed the game’s price via the a comment on the PlayStation Blog. It’ll be $6.99 when it releases tomorrow.

I just beat ME2 and was really impressed with the game, it had me hooked the entire game. Usually with these long games I play non-stop then I take a few months off then go back to it, not with ME2. I put 50 hours into it and was eager to start a new insanity play thru as soon as I finished.

I have to say though insanity is... well insane. I never really struggled with the game on normal, there were a few sticking points but nothing major. The intro level was a breeze but then the first real mission was a slow crawl for me. I can't imagine the later missions on insanity, hopefully I will get better fast ha.

I opted for a new game rather than NG+ because I read it was a bit easier even.

I'm looking at the arrival DLC it came out right at the perfect time for me, just finished the game and am all hyped up about playing. I am worried though it will screw up my insanity run though if I try to play arrival with my original game save on normal.

LOL, after doing every side mission, loyalty mission, and main game mission (I think) I am 300 XP short of lvl 30. Guess you have to get Arrival to reach lvl 30 on your first playthrough on the PS3, sneaky.

just a long 7 month wait from here on forward until part 3, whatever they do, they cant kill off shepard, he's a legend now.

dont worry, insanity gets way easier after horizon, the real tough parts are recruiting "archangel" and jack. are you a soldier class? cuz that makes things TOO easy on insanity (the mattock dlc rifle for shepard and incisor dlc sniper rifle for crew members make every fight a joke)

Ouch, haha.

Anyway, DLC hierarchy for me. LotSB > Overlord >>> Arrival > Kasumi.
Ouch, haha.

I told someone yesterday that LotSB is the best mission in the entire series.
Ilos
from mass effect 1 comes in a close second, with the final mission of Mass Effect 2 having a slightly larger gap in quality for third place.

I can't wait to play arrival, despite the review scores and entry.
Ouch, haha.

At first I was enjoying the idea behind Kasumi's mission quite a bit, as I thought it was going to be a little like the Hitman series where you sneak around and can solve the mission stealthily, but then was slightly disappointed when it turned into one of the most generic firefights in all of ME2. The vault was very cool though.

If I had played ME1, I think LotSB would have resonated with me more as I would of had prior history with Liara beyond what little was in the Genesis Comic, but it is an enjoyable mission (watching enemies bounce off the ship is quite satisfying).

In terms of my favorite DLC, I think I have to go with Overlord. Though they padded out the runtime with the 6 data packets guarded by turrets and the time spent flying between bases, the story was the strongest of the three IMO. I did Overlord pretty early so the choice whether to
turn David over to Cerberus for study or the Academy for rehabilitation and treatment
seemed pretty weighty in its effect for ME3, but when you later
meet and recruit the Geth Legion as an ally and learn about the "Heretics"
it doesn't seem nearly as important. If I saved Overlord for after the main game I could see how the choice (and thus the story) would of had much less of an impact.

Where they were unlocked in the game (Katsumi, Zaaed, and Overlord near the beginning and Lair of the Shadowbroker near midway) and playing them as you progress instead of all after the main game (how most played it on the 360) also shapes your opinion of the quality of the missions I think. Taking part in a heist after surviving an epic suicide mission which saved the galaxy seems demeaning, but as a mission at the start of the game when people barely believe you are alive, it fits much better into the narrative. It's the same with Overlord as I mentioned above, when you play the mission in the story shapes the importance of the mission.

The Kasumi mission was included with the PS3 game so I had no idea that was one of the additional DLC's until later on. It really didn't seem like much to justify an additional cost to be honest.

It's kinda sad that the arrival is so short. I bought it because I heard it would have an impact on ME3. Personally I really feel these Mass Effects DLC packs are not that good (besides the Katsumi mission which was badass), but other than that, they are kinda meh for me. I pray to god ME3 doesn't have any DLC. Not because I hate DLC but it's supposed to be the last game in the series and I want a god damn ending, not an ending and then 16 dlc missions which isn't an ending then.
