Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition looks disappointing

I preordered the CE, but I'm thinking of switching over to the standard. The robotic dog looks dumb in my opinion. Not cute or endearing at all, and almost looks like half its head was sawed off so you can see inside it. Lithographs are always worthless, a fabric patch is a throw-away, the art book is probably too small to draw my attention... I'm only interested in the extra guns and squad appearance packs, but they will eventually be available for a cheap DLC pack most likely, and then again they're not likely to add much to the game. I read somewhere you may get an extra character - any truth to that?

To the OP! HERETIC! Just joking, but I'm a huge ME fan. It's not the strongest LE of all time, but I'm stoked for the robot dog and the N7 hoodie for 'casual Shepard'. The patch is a throw away, but I'm going to mat and frame the mini-litho. The DLC is good stuff and it'll be worth it for the extra character and mission alone. I have the ME1 and ME2 LE's, so this is a must-get.

If you're truly not that interested, my advice is to keep it and either sell the entire package or just the DLC for profit. I guarantee you that you'll get upwards of $45 + for the DLC alone. Guarantee.

I always skip CE's, even for series I live like ME.

I'm just not a collector type so I just don't give a crap about figures, patches, art books etc. It's just crap I'll seldom look at to clutter up the condo.

You say that but it still surprisingly hasn't happened for ME2 yet. And that came out two years ago now!

Ditto. :)
Since the last two ME collection edition are going for crazy money. I would still pick it up.
It's possible that it will go for a good amount, but something tells me this won't fetch the crazy prices that the others used to. For one thing, the other two CEs had rather stealthy release dates... we've known about the ME3 CE since like June wheras ME2's CE was announced about two months before the game came out, and if I remember correctly ME1 wasn't much different. Not to mention we're dealing with a CE for 3 platforms now instead of just X360.

Remember, the ME2 CE was released on two platforms...PC and 360. Still doesn't stop the 360 version for going for close to $200, where the PC version gets $30-$50. You could probably make a profit off the 360 version. If you're buying it to actually play, that's another thing entirely.

Amazon currently has a $10 credit offer on the vanilla version of ME3, effectively making the price difference $30 as opposed to just $20. With that savings, you could buy the full-size Mass Effect art book, and still have $4 left over. Although if you're lucky enough to have pre-ordered at Best Buy, you could get $10 credit there on a CE...

There is supposed to be a classifed character and mission , which is why I pre-ordered it.

I think ME2 GOTY is going to happen right before ME3 launch to build up hype etc for ME3.

Kinda like "here's what you missed!"

Mass Effect 2 DID NOT have a GotY/Ultimate version come out for it. It was made a PH, but it did not come with extra content, it's just a $20 reprint. You can't count ME 2 on PS3 as while it did have the first 3 story downloads on the disk, it did not have the weapon and apparance packs on it, and you still had to pay for Arrival like everyone else.

Plus the ME CE are worth money because of their low print run. ME 2 CE are selling for $65 used/$260 new on Amazon right now. I just sold my ME 1 CE used for $165 on Amazon.

To each their own but for $20 more the extra mission/character (which will cost $7-$10 seperately given Bioware's pricing on DLC in the past), extra weapons, soundtrack, and Steelbook are worth it to me. The artbook, avatar stuff, lithograph, and patch are just extra.

I really wish it had some behind the scenes stuff like the ME 1/DA Origins CE's had, or the hour long feature like on the Skyrim CE (which I only paid $90 for.)

I can tell you for a fact that only the hardcore fans preordered this in June when announced. Like Wombat has talked about on the CAGCast, people don't think of preordering stuff until about 1-2 months before release and by then it's too late to get the good stuff.

Could be a turd in the case for all I care. I will be getting the CE cause I'm a huge Mass Effect fan (going to go beat the first two again for like the third time before the third comes out/hold off while finishing them in preperation of mass effect 3) and this is my most anticipated game this year by far. The second was the best game this generation (imho, just over Bioshock 1) so I'd be willing to pay $200 for this game if that was the retail price (which I'm sure it will cost after all the DLC ;)

I'm most interested in this for the exclusive DLC... I could care less about the lithograph and patch and I'm sure the pack-in artbook will pale in comparison to the Art of the Mass Effect Universe book. But that N7 hoodie sounds positively epic.

OP, we're more than happy to pick up one of those that you don't want, so feel free to cancel the pre-order and let someone else have it that actually wants it.

I doubt this one will either... EA is in full reigns over BioWare now and I'm guessing EA will want this CE out in full force seeing as how the last two sold out so quickly.

But given the game's following, I'm guessing the 360 version will end up being super rare...

Yeah, I get the sense that EA saw what happened with the ME2 CE and wanted the ME3 one out there in bigger numbers... after all, it's pretty clear that a lot of people are willing to pay for it, so why not let them?

What surprises me, though, is that Amazon's ME3 CE listing for the 360 went down about a week ago and has yet to come back up. I can only assume it's a sign that there *is* a finite amount of these, it just happens to be larger than the ME2 edition size. The bottom line, though, is that if you care enough to get the CE, you likely already ordered anyway.

Got the CE for 1 and 2 so I would would be crazy to quit now. Just browsed a few of the major online retailers and looks like the 360 version is gone gone gone .
Does It have one of those metal boxes?

*checks*

sigh, yeah looks like Im getting it then.
Joe if you didn't pre-order it already it's already sold out.

You're only option would be to wait until Friday the 9th and pilfer someone's unpicked up pre-order from a Gamestop.

I've gone as far as to take a "course" for the Collector's Edition (Microsoft and Sony offer retail employees incentives to take quizzes on games coming out). But I still haven't read anything official about any extra mission or character. There was a mix-up about a DLC called "From Ashes" or "From Dust" that is supposedly coming out the day the game launches. I am unsure about it's current status. A video for what definitely comes with the CE is available online. I'm interested in the robotic dog still, but am a little disappointed by what it looks like. I wish it didn't look like it's head was chopped off.

Am I the only person who just wants the N7 patch? I'm hoping to snatch it up on eBay, since everyone will be throwing theirs away.

Wow never knew the ME2 CE went for that much on 360.
ditto.
Seems you don't even need to get it if that is your only reason, since according to this unboxing video posted by Bioware the regular version is going to have reversible cover art with Female Shepard on the reverse side.

I still think the stuff in the collector's edtion seems cool, and having a metal box will be nice. Still sucks that I'll have to use Origin instead of Steam for the PC version though.

It's too bad they didn't use the real FemShep though. At least it's better than the generic blond haired, blue eyed model that was chosen by fans on Facebook.
