Mass Effect 2 Discussion - Fight for the Lost
I officially fucked up my game. I can't save Wrex.
I guess I do have a save 4 hours old that should do the trick.

Going through 4 hours of the game again just to save Wrex is worth it though. Man I love that big lug.

For anyone that ordered the game from EAStore could you check and see if it shows that you ordered it under the customer Service link. I have a confirmation email but when I tried to check on my order their website shows I never did.

Only reason I ask is because their website is throwing up all kinds of security warnings and its basically fucked up. Been messed up for over a week.

Also I got a 25% off coupon from them for my birthday on the 19th, go to seeif I could use it and the fucking code errors? Few days later they without me asking send me another code, try again to see if I could use it and reorder Mass Effect 2 and get a deal and thats when I figure out the website if fucked.

Fingers crossed now that I even get the game from them. I emailed their customer service but I have my doubts. Kinda funny a huge company like EA has a fucked up store that Both FF and IE thinks isn't even legit.

I thought I read that the CE comes in a tin case like the first one. Did they ever say if the disc will be in a normal case or if it will be like the last one? I ended up putting the first game in the preorder case gamestop sent me that had a dvd or cd in it for preordering.

EAStore sucks and their customer support is some of the worst I've ever seen. That said, I've been told that their pre-orders usually do not show up until they're actually shipped.

If you end up wanting to cancel from them ever, the only way to do it is via Live Chat that can be accessed through their "Email Us" option on the support page. Don't even attempt to send an actual email because they'll be about as helpful as a rock if they somehow actually do magically reply to your email.

I'm thinking about playing ME2 as a vanguard or an engineer. Right now, I'm thinking about doing another play through of ME1. Is there a list of all the ME1 events that affect ME2?

I thought there was a list a page or two back.

Since the 10th and final squad member has been confirmed beyond a shadow of any doubt (thanks to those broadcasting live streams of themselves playing ME2 early), I updated the OP with the squadmate information. I also added a spot for Zaeed, since he comes in the first free DLC.
For those that really love the Launch Trailer that was released a couple of days ago, it's now up on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace under Game Videos
It's the music...it's so EPIC! LIKE fuck!

I also keep watching the enemies video to hear Legion talk, lol.

Just about the only character I have left to do on Mass Effect is an Engineer for the last two ability Achievements I need. I'll likely wait until after I do a couple of playthroughs of Mass Effect 2 before I go back and do that. Although I know going back to the ME1 combat system after playing ME2 will probably seem like a huge step backwards.

I also have to reach level 60 and complete insane difficulty.

One question: would it be stupid to attempt insane mode with a brand new Engineer character? I'd say yes but I'm tempted to try anyway.
One question: would it be stupid to attempt insane mode with a brand new Engineer character? I'd say yes but I'm tempted to try anyway.
Incredibly stupid. The Engineer class is the worst class to attempt a "first playthrough on Insane" run. That kind of playthrough is reserved for the Soldier class and Vanguard only - if you ask me. Insanity can be a whoooole different ball game if you've never tried the harder difficulties, such as Hardcore.

There's a recap list of the major events in ME1 when you import, but we don't know which events will have impact other than DLC will for sure have no impact. Some events will affect ME3, but not ME2.

That's exactly what I figured. Haha, the crazy thing is that I know I'll get frustrated beyond belief but I'll probably try it anyway. Unless of course I decide to do a New Game+ with my Bruce Willis Vanguard, which I completely forgot about until just now. Hmm... what to do, what to do...

Insanity's only saving grace (IMO) was forcing the player out of their comfort zones by making formally obsolete or overkill mods on lower difficulty settings almost irreplaceable. I never gave damage protection or health degeneration mods a second glance until Immunity spamming made playing the game almost unbearable. If it weren't for Sledgehammer, Inferno, Polonium and Snowblind rounds respectively I would have for the first time dreaded popping the disc in. 5 - 15 minute unavoidable grunt battles do not equal fun. Thankfully once I reached 60 I could run through just about any battle I wanted making some main story Mako missions that less painful.
An actual member.
Thanks, Rei! I'm glad he will be, hopefully he'll be cool enough to keep up with Garrus.
No one is cool enough to keep up with Garrus.
Especially this Zaeed clown, he's the only character I've seen so far that I'm not concerned about being there at the end of the "suicide mission".
Him and Subject Zero anyway. Both of them look like they'll be sacrificed for the greater good in my game...
I think that I'll sacrifice Jacob and the Asari chick.

Subject Zero/Miranda I'm keeping around for love interests.

My goal is to not let anyone die. Each member of the squad is either way too badass, or serves too important a role for me to just neglect them

(it should be noted that if anyone pulls a gun on my Renegade Shepard *cough* like Wrex *cough* then their life is forfeit and I'll gladly let them die in the end)

I'd like to not let anyone die in the end, too, but I figure that at least one person will have to die,
like in the first game.
And for looking really boring, Jacob will be the one I make die.

Was finally able to select release-date delivery at Amazon. I guess I will get to play it before my 360 disc drive dies. Stupid crappy Microsoft products... I love my 360, yet hate the company. Argh...
It would be nice if you could spoiler tag some of your post for those who are planning on starting ME1, Joel.
Done, Ink. It's already been pretty talked about in the thread though so I didn't think anything was really spoileriffic about it.
I didn't state what characters could kick said bucket.
In all fairness, you really shouldn't be in a thread about a game's sequel if you haven't played the first one yet.
I was thinking that, better to rummage through the first game's thread then expect this one to stay spoiler free.

There better not be stupid achievements for this game that require specific party members for the majority of the game (75 percent) or require you to beat the game 3 times.

I actually hope there are a couple of those because they help me appreciate the game more. I probably wouldn't have loved the first game so much if it wasn't me going back all those other times for achievements and discovering more and more of the depth in the Universe.

My friend just got the achievement for level 60 after putting in 85 hours of gametime. I rather put pins in my eyes than do those horrible side missions over and over again to get some achievement point.

Then don't go after the achievement, I guess? Almost all games have at least one achievement that is too difficult for someone but other people would gladly do. And 85 hours is a bit long, I got to 60 after 63 hours of play.

I've gotten to level 60 twice since January began, and with this most recent character I just finished it only took me ~40 hours (I'm sure some of that was wasted time, too).
Achievement List for Mass Effect 2:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/mass-effect-2/achievements/
Looks like I'll need at least 2 playthroughs to get a majority of those.

And on the topic of the two discs, it'll probably be like every other multi disc game. Game split with one half on each disc and we'll have to switch when we finish the part on the first disc, but I see where it would be different with this with some planets possibly being on one disc and not the other.

No way, we would see that mentioned as a negative in the reviews if different clusters were located on different discs. It's definitely going to be a one time switch per play through. Besides I would imagine it's the ass ton of voice acting and cinematics that are what take up so much space.

Watching that IGN video review has me even more hyped to play this. Also, regarding the whole disc switch issue:

"Players will start with Disc 1 for the introduction and early level choices, then go through a funnel level of sorts, where they will need to switch to Disc 2," Houston said. "From there they will play the middle portion of the game, which is mostly on Disc 2. Then after another funnel point in the story they'll go back to Disc 1."

Talk about ridiculous.

They've taken out the worst aspect of the first game (Mako driving)
and inserted something even more mundane (Slow scanning an entire planet for resources)

brilliant............

Welp, just completed my last achievements in ME1, so they wont be nagging me when I dive into ME2 next week. Pinnacle Station was horrible; at least it was on sale.

ME2 achievements look much less time consuming overall.

Does the original still hold up? I want to play ME2, but after hearing about the self-referentiality I'm hesitant to play it without playing ME first. What should I do?
Does the original still hold up? I want to play ME2, but after hearing about the self-referentiality I'm hesitant to play it without playing ME first. What should I do?
I honestly don't see how anyone, aside from just a casual shooter fan who cares nothing about the story, could play ME2 without playing ME1. Half the fun (for me) about going into ME2 is knowing that all that time I put into ME1 is going to matter - and that it will make a difference in terms of how ME2 and ME3 will play out.

With that being said, they do have a system in place that helps newcomers learn a bit of the backstory of ME1 and choose what they think would be the route that their character would've taken. Supposedly this guides you right into ME2, after hitting the major points of ME1.

The path you take is up to you. I personally feel that I'd like the game 1000x better knowing that all the decisions I made left a lasting impression on the game's universe, rather than just picking up ME2 and being able to choose my character's personality from a list and saying "Yeah, I think I'd do this". It's really a matter of: $15 and 30+ hours vs. $60 and 0 hours, but missing out on part of the story.
