Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3 January 2011
LOL, after doing every side mission, loyalty mission, and main game mission (I think) I am 300 XP short of lvl 30. Guess you have to get Arrival to reach lvl 30 on your first playthrough on the PS3, sneaky.
I thought that was how it was going to turn out for me as well, but I got it with a couple side missions to spare. If you wait and do the DLC and side missions until after you do the main game missions, you'll get to level 30 easily. You get bonus xp on missions after finishing the story.

Yeah I finished the game at lvl 29, but I didn't even do the shadow broker, or overlord missions (this was before the patch and was taking precautions), and some of the other side missions so I think I can get to 30 after I do so.
I told someone yesterday that LotSB is the best mission in the entire series.
Ilos
from mass effect 1 comes in a close second, with the final mission of Mass Effect 2 having a slightly larger gap in quality for third place.

I can't wait to play arrival, despite the review scores and entry.
ilos was brilliant
driving that hammerhead with seconds to spare and geth shooting at you on your run to the mass relay was epic
, and the rachni queen.

dont worry, insanity gets way easier after horizon, the real tough parts are recruiting "archangel" and jack. are you a soldier class? cuz that makes things TOO easy on insanity (the mattock dlc rifle for shepard and incisor dlc sniper rifle for crew members make every fight a joke)
I actually beat the archangel mission pretty easy, I am on the professor now and about half way with no major sticking points. I play for short bursts and then take a break and seem to be moving along pretty well now. I am a soldier class.

You can start a NG+ and get to lvl 30 easy, I got from lvl 28 to 30 by the end of the first mission after the tutorial. No need to buy the DLC to get the lvl 30 trophy and there's nothing to gain by doing it on 1 play through.

about the very last mission...
after you shoot the links off the human reaper, when its falling, does any1 ever notice the illusive man overlooking from above (for a couple seconds)!? ive seen it now on ps3 and pc, i previously thought it was a graphical glitch on the ps3 but after seeing it on the pc im just wracked with curiosity if he was put there on purpose
It's a pre-rendering error for the hologram, nothing more. It was mentioned in the Bioware forums, iirc.
Just to update, my insanity run is moving along pretty solid right now.

About to start the horizon mission and haven't struggled the last few character unlocks at all. Grunt was pretty tuff but I only died a few times. I've been holding my team mates back and taking on the bad guys on my own usually picking them off one at a time when I can. My team likes to just stand toe to toe with rocket launchers and die quick.

I am worried about horizon I remember those big open areas having to survive wave after wave. I got just about 6 hours into insanity and already at the horizon mission, so sad how much time I spent mining in my normal difficulty run through to rack up 50 hours ha.

Well reached the first praetorian in the collector ship on insanity with my adept and it was like hitting a brick wall. Even after luring the the praetor up the ramp so that I could run down and shut the door without getting roasted by the beam in 2 seconds to stop the ENDLESSLY spawning husks and collectors. I even managed to run back all the way to the ramp loop so that I could circle it without it hitting me. But then it started continuously slam charging its barrier before I could even get it all the way down to armor.

Insanity run is officially not fun anymore.

Yeah. I guess I'm glad I did it, but if I wind up running through the PS3 version on insanity, I'll be playing a soldier for semi-easy mode.

Hardest part on insanity for me was (I think) in that same ship around some moving platforms. Much rage.

Was thinking about getting this, but then again I have BFBC2 coming in the mail and I need that DLC a little bit more.

I ended up taking most of that thing's barriers down with an SMG with warp ammo along with heavy warp whenever I had to reload. Though I don't remember the spawns in there being endless; I just quickly killed the three or so waves that came out before the Praetorian made it up the ramp. Also, the Cain will probably do a boatload of damage to the thing if you're still able to switch weapons.

Finally got it in a couple more tries, Praetor was continuously slam charging because my squad kept roaming under it. So after rushing over to close the door, I positioned my squads away from the ramp loop and they were free to plink away at its barrier/armor and it only occasionally slam charged its barrier as it chased me around the loop. Yay, no more praetors (that I have to fight).

some1 has put up mass effect 3 info from the may issue of game informer:

spoilers ahead for those who are too stupid to stop themselves from reading something fast enough, ahem ahem...
source:http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/995452-mass-effect-3/58730036
"Got my new Game Informer, read the ME3 article. Game starts with Shepard on Earth, effectively on trial in regard to the events of Arrival, and in the middle of the trial, the Reapers invade. Prologue involves Shepard's escape to the Normandy, and off to start finding those allies, fighting Reaper troops (husks of all the different species) the whole way.

Confirmed squadmates: Liara, Ashley/Kaiden, Garrus (if he's alive) and... James Sanders... That must be the guy from the trailer, I don't remember.

Speaking of which, there's a screenshot of Ashley with her hair down, and she actually looks hot. Don't have a scanner, so wait till someone with one turns up.

Confirmed to appear, but not guaranteed as squaddies: Wrex, Mordin, Legion, and Anderson. Obviously, if they live.

The game will by default feature a "previously on Mass Effect" comic to make decisions with if starting from scratch.

The Illusive Man also plays a prominent role, and Cerberus is out to kill Shepard. Reason why is unknown at this point.

The RPG elements are being beefed up, not going back to ME1, but giving more freedom with the character skills. Skill trees will be larger, and powers will evolve several times instead of just once, offering even more freedom. Weapons are ME2 style, with a set list, but mods make a return, not in the ME1 style, but allowing you to swap out different parts such as barrels, scopes, and so on, which effect both the weapon's combat performance and its appearance.

All classes can wield all weapons unhindered now, but will have limited slots to carry them. Only the Soldier can carry all weapons at once. Probably means Adept, Engineer, and Sentinel will be limited to two, and Vanguard and Infiltrator will have three.

Also mentioned: The game will have numerous endings, some good, some bad, and who you have in your squad and which allies you recruit can have a drastic effect on which are available.

That's basically the gist of it, except for the sidebars filled with stuff everyone already knows.

they watched a video of a segment involve a krogan vehicle train with Shepard riding along, and as it goes a Reaper comes down from the sky to attack. Shepard's vehicle is destroyed, and fighting the thing is impossible on foot. Then a Thresher Maw comes out of the ground and attacks the Reaper. The Thresher gets the upper hand by coiling itself around the Reaper, then drags it underground. It gets quiet, and seems to be over, then laser fire begins erupting from the ground, and Shepard decides this is a good place not to be. It then trails off into a description of how everything is so much bigger than the previous games."

Hmm
Makes me glad I told TIM to fuck off and blow up the base. Also, happy to hear they are sort of incorporating more RPG elements from ME1 since ME2 was just a shooter. Hopefully later there will be a confirmation of Tali as a squadmate.

I just beat ME2 for the first time and was looking for some good spoiler-casts talking about the different endings you could get. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This is for anyone who owns ME2 on the ps3 and has played it.

Is it worth re-buying?

I personally like playing games on my ps3 a little better than my 360 but I have already have ME2CE on my 360 but was considering buying this for ps3 since I never played any of the DLC and because if 2 is on ps3 then I assume 3 will be also which in that case Ill buy 3 for ps3 so I can just import my save. I like the idea of not having to play ME1 completely over again just so I can see a different ME2 since Id beaten ME1 like 3 or 4 times over the years.

And dont spoil anything for me but when you do the intro thing with the choices from ME1 can you make it so Ashley is your love interest in ME2? During 360 version I was trying to keep her as my love interest but I accidently took a conversation with jack too far and lost ashleys pic on my desk and didnt know till after I saved it.

I thought the picture on your desk was to remind you of the person that died... I may be wrong though, i didn't play ME1, and don't spend a lot of time in my quarters.

If you plan to purchase ME3 on the PS3 (yes, they are being released on both systems on the same time) and want your decisions to carry over I would say it is worth it, especially if you haven't played ME2 in awhile as I doubt they are going to do a genesis comic for ME3 since ME2 was released on both systems.

One of the choices in the genesis comic for ME1 is which of these two characters is your love interest, Ashley (Kaiden if female) or the Asari. If you didn't
kill Ashley in ME1
, then you meet up with her once mid-way through the game on a mission and then not again. I imagine if you are faithful throughout ME2, something will happen in ME3.

Is that right?

I assumed it was because she was my love interest since her picture was on my desk in the captains quarters. But soon as I took a conversation with jack too far on accident the picture wasnt on my desk anymore.

Or
maybe she did die after the run with the collectors in ME2. I dont know for sure.

Anyone clairfy what the holo picture on your desk means?

I will say that maybe not for $60 but as a whole it is worth rebuying. It includes all the DLC but the last one. Defiantly wait for a price drop since all the DLC except the cerberus network is on the disk.

The party that doesn't die in ME1 (ashley or kaidan) appears on the citidel at some point. So nobody important dies in the beginning of ME2.

In the comic at the beginning, I romanced Liara, and let Ashley die in ME1. My desk had a picture of Ashley on it, and if you clicked it he said something about her being dead. I'm not really sure how the romance stuff works. I invited Kelly to dinner a while ago, and after the shadow broker DLC, Liara came up to my room, but I couldn't seal the deal.

Supposed to be your love interest, at least according to the Mass Effect Wiki. You turn it face down/get rid of the picture if "lock in" to a future encounter with someone on the ship. If you are faithful then you look longingly at the picture just before
the Suicide Mission, the point where you would of had sex with a new relationship on the ship

You get a message from Ashley after that mission so I
doubt she died

Whew, Insanity trophy dinged. I was worried because I started it before the latest patch (which fixed potentially missing the credit for an insanity playthrough), and the trophy doesn't show up till the talk with the elusive man so I thought I had missed it.

Insanity + platforms = fuck

I am on the platforms and having a hard time with it. The first few tries I couldn't even take out the first platform. Now I am typically taking out everyone then the last platforms shows up, only problem is I have no ammo left! No one is dropping any ammo for me, I could have beat it if I had the ammo, it's killing me.

What class are you and what squad mates are you taking with you? I took Thane and Miranda with me into the final battle as two warps are quite helpful to weaken collectors to conserve ammo. Eventually I ran out of ammo and had to switch from my assault rifle to my submachine gun. Or are you talking about the set of platforms about 1/2 way into the game?

I like spoiler tags.

I am talking about the platforms on the Ghost Ship, the first enemy encounter on the ship. I am playing as a soldier, new game not NG+.

I've tried 2 combos sofar, jack and miranda and miranda and garrus. I've had better luck with garrus miranda sofar.

The first platform I am hitting with 2 grenades and can take them all out before a harbinger shows up. The next platform I can deal with pretty easy but some times the harbinger just charges me and kills my party way fast. If I survive that wave I am left with the 2 scions. I survive just fine but my squad keeps moving even though I put them in safe cover and they either die or I run out of ammo plinking away at the scions. Then the other platform shows up and I have nothing left for them. I need to figure out a way to take out the 2 scions without blowing my ammo away.

I thought the harbingers drop ammo but they don't seem to for me it sucks.

Since we're talking about insanity playthroughs, should I do new game or ng+? Soldier or will it be too hard as a Sentinel (I kinda wanna try a different class, unless the differences are subtle)?

new game+ for the resources and extra power bonus. soldier makes insanity too easy, unless you stick to one weapon; like a sniper rifle, then it'll be somewhat challenging (due to the limited ammo available so you gotta take your shots carefully and rely more on your squad members).

i've started a renegade sentinel run on insanity, and i picked barrier as a bonus power, to save my ass when my health drops too low, you can try the same.

i;ve seen people play as vanguard i think and never shoot a single bullet play through the game, you can try that too..

You get the new game bonuses (+credits, resources, +25% experience) for starting a fresh character as long as you have already beaten the game. The only downside is you start at a low level again with default weapons, if you start a NG+ you begin high level with almost all of your weapons. After finishing veteran soldier I finished a fresh Adept Insanity playthrough.

platform
Flashbang grenade prevents Harbinger from using his abilities if you can't stop him from overrunning you, Garus's squad armor piercing ammo (it is a little redundant with your burning ammo) will come in handy, but none of his other abilities help in the fight beyond concussion shot on the initial barrier. Might try switching out Garrus for Mordin as Inferno blast + Warp will cook the hell out of Scion and Harbinger armor, allowing you to save ammo for the collectors. Make sure to take out all the collectors in the field before finishing off Harbinger (if possible) or you waste ammo fighting another Harbinger incarnation as it takes control of another weakened enemy. Then when it is down to the two Scion's in front, sit back just in lock on range and alternate hitting them with Inferno blast and Warp. It will take awhile, but you won't use any ammo.

If you don't mind cheesing it a little, you can use 1 point of stasis (assuming you've beaten overlord this game or in a previous game) to take out the Scion on the moving platform. Hit it with stasis just before the platform moves and it will stay in place but the platform will move causing it to fall to its death when it gets free. That also works on enemies arriving by platform, hit an enemy with stasis near the back of the platform as soon as it gets in range, and it should stick in place and fall to its doom when it unlocks if the platform moves enough. Unfortunately stasis does not work on Harbinger.

Quick platform question.
Does the last platform show up after you kill a scion? I seem to get down to the 2 scions and as soon as I kill one scion the last platform shows up. Or, is it just a timed thing?

Oh platforms how I have defeated you!

Details:
Ok, I loaded up and kept my same team, garrus and maranda and went at it with my same strategy as before. I got all the way down to one scion on the moving platform and one collector with my team all dead and my health about gone. I was in a panic and kept trying to go into cover but instead I stood there and got dead again. I reloaded and did pretty bad a few times in a row.

Then I got a good run and had plenty of ammo and my team with medi-gel once I got down to the 2 scions. I used my grenades on the third platform and took out 2 collectors pretty easy and left the harbinger. He put up a fight and took out my team but I survived. That left 1 scion on the platform.

I got as far away as I could and plinked away at him, he managed to hit me randomly and took my health way down making me panic. In the end I survived! I was so happy to be past that and the rest of the ship really seemed easy after those platforms ha.

I am debating on trying to level up a bit before the IFF/Last mission or just go at it now with level 14.

I would do some more leveling, or do the missions at least which give you the upgrades you would want like shield boosters, weapon upgrades, and health boost. I would imagine you would want at least maxed AR, combat mastery, and one ammo type before the final two missions

If you don't care about saving your crew members
you can always reload an older save and do more missions if you get stuck on the final mission.

Just to keep charting my progress cause it helps keep me interested in the game ha.

I just walked through the IFF mission, ammo was all over the place so it wasn't bad at all. The last battle on the reaper wasn't bad, the husks just keep coming but I was sorta corralling them on the ladders. My party would die quick but re-spawn during the breaks in the wave, I didn't bother to heal them. I realized before that mission I hadn't bought any upgrades so I had a ton of money and went around buying up everything then used all my resources upgrading. I may have to break down and actually do some mining which I haven't done at all this play through.

1 more mission, I am hoping it's all down hill now ha.

My name origin story, I started playing multiplayer FPS games way back with quake and marathon. I used to play story mode as a keyboarder. When I started playing with friends I knew I would get killed and all the trash talking to go with it. I figured, if I was iwannadie it would take away some of the thunder of them killing me because, i wanna die. Then as I got better and was doing all the killing it became funny as they were being killed by someone who wanted to die. It's just all ironic and I don't wanna die so don't worry ;) .

Has anyone had a corrupt game save with ME2?

I was playing and loaded a mission and decided I didn't want to do that mission and went to load the previous game save to put me back on my ship. During the load screen it hung and crashed my ps3. I restarted tried loading the game save, I also tried "resume" from the startup menu and "Restart mission" all with the same problem. I am pretty certain it had finished saving and I didn't interrupt it by loading the previous save, I ran around before deciding I didn't want that mission.

I used cloud to restore my game save from the day before and it worked no problem, I lost about an hour of playing so it wasn't bad at all but scared me for sure.

My saves have been fine I'm only 12 hours in though. I have been experiencing getting hung up, during the auto save feature though. I was stuck on a table and could walk around on the table, but could get off table no matter what I did and it happened during an auto save so I had to load a previous save. This has happened twice, while I haven't had to go back very far with my previous save, it's still quite frustrating.

Beat insanity tonight w00, I'm glad it's over but I actually enjoyed it more than I expected the 2nd time through. I managed to
kill my entire crew which was awesome ha

Ya, it would be interesting to do a
kill entire crew except for just enough so that your Shepherd survives
run to see what effect that has on ME3.

Did anyone have a problem getting the Paramour trophy? I played as a female Shepard, and tried to romance Thane. I got to the point where he called me "siha," and said he'd explain what that meant later. But no matter how many times I tried talking to him after that, I kept getting the "I still have to think about what we've already discussed" line, and things never progressed.

Keep doing missions and converse with him every time in between.

Is there any consequence for not staying loyal to your Mass Effect 1 love interest? I chose Liara in the interactive comic without thinking much, but I have absolutely no emotional connection to her as I didn't play the first game, unlike the characters in 2. I'm personally leaning towards Jack. But if it causes problems, guess I'll just say "hell with it" and keep Ms. BluethatIknownothingabout as the love interest.

You actually get the trophy once you travel through the Omega-4 relay. If you haven't yet reached that point in the game yet, then just talk with him after every mission.

None, unless you plan on taking that save to ME3. She mentions it in Lair of the Shadow Broker mission, but just shrugs it off like it didn't matter.

Well, I will be taking it to 3. Then again, I also chose to kill the Rachni (or whatever) Queen, which I hear was a bad choice?

There really is no bad choice, it just depends on how you want to "roleplay." Anyway, as for the Rachni Queen
if you save the Queen, then she will send an asari messenger to Illium to tell you that the Rachni will fight on your side against the Reapers in ME3.

Typically you are "locked" into a romance when at the end of the conversation "sweet music" plays. It's a specific tune, I noticed it each time when my renegade female shepherd got locked into a romance with Garrus, Thane, and Jacob (though one is always a dominant choice and will supersede the others if you enter the relay without turning the others two down).

Supposedly you will be somehow rewarded for staying faithful to your ME1 character, but since all I've read is descriptions of ME1 I too don't have much connection to Liara or Ashley (especially since Ashley died in my interactive comic) I'd much rather stick with the Aussie, raven-haired, descendant of Sarah Walker for my paragon playthrough .
